Well explained & demonstrated. I got a plant growing in the cracks of our Apartment wall. Planning to cut it & try your method instead of the throwing it out.
Thank you. I am glad you liked it :-) Do checkout the other video parts also, in the description. Also, see this playlist - ua-cam.com/play/PLiDU6YjzHzNdz5i1lw5RPLF8qpNVLzmHZ.html
You mentioned later planting the cuttings in sand. Do you have a special mixture or is it just plain washed sand? The name of the game is to have fun and you seem to have achieved that. Great videos Vinny.
Thanks and yes I am having lot of fun doing this :-) Since, I collected my sand from a dried up stream, its already washed. I just filter it with a sieve and discard the fine sand. My tools are listed on the blog, in case you are interested.
Hello Sir, I have been watching all your videos and I really loved them. I have been trying to make a Bonsai tree for the last 4-5 months but, no success. I tried to grow roots from cuttings of Ficus Religiosa in water 3 times but, no luck. In the first attempt, I kept long leaves and around 20 cm long stems in tap water. I was seeing the white buds(lenticels) on the cuttings after a couple of days and kept them in the shady area. However, leaves started to die and stem cuttings started to get dry from the top. In the second attempt, I changed the water every 2-3 days. I was seeings lenticels but, no luck. In the third attempt, I changed the water every 2-3 days, put some cuttings in water and soil then and I kept all the cuttings in plastic bags to maintain the moisture. Again, the same thing happened. I was doing this during rainy seasons so I don't think the weather could be an issue. I would really appreciate your guidance on it. Thanks.
Hi Prafulla, sorry to hear about the lack of success. When i made my video with cuttings rooting in water, i thought surely everyone can do this but i was wrong bcos many faced the same problem that you faced
You seem to have done everything correctly. So i dont know what went wrong. have you seen this video ? - ua-cam.com/video/lqsXW6mwZNs/v-deo.html I assure you there is no magic or secret here, from my side :-) All the magic is in the ficus cuttings only. i just changed the water frequently, kept them in a shaded but lit area, maintained high humidity by spraying water, reduced leaves/leaf size to decrease water loss.
I no longer recommend regular cuttings for starting bonsai or obtaining a plant specimen. The best way for that is : 1) collect the plant/tree from location or 2) take air layered cuttings - ua-cam.com/play/PLiDU6YjzHzNdz5i1lw5RPLF8qpNVLzmHZ.html 3) buy plants from nursery Seeds & cuttings are the least favoured way to get started.
Thank for the tip, Jaya. I will give it a try at peak season of pests. I periodically spray neem oil mixed with water on my plants along with manual inspection and physical cleaning of the plants. Pest control is the worst part of bonsai.
I collect moss during rainy season, like this - ua-cam.com/video/00VgqBJloE0/v-deo.html Some i use immediately. The rest are dried fully in the sun, in a tray / newspaper. Then i just store the dry moss in a plastic packet, for future use, like during the next summer. To revive the moss, i soak it in water for few minutes and then keep it in sunlight for a week, in a tray / closed box, with some water, like this - ua-cam.com/video/ti3vF1pOz04/v-deo.html
This is some type of root system. These roots spread a lot and can damage a constructed wall because they need less nutrition. It is not good to allow a peepal sapling grow in gaps of construction. It grows by automatic germination. It is good to destroy the unwanted growth.
If your plant roots are in water, wait for a month. Moving to solid medium can be done after 1-1.5 months but avoid ground soil initially. Use filtered cocopeat or crushed moss, filtered sand or crushed bricks.
I will post a pic on my blog. not much content for a video yet. it did well for a while with a new container. then leaves fell during summer and is currently alive but leafless. I need to help it sprout new leaves but have been neglecting this hobby the last few months.
Regarding your query for water rooting, I have replied to your comment on my other video. i am assuming you are asking whether kaffir lime can be grown on a rock like this - I think so. Wrapping roots around rocks can be done for almost any plant/tree. Ficus roots love water but for other species, soil / sand might be a better option for making roots wrap around rock. Initially, you would need to tie the roots on the rock and bury it in soil and over a few months, reduce the height of soil, exposing the rock and root. hope that helps.
Good video and love the Tabla music.
Thanks
very interesting .
Great video Vinny !
Thank you

I will try again.
Hi Vinnie, try burning goodnight fast cards to ward off areal pests. It is just a suggestion that you do it at night.

I am now trying to root a few peepul sprigs, keeping my fingers crossed.you are my inspiration, thanks a ton.

You can grate the dry moss into a powder & use it like this - ua-cam.com/video/a1mJCbiGcfk/v-deo.html
Hey! Instead of the rock can i transfer it into the soil?? Will that affect the growth somehow!
Hi Alvira Ahmed, you can move it to soil also. Soil should give you better growth too.
This is some type of root system. These roots spread a lot and can damage a constructed wall because they need less nutrition.

Today is my 7thday of my experiment,,Sir agar roots aye to soil me kab lagate hai or kaise lagate hai?plz reply

Hey Vinny! Any update on this tree? Looks awesome!

Did you keep it inside and then move it outside? If so that might have scorched the leaves? That's unfortunate though... At least its still alive!
+Juan Puerto My apartment's kitchen balcony is kind of like a glasshouse and thats where i had kept it throughout.
Bro ye develop kese hota h
Hi.. I have a challenge.. can you root a carrot using carrot tops and grow carrots... and also, can you grow pineapple using its crown????
Helen, very sorry. i live in an apartment and my interest stops at bonsai :-) I am sure you can get help from many other channels for that.
can we do with kaffir lime ?
