I guess it's kind of morbid, but i have a taxidermy duck that has been passed down in the family for nearly a century...why everyone kept a duck i have no idea, but as a child, i always wanted a pet and was never aloud to actually get one, so i spent hours petting this stuffed and mounted duck...Now that i'm an adult with my own home, i couldn't bring myself to throw it out. It just seemed disrespectful to throw him out like garbage, so to this day i have a hundred year old duck on my wall, and i always say good-morning and goodnight, to my beloved quacky.
Of all the negative comments that i have read, how many of you eat meat. Think about it when you eat steak, chicken, bacon, hambugers and so on. Not to mention leather products that you wear.
Taxidermy can be so taboo. It's a beautiful artform and extremely hard to make it look right. I don't like taxidermy where the meat aren't used or it's just for show, but for hunters who do so to feed their family, and use every part possible there is a bit of respect for the animal from the hunter I am okay with. Hope this man keeps working, he seems like a lovely and is extremely talented at his artform.
Temple of the Animal Souls A lot of the time, people have fun hunting. And yes, people hunt for food. Because, when you're hungry you just have meat in the fridge, you dint have to wait months for what, 6 beans to grow? That's not going to feed a family.
kanatapaw But the thing is, it's not my grandma. Animals aren't people. I mean if you would have said "what if it was your dog." It would have been different. But people actually do stuff dead dogs out of memory. And is it any better to burn someone to ashes and keep the literal ashes of someone on your mantel? Is that not weird?
Massive resurgence in taxidermy as more and more folks are into macabre and the arts with new generations. No longer just a memory of a hunt but more and more of an artist rendering of excepted expression.
idk. i’m against killing animals/hurting animals but i’m into collecting the dead parts of them. i feel that it gives the animal a certain sense of respect.
matanuska high no most people who act like this aren’t vegan which makes me as a vegetarian very angry since people like me get blamed for such behavior
Smh...people do realize that every part of the animal is used right? Even then if the animal was endangered I.e big game the money used to hunt them funds animal reserves and is why they even exist and continue to every day.
I feel like if the animal passed naturally and was not killed purely for that purpose. It might be ok. Like if you want your pet tonne mounted so you can remember them.
Not many people hunt just for the mount, with the hunt comes memories, food, and one hell of a story. Now sure, some hunt solely for that purpose, but to say that the masses of us hunters are doing it just for a head on our wall, is just plain wrong. I respect all animals that I've harvested, and appreciate the meals, and stories that each hunt brings me.
Honestly if you find the animal already dead there’s no harm. If you hunted it to feed your family that’s fine. (I don’t eat meat, but I respect those who hunt rather than eat from a factory where they are abused). It’s scientific. It’s when people trophy hunt for fun and waste the body that it becomes an issue.
Taxidermy certainly is a dying art , through the centuries it was a sign of wealth to have these animals mounted and displayed in your home . Museums also used taxidermy to store examples of different species of newly discovered animals for later reference to study . But sadly now it is fast becoming a thing of the past as finding new generations to train in the art is very difficult as there are so many other more interesting careers that are more available to access , it really is a great shame to see taxidermy slowly disapear.
Kylie Wilson I want to become a taxidermist, I found a deer ribcage while on a jog and tomorrow I might pick it up and see if I can figure out how to clean it.
I know this comment is 2 years old but may I add that I want to become an taxidermy artist, but I was always told this would be an disgusting thing to do and you can't do that for a living. Like, everyone I know is against taxidermy, and it is really hard to always get the comments like "Ewww you're so weird". I hope I'll be able to move into a country where taxidermy is not as uncommon as in the one I am currently living in.
I used to hang out at al local taxidermist shop in upstate NY, his name was Bruce Madlin. He did work from all over the world. Instead of mounting a real person, why not try to take an impression of their face in a mold? That would work.
I failed to mention the thanksgiving turkey. This thanksgiving when you are carving that turkey up think about where it came from. I myself was a Taxidermist for 20 yrs.
Its really not gross for me.. For me its like satisfying to see how many people makes animal know that they are still alive and then can still live even tho they know that they are in a different place.
I used to think that taxidermy was discusding but now I realise this man is trying to show off how beautiful animals are. and their not looked up in some cage as long as the animal was killed for a valid reason eg survival. I think it's OK but off it is killed for just taxidermy that is not ok
I walked past his shop one day but there were too many eyes in there that felt like they were staring at me I couldn't go in, not sure who in that area buys that stuff also
Yep, because not being endangered makes a big difference to the animal who was orphaned or painfully killed and bled out. Then taken apart like an old sofa by a psycho. #LOGICFAIL
Temple of the Animal Souls You do realise that it's illegal to make the animal suffer before you kill it? Your not allowed to use poison or small guns and you and you must always go for a kill shot.
Temple of the Animal Souls He doesn't necessarily have to do the slaughtering for 'fun'. Once all the meat is taken out, which can be used, why not mount the rest? Plus, animals kill each other for survival, a human can kill an animal for the meat. It's not necessarily "oh hey let me massacre these animals for no reason"
It's fine as long as the animals aren't endangered. Also, it's good because they don't waste the parts of the animal. And if you think this is horrible, the animals are hunted for food. And the fur is bought to him.
Yep. I’m getting a duck mounted for 350$ because it’s my first duck and it’s a beauty. It allows me to maintain the memories I got on that amazing hunting trip. I love ducks and it was a beauty!
Why people go and watch something they can't stand or hate is beyond me. Why even watch the video if you can't stand what's in it, and then have the nerve to belittle the video and the person in it. I guess it's the "self-important" syndrome. Feel like what you believe is so important that you have to watch a video that you hate, just so you can tell people how much you hate it. But we hunters and trappers are the morons. People want to fuss about eating meat and how it's bad and that you shouldn't eat it, just vegetables and other plants. And how vegetables are so much safer than meat. Well, unless you grew those vegetables, you don't have a clue where they came from, how they were grown, what chemicals were used, or anything else. This argument is about as hilarious as the "organic" meat and vegetable bs. Again, you have no idea what or where that food is coming from or how it was processed other than what is on the label or what fell out of the mouth of someone you have never met but yet you trust everything they say as long as the organic sticker is on it. Hate to break it to ya vegetarians, but plants LOVE meat and blood and everything else that is a part of meat or flesh. But, back to the organic argument. As a hunter and trapper, I know exactly where my meat has been, what it ate, how healthy it was, when and where it was processed, how it was processed, what was used, and how/when it was packaged because I do it myself. That's the only way you'll ever come close to anything organic is if you grow it or kill it yourself. Your lying to yourself if you are paying the ridiculous price for supposed organic anything. Now as far as hunters and trappers being blood thirsty lunatics, just killing stuff to kill it, is so far from the truth it's unbelievable. We have more respect for the animals we hunt or trap than any nature nazi or anti ever would. The extent we go through just to be certain the animal is comfortable in the trap would be mind blowing to most. Just that facet of trapping. Hunting is no different. Taxidermist are the same way. They aren't just killing stuff to hang on a wall. Again, it's showing a sign of respect for the animal. Getting a deer, elk, moose, or even a coyote, fox, or bobcat mounted is merely like taking a picture with family at Christmas. You'll have that memory of the hunt or trapping day with your dad or loved one, for the rest of your life and everytime you look at that animal you will mentally re-create that memory with your family. But in today's society that's wrong. Spending time with your dad/kid/family as part of a tradition that will create memories of a lifetime. but that's wrong. Taking those memories and creating a mount that a hunter or trapper can have as a token of that memory, and at the same time feed your family with the money that you charge to mount the animal for the hunter or trapper. But that's wrong. Taking pride in something that you do, or anything that you do for that matter, isn't wrong. feeding your family isn't wrong. Spending time with your family isn't wrong. Creating some of the best memories of your life with someone you love isn't wrong. Nobody today looks at the big picture when they are criticizing what someone else does. Why? Who knows. I take pride in being able to put food in my freezer without any other resources except for knowledge and determination. Not money and a supermarket. The fur I trap keeps someone somewhere warm, the meat goes in my freezer and sometimes donated to hunters for the hungry to feed people who aren't fortunate enough to buy enough food, and I get a little money in return for the fur that goes somewhere to keep someone warm. That's wrong though right? I guess if I was dependent on other people, then I would be in the right.
2:56 I just found a dead mole well riding my bike and i want it to become a taxidermy but uh the reason why bc I like how a mole looks and how it feels I found it dead so yah.
All the people who are hating on then for killing a deer shut up because if there are to many of they they will eat all the resources and leave none for the other animals I know it’s sad but it needs to happen
Taxidermists make these mounts after the animal has been harvested of all meat. Getting a mount is way better than just throwing the deer head away. Means more to the hunter
Most people that are against this don’t understand the truth and value it holds for the hunter. Hunting and fishing is the best way to harvest food for your family because the animal was raised wild. If you think hunting is in humane, just look into the factory farms and how livestock is raised. Hunting is way more humane on getting food for your family then just buying from the store. Also the mount means something to the hunter, it brings them back to that special moment when God blesses them with a beautiful buck.
I see nothing wrong with Taxidermy although I choose to use my animal hides to make clothing and I think it's a better use of the animal and shows more respect of the animal. But Taxidermy is an art form and it is a dying art form and when the art form dies it's sad to see
Seems like a sweet, hardworking, honest guy, but behind the times. Taxidermy has been elevated to an amazing level with modern technology and many truly talented artists. Check out some of the vids on the world championship taxidermy. Stunning, gorgeous art honouring the animals.
That's crazy to think that there is only 1 left in NY city. I live in Western NY and there is probably 10 within a hr drive. Well I guess I'm going to move closer to the city when I get back into taxidermy. I had a lady call about getting her dog stuffed, wouldn't u know it the lady showed up the next day with the dog still alive and put down a 600$ deposit, then a few weeks later I'm stuffing a dog
TheDodicat I'm pretty confident of my sanity, however the day quacky starts talking back, i will consider getting help.
NymphetaminexXxGrrrl that's so weird and cute ! 😛
Lol
I have a .577-450 Martini Henry that has been passed down in my family since the Boer War.
Awwww that's a cute story to me LOL
i really want to hear more about the people who wanted their relatives to be taxidermied
Haha I was watching a video about that earlier smh
Of all the negative comments that i have read, how many of you eat meat. Think about it when you eat steak, chicken, bacon, hambugers and so on. Not to mention leather products that you wear.
bw2950 We eat animals to generate energy, taxidermists do it for the pleasure of hanging them on walls
bw2950 well not me sooo
there are tons of plants you can eat to gain energy and protein, no need to eat meat
bw2950 exactly!
I haven't eaten meat in decades. Plants have everything you need to live.
John did a great job refurbishing an old owl taxidermy that I brought in. It was mounted on rotting wood and needed to be cleaned and remounted.
At least the dude has pride and is compassionate of his work.
Taxidermy is a dying art, Unfortunately. I'm lucky enough to know the art, being taught by my cousin
that’s awesome! be proud! thank you for helping keep this amazing form of art alive :))
Not sure if you’ll see this 5 years later but I’m very interested and would love to hear more on where you started and how. Cheers 🍻
He's the last one in NYC, not NYS.

LOL Hunters feed their families with dead animals they had fun killing? Ever heard of planting a garden and buying beans, peas and rice? DUHHHH
Temple of the Animal Souls A lot of the time, people have fun hunting. And yes, people hunt for food. Because, when you're hungry you just have meat in the fridge, you dint have to wait months for what, 6 beans to grow? That's not going to feed a family.
DinoCookieCat I agree
its not beautiful.
its mocking the dead.
want your dead grandma mounted in your home?
didn't think so.
kanatapaw But the thing is, it's not my grandma. Animals aren't people. I mean if you would have said "what if it was your dog." It would have been different. I sense triggered vegans....
matanuska high no.
idk. i’m against killing animals/hurting animals but i’m into collecting the dead parts of them. i feel that it gives the animal a certain sense of respect.
Carrionbone but he actually kills them
Rachel Madhwan No? He can hunt an animal and stuff it himself but most of the time it’s dead animals given to him to be stuffed
matanuska high no most people who act like this aren’t vegan which makes me as a vegetarian very angry since people like me get blamed for such behavior
38k for a combined value of collection? Tbh I think that’s wrong. I’ve seen bears go for 20k alone and it looks like he has world class bears.
Yeah his collection is worth way more
I think his just being human a good one
Smh...people do realize that every part of the animal is used right? Even then if the animal was endangered I.e big game the money used to hunt them funds animal reserves and is why they even exist and continue to every day.
I feel like if the animal passed naturally and was not killed purely for that purpose. It might be ok. Like if you want your pet tonne mounted so you can remember them.
Caonabban I just don't think you should kill an animal just for the fun
isabel p
hunting is usually done to provide food for a family.
I own a pet boa and as morbid as it sounds when he passes away I think I’d like his skin made into something beautiful
Not many people hunt just for the mount, with the hunt comes memories, food, and one hell of a story. Now sure, some hunt solely for that purpose, but to say that the masses of us hunters are doing it just for a head on our wall, is just plain wrong. This man does amazing work! Great job!
He has a young soul vibe
Temple of the Animal Souls he doesn't kill them he gets the animals when there dead.
He doesn't kill them
The movie Taxidermia got me into this shit
one of the best movies I've ever seen.
fuck yeah bro
wow he charges 450 for a deer head that look's like that and that lion wow he really need's to buy good ref pictures
Umm ok sure
The man is a artist, bet all the people with negative comments would love to have his gift 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇹🇻

I could see taxidermy having a comeback with the "look how eccentric and retro I am" hipster types
wish he had an online store tbh

Its really not gross for me.. For me its like satisfying to see how many people makes animal know that they are still alive and then can still live even tho they know that they are in a different place.
I see nothing wrong with this if they sent the meat to the butcher and then did this none of the animal is wasted
And hunting an animal from the wild is far more humane than factory farmed animals who are kept in captivity and tortured until they are killed
Only 400 dollars that’s awesome mine was 3 grand were I live
Soo cool I want one
I used to think that taxidermy was discusding but now I realise

Melanie Mills I only eat tuna safe dolphin.....
Melanie Mills hunting makes them endangered
There is most definitely, 100%, more than one taxidermist in New York. They clearly did no research for the subject.
He's the last one in NYC.
sadly its true.
I may be weird, but iv always wondered which is the oldest stuffed animal in a museum. Could there be one from like 300 years ago?
Ralph Venter there are some really old ones on display in the natural history museum in nyc.
Live around corner from his place just went in recently for first time super knowledgeable guy very friendly
Imma do this when I get older
Temple of the Animal Souls , well if you put it that way geez 😂

Candy Colored Clowns hunting wild animals with proper equipment
Yeah this is great! We should also start doing this with people so that they don`t go to waste.
We do to some extent. We just bury them after.
We already do. lol
I want a taxidermy wolf or coyote so badly
It's fine as long as the animals aren't endangered. Also, it's good because they don't waste the parts of the animal. And if you think this is horrible, the animals are hunted for food. And the fur is bought to him.

If a person spends the $ to have something mounted it's a sign of reverence for the animal.

The last taxidermy in NY, up next! The new human taxidermy of the actual taxidermist to experience the same luxury experience of being taxidermized!
This is awesome, I can't believe there's so few?
There are probably more of them in other parts of the country
In cities it is alot less common than in rural areas and even some suburbs
Sunnys and crappys......thats when John said "enough is enough"!!!
Sir you are a true artist. In decades from now our children will see these beautiful animals as they were. 🇬🇧
At first I thought, "what the heck? That guy looks like John Malkovich."
2:56 I just found a dead mole well riding my bike and i want it to become a taxidermy but uh the reason why bc I like how a mole looks and how it feels I found it dead so yah.
that taxidermy shark is pretty cool, i dont care for taxidermy the animals creep me out but that shark
Well there is like a million taxidermists in Maine, got a fox going in one and a bear in the other
I am super happy that he is the *last* and pretty old too.. can we mount him on wall after hes dead too?
No because thats illegal. And that would not be right
taxidermy is an art, wishing someone death is not.
He's not the last one in new york, he's the last taxidermist in NYC there's plently of us out in the upstate
All the people who are hating on then for killing a deer shut up because if there are to many of they they will eat all the resources and leave none for the other animals I know it’s sad but it needs to happen
if I was in that room I would be dead in seconds BC I have a fear of animal skin gulp....
Tbh I would totally buy that lion lol
I know it’s weird and kind of disgusting in a way but you have to admit how realistic it looks
A duck cost 400 dollars where I live also
I like this, I want a deer head. But I have a ram head
God I love taxidermy!
Taxidermists make these mounts after the animal has been harvested of all meat. Getting a mount is way better than just throwing the deer head away. Means more to the hunter
I’ll Join Him My Dream Is To Be An Taxidermist And Live In New York
Pursue your dream mate
He reminds me of lonesome george
i would totally buy all the fur 😍😍😍 I'm addicted to furrr
+Farah A.T Uh, that's what he said?
Expensive...much more money than a fursuit...damn
I drove by this place once
There’s a cocktail taxidermy unmmmmm

I wish I could learn from him
He’s not the last taxidermist in New York

Taxidermy is used in science museums so it isn't all that bad
This is so cool
I can smell the store from here
mrzazzaable it just smells like leather 😂??
Its just hides and leather man
There’s still a few left in NY but not much young stuff.
Cruelty at its peak
It doesn't surprise me with NY gun laws
I got a guy that does taxidermy. I go threw him mounting the heads. People try and get me to go to other ones. I look at them and say nnnnnnooooooooo
I see nothing wrong with Taxidermy although I choose to use my animal hides to make clothing and I think it's a better use of the animal and shows more respect of the animal. But Taxidermy is an art form and it is a dying art form and when the art form dies it's sad to see
at least hunters take the meat out first, and just use the skins as trophies. i dont like it but at least the meat isnt wasted
If it wasn't illegal he would do it
hi greetings to all my good taxidermy friends I'm a supply from Africa
could you please give me chance to work there because I don't want you to be last.
this is beautiful omfg

Didn't they make James Brown a Statue?....I'm pretty Sure they did
I understand animals that are common for hunting like dear rabbit cause your eating most of it but a lion thats a little messed up

In the city. Probably, but not in the state
I just found a new hobby
This is...........interesting 😳
There's one taxidermist in new york three 30 in my city
I eat meat me love meat! I want to buy something from you
