HydraForce is safe, it may be 700lbs of pressure, but since water doesn't compress, it won't decompress like a bullet if something lets loose. You might get wet but you won't loose an eye! Just make sure you bleed all the air out of the system! I run my pipes naked and fall ALOT in the rocks. I've just now straightened my pipe for first time in 90hrs. it was all beat to shit and looked terrible, I blew it out and can hardly tell the difference. At first I was using the tool every week but have since turned up the "give a shit factor" I use it more for my buddies pipes than mine anymore.....and at a 12 pack a pipe I can save my beer money for cocaine and hookers! Just kidding about the cocaine part.
I use the Hyde exhaust engine combo like the one you showed. The good thing about the guard is that it slides over everything unlike the aluminum guards that tend to get hung up on rocks…you will still dent your pipe through that guard but the damage is usually minimal.

Carbon fiber and other aluminum pipe guards suck unless protecting the exhaust neck from bending and protecting the exhaust at the cylinder. A good cage guard or combo guard will protect so you never need to fix dented pipes again. My pipe is protected for years now and I never need to fix dents or buy pipes. Check ptech, emperor, carapacks, motoes, muzzle,force or custom cage huards and feel confident in any extreme hard enduro riding. You don’t feel the weight either as it’s so low on the bike. Put screen in front to block mud and debris from collecting too.
You missed out on exhaust cages, They are a common site in South Africa. Normally made out of stainless steel bars. They are sand alone units that attach to your frame and over your skid plate

I feel like I can provide some good feedback here. I've ran a carbon gaurd with a flange protector and still broken the flange. I bought a Hydra Force, which I still own and ran naked. It works great, but not on the new 'corrugated' pipes on some newer bikes and not on SRT pipes with their shitty pinch welds. It's still a pain in the ass to take your pipe off nearly every ride to blow it out. Recently put a Carapaks full aluminum pipe skid plate combo on and am loving it. I don't even think about the pipe any longer. The Hydra Force is just a beer money maker now.
Good feedback! Since I have’t run one of the newer bikes with the corrugated pipes, I would have never thought about how much harder they would be to fix. What about heat/air in those? Have any luck there on them?
@@SeatTime I have a guy here in S. Utah who used to blow out my pipes with heat and air before we got the Hydra Force and he said it was the same deal. He said he tried to blow one out and ruined it as well. Not sure if he has had any luck with the SRT pipes.
@@SeatTime I believe they are around $600. I may be wrong, but that's what I've heard. At that price point, I can't imagine them selling many of them when you can get an FMF Fatty or Gnarly for $200-$250 or an SRT from $160-$180. The thought did cross my mind though.
I just bought the hydro force and used it yesterday. It got out my dings but it also warped my chamber so it didn't sit on correctly, and was impossible to fit back on.
I am of the naked pipe gang. That way when I replace my destroyed pipe every 80-100 hours my bike feels brand new even though it is most definitely not

I wonder if using a pipe guard would cause a change in frequency inside the chamber. say a plastic vs carbon fiber, and how that would affect your power gain in certain RPM's.
I think it would to some degree, but not enough for us mere mortals to notice. Maybe a top tier professional who is extremely in tune with their machine could notice.
@@SeatTime I fix pipes on the side. The force has to go somewhere when you hit it. It cannot just disappear when you put a guard on. Hence aftermarket flange parts to keep it from shearing off on bottom hits.

@@SeatTime not so much in Canada but you really gotta smack the bottom to shear it off more when Endurocross was going on. For how easy it is to make a crushed pipe new and not having a bent neck making the pipe loud I'd rather not run a gaurd. They do work and keep the scratches away but if you get a big hit its downtime on not having a pipe or way worse power robbed from neck bends and getting it fixed. Plus new cost of pipes over $350cdn. If you can get one. You can get full metal skidplate gaurd but that's adding 15lbs to your bike without the mud.
I’ll be honest, the science of the harmonics / vibrations is above my knowledge base. If I were to try think through it though, for us mere mortals, we’d never notice that potential power loss. The majority of the power creation comes from the shape, so keeping the shape of the pipe should matter over vibrations. Again, not stating a fact, just thinking through it out loud. Hell of a great question!!!
The plastic armadillo guards are total crap. We ran through two of them quick. So unless you want to replace it after every hit, they are not a practical solution.
Fire is the only way for me,, 57yrs old, B level, no guard for this old slug, just flame every couple of months and a little message and she looks good as new,, got almost a year on the stock pipe and don't want to crack my Sherco exhaust flange, and no aftermarket reinforcement ring avail yet.
I'm going to get the Hydraforce tool for sure. I need to get over my fears and start doing it myself. The fire way though, DANG! I'll screw that up something fierce. Who should we reach out to about flange guards for Sherco's?!?!?
Does a pipe guard keep the pipe hotter than not having a pipe guard? Sure. And that could be another reason most professional riders choose to not run one. But for us mere mortals, protecting the bike will benefit us more in the long run.

Not to protect the bike, but to put something between my skin and the exhaust if the bike ever lands on me.

You’ll have to blow out the dents and curve, which we have a video on, or take it to the shop for them to do it. If it’s bad enough, new pipe time.
