  • Introducing the latest addition to my fleet - a Citroen Dyane 6, sister car to the 2CV. But in camouflage form. Not my idea.
I guide you through the key differences to the Deux Chevaux, and tell you about the adventures I had driving it home - 20 years after it was last taxed.
Misfires, dead coils, greenlaning, Bradford-upon-Avon, Wales and glorious Warminster all feature.

I remember when watched this video 3 years ago when my dad had just got a 1972 Citroen dyane. I came back to this now because a car crashed in to the front fender from the side at 60mph at an intersection today. The Dyane is completely in bits but by some miracle my dad only fractured his calfbone. My dad just got out of the hospital and he is completely alright. So thank you Dyane for saving my dads life! And by the way it took my dad around the world to places like Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia etc. and my dad only paid 750€ for it. It is a truly amazing car! Greetings from Finland!

My dad owned two Dyanes, and unfortunately they both met a similar fate, one at the hands of a Triumph Herald, and one to some kind of sports car, unknown because the driver never stopped.

I have just found an old ami 8 here in Chile, Original pale yellow.
The owner wants 170 pounds for it, not a rust spot on it!
that is another good classic car to buy :)

I love the Camo paint it suits it really well! Post apocalypse Dolly! 16 years ago My Dad gave me the family Dyane as my first car, one night on the way home from work there was torrential rain fall, the wipers were barely fast enough to clear the screen...5 minutes down the road it started bucking like a kangaroo, hesitating then surging forward. It did this for the next 7 miles rocking back and fourth, it just about held 30-40mph with my foot flat to the floor. It turns out my dad had relocated the condenser/points gubbins box to the very front of the engine bay and water had got in between the top of the grill and bonnet and soaked it with water. Yet somehow despite it's underwater electrics it refused to konk out and got me home.

I once chanced an e-mail to Alex Moulton to thank him for his wonderful hydrolastic suspension. I owned an Austin America 1300 quite a long time ago (I'm in Canada) , and I was always impressed with the suspension. He did reply, thanking me for the kind words, and offered me some newer ideas about repairs to the system if I knew of anyone who still had a vehicle so equipped.
    Seemed like a nice fellow.

My French Aunt had one of these, new, when I was a teenager, I'v never been so scared in my life at the way it leant over going around narrow French country lanes! Later, she sold it to my Uncle, who put studded tyres on it and went hunting in the Jura mountains with it, shooting Wild Boar. Amazing thing, it just kept on going for years and years!

Very happy to find this for a happy trip down memory lane! I had 3 Dyanes, beautiful cars. (Or tents on wheels, as my ruder friends described them). They were turquoise, cream, and cote d'azure. I went all the way from Glasgow to Yugoslavia in one of them, and on another trip from Glasgow to Benidorm. I got 90 mph with the wind behind me on the A74. On another trip up to Orkney with 4 passengers my companions had to get out so that Dyane could make it up the mountain. On another occasion I got several double wardrobes from MFI in the car courtesy of the opening roof. Fun times indeed. My last one languished on my drive with a tree growing out of it till happily someone came along who was keen to restore it. Thank you for this video 😀

I remember I was nine years old and my dad was driving a VW 1600 Variant on the autobahn between Salzburg and Vienna, Austria, it must have been 1968 or 69. We were driving for quite a long time behind a Dyane. I thought it was a beautiful car and stared at it for a long time. Little did I know it was really a modernized 2CV which I thought was quite ugly at the time but also grew to love as I got older. I also remember the Citroen Ami which I thought was the absolute ugliest car in the world. I would kill for one now.

been in one of these. surprisingly perky if a little daunting when thrown round corners on what feels like 2 wheels. Blasted down the motorway at an indicated 70+ mph at what sounded like near maximum RPM and didn't miss a beat; in fact it showed up a car who decided to overtake a truck in front of us and didn't put its foot down far enough. After several hourrs in it, tyre squeal and all, my ears were ringing, but it was a joyous day. I took videos and occasionally watch them to relive the 2 cylinder sound. I never uploaded, but I guess with permission from the owner I could (was bout 6 years ago now).

I recall my dad turning up with a brand new Diane on a W plate, in pale green... I was mortified! Didn't even seem like a real car at the time. I was only about 10, and someway ignorant to its delights..... I wish I could go back to those halcyon days,.... And reclaim some of my dad's cars. They would be truly Hub Nut.... Diane, Renault 4, Fiat 132, Austin Ambassador, Metro City..... Oh the list goes on!! Then there was my buggered metro 1.3 HL, Citroen ax 11 tre, followed by a racy ax gti..... Then cars became too anonymous and dull.... Around 1998! Aw the best to you!

This was the best most enjoyable car I owned. I bought it for peanuts and did 100,000 mostly trouble free miles in it. The flat twin engine is so smooth and the flywheel large and heavy , it was lovely to drive. It was a bit noisy though. It definately had a lot more go than the 2CV - On the motorway one time with a tail wind it kept on building up speed all the way to 90 mph. this caused the rockers to bounce and cut through the rocker covers resulting in some oil loss. Replace the rocker covers and I was back in business. What an amazing car!!!

So, as usual, I have some questions because I'm an American and I know so little about these French wonders. So was the Dyane meant to replace the 2CV or was it to be sold alongside it with no intentions of replacing it?? Are the late model Dyane's the most valuable?? 1983's? And why is it called the Dyane 6? Where does the Ami come into the Citroen lineup??? Sorry so many questions but I'm trying to learn. I like the Dyane better than the 2CV because it has a nicer dashboard and more panels. The hatchback is a necessity too. Hating the Cameo paint job but the car has history so i appreciate that fact.

+unknown772 I change cars a lot. The Dyane as just been sold as it happens. My 2CV is my forever car. Sadly, I have to sell others because I keep running out of space. And money.

+unknown772 I find it impossible to decide. I've never owned an Ami, but I really like them. 2CVs have a very pure spirit though, and Dyanes too. In other words, all of them.
