In my opinion Roberto Duran is the greatest fighter of all time, because of the above information in the description. Duran probably would have reigned has the Welterweight champion for years, but, his biggest enemy was himself, he liked to party a little too much. Heck, even way past his prime at 38 years old he faced a beast of a middleweight in Iran Barkley and beat him! When Duran was motivated he could not be beat. I followed his career my whole life, Duran would fight anybody and would move up in weight to do it. Duran is one of my heroes for sure. God bless Roberto Duran!
@Roll Tide I did not say he was victimized. I did not say he did not have a weakness, everyone has a weakness, I did not ignore his bad fights. I stated true facts that are provable. Back in 1976 I was an amateur boxer working out at he old Erie's boxing Center on West 7th street ( no longer there). We had a boxer Lou Bizzarro who was undefeated and managed to snag a fight with Duran here in our town Erie Pa.. Duran came to town about 10 days before the fight and he trained at the center with us guys.We were rank amateurs with some small skills but we were anxious to see him workout with us which he did. He was the worlds undisputed light weight champion and we got to see him train every day. The guy was solid steel and was the fastest skip rope and,and speed bag guy I have ever seen. He brought all his sparring partners with him and they were all heavy weights. He destroyed those guys even though they were wearing helmets. He hit so hard they would crumple, and I never doubted that they felt each and every punch. One day at training his manager asked us if we wanted to spar with him for 3 rounds. There were 3-4 of us and it took less than 1 second before we said NO. We all valued our lives too much to get in with him. He went on to knock out Lou in round 14, and Lou only lasted until the 14th round because he was on his bicycle the whole fight. Bizzaro was undefeated at the time but he wasn't really any good and had been set up with a number of easy fights to puff up his record. When Duran finally caught him in the 14th round it was over quick, and Bizzaro never knew what hit him. Duran was a killer back then and he punished anyone that he came in contact with.
