  • I've had this video on my mind for quite a while, but it took a long time to get my thoughts in order. Hopefully it can help inspire someone to get into Tales.
Celebrate your (and others) progress and victories, no matter how small. A failed attempt is a learning experience that slowly progresses you further. It's easy to get stuck on failures, so try not to lose sight of the progress you're making along the way.
Focusing on your own unique style, rather than trying to emulate others, will also go a long ways.
Huge thanks to anyone who leaves positive comments on videos. I can say it's helped me a ton personally, and I'm sure it's helped others as well.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
Everything you said is true! Your mindset matters a lot going into something like this especially when you first get into running a Tales game.
My first every run was a Ludger solo of Tales of Xillia 2, and while working on it I tried to enforce rules that I saw Jakkun, a runner I look up too using.
While no power charge 2 and 3 is super impressive and really fun to try and do, as a first run I think it made things more frustrating than it had to be. Also I just, wasn't playing as well as others I had seen and it bothered me a lot at the time.
At the end of the day, make rules that you think are fun.
Me personally I enjoy striving for No Damage Taken the entire time I'm running a game! But I know not everyone finds that enjoyable to play themselves. Starting small is a great way to work your way up to where you wanna be.
Everyone plays and enjoys different things, there's no shame in it!

I don't think it's discussed much how much a healthy mindset can affect your general mood when making challenge content. Your process is almost 1 to 1 with mine actually, haha (Though I do stray sometimes and set myself to OHK oops). I think it's important to play it out so you can understand the match up, then start making proper attempts. Appreciate some more positivity regarding the community (We can be doomers sometimes) :P

Great video! I agree with pretty much everything said here, especially since I also suffered from a bit of imposter syndrome in the past. I started as an absolutely terrible player (you can go back and watch my older stuff, it was ROUGH), but my standards started to get higher as my videos got more attention. I always felt bad for not being as skilled as some of the other players who were already around yet I was getting more attention than some of them. I eventually learned to just have fun playing Tales in my own style rather than fussing over everything being perfect and as a result my gameplay and my enjoyment of making videos also improved.
It's fine to learn from others or be inspired by them, but comparing and beating yourself up for not being as good is a quick way to ruin your mentality. And of course, there's nothing wrong with gameplay being imperfect since everyone has to start somewhere. We all make mistakes and learn from them, that's how improvement is done :)

Well said. I've never seen your older stuff, but it was similar for me. As soon as I started to embrace my own style, things became more enjoyable for me and the gameplay got better too.
Glad you started enjoying things and stuck with it! Your content has been one of the things that motivate me to do my own.
