1) power comes from left leg. left, right, hit 2) pull with right and push with left. Contact point out infront. Let go off left hand. Push boths and in the target direction all the way up
I began learning tennis late and that "pushing off with your left foot for power" technique is probably the single most important tip I've had for backhand power. Thank you
Wow awesome lesson! Winston was hitting high level backhands at the end there! If you could do a lesson on the forehand and how you should use the lower body to generate power, that would be awesome👍
Crazy improvement with small corrections! There are so many pros with an outstanding backhand, like Andy Murray, Zverev or Nadal. In the past we had Marat Safin, Kafelnikov and Björn Borg. Borg was actually always finishing the backhand with one hand, like in the exercise! He really understood how to hit the ball in front of the body.
what the heck? that backhand improved SO MUCH! but I wanna see it on future matches...that will be a good test. but from what I've seen so far the upgrade was huge! you are an outstanding coach imo, wish there were more like you.
I so appreciate your coaching approach. Your focus on a stable base, weight transfer and contact point let the other "checkpoints" of the swing (e.g., racket drop, pulling with right hand, turning/flipping hands) occur naturally. IMO there are way too many videos trying to teach the swing by focusing on these moves which you can't really consciously perform in the correct way. I have learned a ton and simplified my swing by watching these videos!
Awesome lesson man! You've done an amazing job together It's those intricate details that sometimes help us make it click, like putting the weight on the right leg right at the last second etc. Good work boys!
Wow I can’t believe how much Winston’s backhand quality improved. Karue, what can be taken from this lesson for one handed backhands? I assume the left leg and hip still apply?
Most of it to be honestly. Specially the lower body action. If you can really master the weight transfer, your quality on the one handed will go up dramatically
Hey man, I just wanted to send you greetings and say thank you very much. Because of you, I started to hit two habded backhand like I never before. I am so satisfied, I struggled for awhile and now feel much better. You free pdf for common mistakes also helped me alot. You are my favorite coach, keep it up.
Finally got a win over a guy who consistently beat me from exploiting my backhand. I watched this video last night before playing him today and tried to really focus on that footwork and contact point and was able to really hold strong on the backhand. I even hit a couple winners with it! Still obviously needs some work but the confidence helped a ton. I'm so hyped right now, thank you Karue!
This video literally saved my backhand and turned it into a huge asset. Just the simple one, two, three, was what I needed to hear and use during matches, Falou!
Excellent video. There's a lot of mediocre tennis coaching on UA-cam but this video is outstanding. If you hit a 2 handed backhand remember this video and work on the key points.
@Karue-Sell fantastic lesson for two handed backhand. So important for us club players, since this are very typical mistakes we are doing on this stroke. Can you please do a similar lesson for the backhand slice?
Karue, when you first started explaining your follow through, I thought you were going to teach him the Wilander backhand. Mats had one of the sweetest two-handed backhands on tour.
Well done coach and student. I've been following Winston for a long while now and noticed significant improvement after he worked with Karue. Only thing left now is fixing his serve to add more power.
Taking this video to the courts!! I need my backhand serviced ASAP!! Thanks Coach!! So I have the split step from last video, merge that with this backhand video!!
Hi @Karue. Love your content and your vibe 👍 I try to switch from a one handed backhand (lefty) to a 2 handed one. I'd just like a precision on the "in front of the hip" contact point. I know 2HBH contact point should be less deep (into the court) the the 1HBH. Could you tell how "far" in front you should make contact with the ball ? (as your front foot, 1 foot ahead ?...) Would much appreciate a hint on the point.
I knew his backhand looked better for a reason! The game changer for leveling up my backhand was the loosening up on the ATP flip and of course the kinetic chain on the legs. But mostly it’s the anticipating and actually getting to the ball that has had the most impact.
I took a screen recording at 2:50 - for my teenage daughter since she’s got an attention span of a common house fly (2sec at best) and sent her the clip. “Where do you think power comes from”? She goes like “ aaaahhh now I get it” lmao! 😂 Great content thanks for the upload! Edit: Also at 4:14 the “left - right - hit” is very familiar, def a great way to get into the Rhythm for the BH
Wow, I had a hard time believing it when you first mentioned the role of the dominant hand in the two-hander. But I went and tried this and right away I could see a big improvement in the consistency and feel of my backhand. I’ll have to keep working on this, but it’s already been super insightful. Thanks again Karue for some of the best tennis content on UA-cam!
@@daveobrien2365 I had always heard it emphasized the other way-that the dominant hand is there to guide, and the left (for right-handers) should do the most work. Like a forehand in reverse.
Hi Karue, in a video 2 years ago you mentioned the backhand being like a lefty forehand and it should feel like pushing with the left arm, not pulling with the right. Here you are teaching the opposite and that the right arm should be dominant. Is that based on new insights? Just curious. Excellent content, I am struggling with backhand consistency and often hit them long because of a slighty open racket face. I will try the same drills you use here, thanks again!
My Boxing Pivoting turning fundamentals I have learned mixed with you're content hopefully makes me have a better backhand at least today when i try this it's Friday, Pizza, Tennis the Parke what more should I want God Bless...
Excellent video Karue! Could you do something in the future that explains how to hit the backhand on clay courts. This is because the ball bounce there much higher and it is difficult for me to hit with topspin. Saludos from Argentina!!
1. Emphasis on back leg power for a strong backhand stroke. 2. Importance of engaging the front side for proper ball contact. 3. Sequencing arms and hands to avoid chicken wing motion. 4. Focus on hitting in front of the hip for better control. 5. Improving footwork to get into position for quality shots. 6. Using a deep backhand to set up forehand winners. 7. Practice to make backhand technique second nature.
hey karue, thanks for alle the helpful videos and your tips. I am playing with a one handed backhand and i would love to hear your take about it. Do you feel a difference in the shot when you play against a one hander? Has it less or more spin? When is it the most dangerous and what is your approach playing against one handers compared to two handers? There is just very few good content about the one hander and i always trust you with your tennis insights because you actually play pro! maybe you could even make a video for the one hander? even that you are not playing with one, it would still be better than most of them out there! thanks and keep it up!
The backhand became super crispy So much to take in here.. I am curious to know if you are suppose to use the left hand more when you are going for down the line shots? Thank you for the great content as always!
Great lesson Karue! Do you feel like the 2HBH is an inherently "better" shot for the game today than the one-hander? Random question but I've gotten into this debate many times, and would be interested in what you think. Also - awesome Borg backhand halfway through.
No I don’t. I think both have its pros and cons. The one thing I’d say is that at the highest level today double handed provides some advantages (mostly for returning) but aside from that it is how the person utilizes the shot!
Hey Coach K. Why not have the racquet go below knee again? Wouldn’t you get more topspin then? I tend to do that but sometimes it feels funny. Consistent though. Thanms
Just subscribed. Looks like the direction is coming more from the left leg placement rather than the left hand? Wondering what role the left hand plays if any since it was hardly mentioned. Regardless Winston's backhand improved a lot.
I like how not only you are a fantastic coach, but you can actually backup your teachings with your high skill level of tennis
1) power comes from left leg. left, right, hit
2) pull with right and push with left. Contact point out infront. Let go off left hand. Push boths and in the target direction all the way up
