As a Team Leader, I have been accessing Power-BI for months. The filtering and sorting of the information is quite impressive. Most of the charts that my company uses are not flashy by any means, but they are clean and easy to read. I am quite impressed with the application.
My company has been implementing PowerBI for 2 years and we’re yet to have something usable. The problem with letting people create their own reports is they have to know and understand the data, otherwise they make bad decisions based on bad reports.
This is a metrics utility. It isn't really Business Intelligence. For actual BI, you would need an actual business logic or business application integration utility whereby a business analyst can create scenario's based on business rules to be applied to an actual metric, business function and process. BI via MS is just an advert ploy.

Part of my job, unfortunately, is data science. I don't see this used much compared to products like Tableau. I have always preferred to look at data in a programming language. Then again my data sets are millions of lines, so you have to integrate with data lakes. I'll use Tableau when I have to, but my goto is Python coupled with Pandas and MatPlotLib. That way I can use machine learning and large language model AI concepts. I think I'm slowly realising that I've been way too reliant on Excel over the years for everything rather than just using it for what it should be used for -- spreadsheets and really quick ad-hoc calculation. It isn't really efficient for large scale models or transforming data regularly. If I had actually sat down and learned 1) Python and 2) Power BI I would probably have upped my career development, salary...and job satisfaction tbh....rather than just scrapping stuff together in Excel all the time. Better late than never though, so thank you for giving me the push!

Very much looking forward to the P-BI Course ... but I need to fit it into my 'Deep Work' schedule so I can focus on the material. But unfortunately at this moment, 'DW' is a crowded space. I have NO doubt the course will be worth it and will be the same quality as Prof. Leila's other work, which is to say, I expect it will be excellent. 😍😍😍😍
I believe that powerbi is leading because A) it is more readily available to all employees under the office 365 and free version versions, and B) it is better documented and supported on multiple platforms than any other. Ie it even has a learning app with man in a box videos for power bi.
Could you make a similar power bi video for academics? Specifically for professors who coordinate programs and have 100 students who major in a topic. That would be very helpful. The goal would be student retention and Fast Track graduation. Whenever a student fails a course they are set back to not graduate on a schedule. Classes are not offered every semester, so the delay for graduation may increase. Basically what I'm looking for is a personal interaction with hundred plus students hoping the power bi may help me. For example, social support, celebration messages, birthday greetings, highlights of achievements, such as presentation at conferences or other activity students do. Additionally, personal stories, testimonials, and alike (from students). Tnx!
"If you can use Excel, you can use Power BI" - this is not entirely true. I've been using Excel since the 90s and know my way around it pretty well. However, with Power BI, you need to learn the "language" of it. I'm not talking coding, but just understanding the terminology used is a hurdle that many people (myself included) struggle with. Even doing something simple like connecting a SharePoint list as a data source can be much more complicated than it should be.
I agree Chad. What I meant was that it's "as easy as learning Excel". You'll need to understand the logic behind it - but just like Excel it as an easy side and an advanced side.
Amazing amazing video sharing as always dear friend Leila.. All your videos are truly amazing.. Thanks for sharing this with us giving another a big Big like thumbs up 👍👍👍 See you again take care 😊 God bless 🙏🙏🕊️ Keep intouch 👍❤️
You can use Tableau public for free! PowerBi is $9 per user per month (100 users $900 per month!) or a enterprise 365 E for $$$$$ and more tech complications

Can Power BI help me monitor food inventory with expiry dates? Inventory is difficult to monitor properly when I have duplicate items with different expiry dates.
Being Manager Bidding & Cost Control, have stored tones of Data which with passage of Time is getting outdated as well difficult to retrieve. Now can switch to BI.
If you already have some PowerQueries in Excel, can you connect to them/import them from PowerBI or do you have to re-create them in PowerBI from scratch?
No recreation needed. You can import them with one click into Power BI. All you Queries, connections, model etc will come over. Just go to File / Import.
Hi leila. Is all very nice, but there are NO too many tutorials that teach us how to link Excel to Power BI. most of thew companies use Exel for all the data capture . My company as well . I've tried linking Excel to Power BI with automatic updates of the POwer Bi repoerts once data is changed in Excel, and No MVP is actually addressing this issues. In my opinioin this is the 'missing link". A proper synchronization tutorial that will make it easy for most of the companies. Are you not in agreement with me?.. Thanks Lelila. Cheers Martin

My data is in my accounting systems. I say systems because we have 45 stores, each a separate LLC with separate accounting systems. I pull these reports from the individual stores and compile the information, and start pulling it all together. Will Power BI link to my accounting systems to pull real time data without me having to pull and compile reports? I have seen an add on I can buy called Scotts that links right into my QB. I just have not plulled the trigger yet.
Good day, what the use of this tutorial when it's only required in the workplace environment? l did try this couple of months back but PBI can't be used with a personal Microsoft account. Personal Microsoft accounts are not supported for this application unless explicitly invited by your organization. It requires you to sign out and sign back in with an organization/ workplace account.
if they told you that going through the process of opening a ticket and then going back and forth with the IT department to create a report in 3 months time was SELF SERVICE you should have not swallow it ! this way of working is the reason why self service is first and foremost wanted by IT departments : because it allows the IT departments to focus their efforts on digitizing the company while the users can serve themselves with whatever they need in terms of reports ALSO VERRY IMPORTANT ! the ONE SOURCE OF TRUTH is not the POWER BI Repository ! It's THE DATA WAREHOUSE !

I have no choice but to use Power BI at work, but I have not grown to love it. It still feels like I'm using a version of Excel that has had a major stroke. Maybe this is because I haven't mastered it, or maybe it's because it"s not the best software for my use case, or, perhaps some of both.

Hi Leila, I have Power BI Pro at work, and when I publish to our Corporate SharePoint site or Teams Channel, only my colleague with Power BI pro can view the Report/Dashboard. Is there some trick I'm missing?
The company I work for is implementing power BI…makes me feel that I may not be needed in a few months. Realizing this, I signed into a Data analytics and visualization bootcamp for 24 weeks and by the time it’s done I’ll have an option of lies ahead.
@Leila Gharani i hope there is installment option over 3 month in future + coupon that would be superb ☺️ Or different pricing to people in 3rd world countires or hyperinflationary Like Egypt USD to EGP Changed in one over 23% Devaluation ... just a side to attract another customer that you already have over platforms like Udemy .. Hi Leila, thank you for yet again a great video! We experienced a snag with Power BI recently, namely only users with Pro subscription can see the created presentation. Is there a way to share the interactive report (interactive as using buttons to filter different way) on a webpage or Teams group (or really any way other then export a "flat" file)? Thank you for you great tips :)
Leila is very clear and easy to follow but like all oher bloggers she doesnt say where the exported files go to. I have searched and searched without success to find them. Maybe its a secret that only Microsoft know the answer to.
I need to have a row and column comparator. For example if I want to measure accounts that a producer is overseeing, while looking at the profit center he is tied to over a span of time. In tableau it was really easy to set that up--can that also be done in Power BI? If so, how?

Hello mam in Excel ( if condition in that logical value contain text i want return true value as a color cell )ex : when I am putting a text in a cell i need a color in another cell, is this possible kindly reply mam
Tableau is slightly better than Power BI, but far more expensive. The enterprise version is $70 per month per person. Power BI is $10 per month per person.
I love data analytics... I love your videos... But $250 is quite high... Especially for some African countries with high exchange rate... But I'd love to start it fully
How do you get around the cost of hosting the Power BI reports so others in the company can access the reports created by anyone without them having to use Power BI desktop? Using powerbi is nice, but unless you can share dashboards created by someone to everyone in the company, they start to fall flat. Getting management to use the tool can also be an uphill battle. If there was a simple, inexpensive way to host reports in read only on SharePoint so everyone could use them, it would be worth it. As it is, you have to pay for way too much to get analysis you can do in excel and share more widely under a current cost structure.
With the removal from 365, one of the best options is to share via Teams or even directly add via Teams since the Dyamics/SharePoint integration of Teams/BI still is functional to launch there, plus you can create a group or channel that allows you to control access to said group along with visibility to given your data set/dashboards with easy permissions management simply by adding/removing users rather than deep settings on SharePoint.
I would recommend taking at least an Excel Essentials course before you tackle Power BI. This is the course we offer to get confident in Excel: www.xelplus.com/course/learn-excel-essentials/
Does the course provide how to use pro licence stuffs : like publishing dashboard, implementation of RLS, scheduled refresh in the project? Or its just theory part?
it's a bit misleading, people choose power bi over looker and tableau because it's way cheaper but trust me if looker or tableau pricing in the same range as power bi they would be market leaders not power bi.

If I had actually sat down and learned 1) Python and 2) Power BI I would probably have upped my career development, salary...and job satisfaction tbh....rather than just scrapping stuff together in Excel all the time. Better late than never though, so thank you for giving me the push!
Did you learn it in those 9 months?
@@kqi32 haha yes, I managed to get a job that was way beyond my skillset so it forced me to learn them very quickly! I am still learning new things of course.
"Leila Gharani: Thank you so much for being 'Super Intelligent, A Powerful Educator, and a Wonderful person who knows how to deliver KNOWLEDGE." It appears that I am way behind on finding you, yet I am most proud to say you are the reason for me being more confident and readying to take off into this new world of change: 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 "
That was the best explanation of PBI so far. Thank you!👍
PowerBI visualisations have some huge shortcomings, but it’s strengths are evident. It needs a little more support and QOL improvements
I can relate. Focus time is rare these days. Hope to see you on the inside at some point though 😊
I was literally searching for this yesterday!
Big Brother is watching you.=)

Congratulations for 2million subscribers!!!!.
Finally I've got to understand what is Power BI!
Thanks!
Happy to help, Mauro!
I really enjoy all your videos and will try to register to start my journey in Power BI. Thank you
Wow.. Leila, This is something I never head before the way you present... awesome.. thank you
You're so welcome!
Amazing amazing video sharing as always dear friend Leila..
All your videos are truly amazing..
Thanks for sharing this with us giving another a big Big like thumbs up 👍👍👍
See you again take care 😊
God bless 🙏🙏🕊️
Keep intouch 👍❤️
Most excellent video and channel - added this to my subscription
Great summary of the huge value of PowerBI! ☺️
Amazing as usually, BUT, could be cheaper to be honest. There are plenty other courses out there with an amazing content, but more affordable.
Looking forward to learning more Power BI! Thanks Leila!
My pleasure!
Thank you dear Leila, the great motivator for great technology !
Can you do a video that compares PowerBI vs. Tableau? Pros and cons of each. Would love to know your detail thoughts on how these 2 compare.
You can use Tableau public for free! PowerBi is $9 per user per month (100 users $900 per month!) or a enterprise 365 E for $$$$$ and more tech complications
Congratulations on getting over 2 million subscribers!
I keep seeing videis on data analitics. Aka processibg data ALREADY existing. But very few on how to GATHER data, safely, organize it, verify tge corectness of data entered. I think we shoukd address the foundation of data analitics as well.
Thank you for sharing this information. I've been using PBI for a few years now but still not fluent. I may just look into this course.
Can Power BI help me monitor food inventory with expiry dates? Inventory is difficult to monitor properly when I have duplicate items with different expiry dates.
Well Explained, I should need to use this tool.
Congratulations Leila for 2M Subs
Being Manager Bidding & Cost Control, have stored tones of Data which with passage of Time is getting outdated as well difficult to retrieve. Now can switch to BI.
A good thing to have in power bi would be for users to view a shared published report without having pro access
Pretty cool! I'm thinking about getting a certification in Power BI as I look to transition from finance to a more analytical role. Thanks!
Go for it! Rooting for you.
@@LeilaGharani . Thank you!
What's the music on the beginning of video?
If you already have some PowerQueries in Excel, can you connect to them/import them from PowerBI or do you have to re-create them in PowerBI from scratch?
No recreation needed. You can import them with one click into Power BI. All you Queries, connections, model etc will come over. Just go to File / Import.
Power BI is good for non-technical users. Tableau is better for serious developers.
Can you display how much the course is before clicking on buy?
Will it be available on Udemy? Thank you for all your efforts and keeping up the good work!
Available only on XelPlus.
Absolutely gorgeous Leila 💗 🙏 thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
What is the name of the ambient music that plays at the very beginning?
If only you had released this last week, FTX would still be around 😂
Damn, too soon
🤣🤣
Someone explain please
@@Rawyu -- FTX was a crypto coin currency exchange to buy/sell/house investors funds. Tens of billions of dollar possible losses, possible financial crime, founder filed bankruptcy after $16B personak loss, etc as the story continues to unfold. They had an unknown "disappearance" of $8B and therefore the joke was if they had a good financial reporting dashboard accounting for all funds with financial reporting it could have been avoided or brought to light before it got to a complete collapse, they literally had/have very little records retention or transparency allowing them to commit what almost certainly will be treated as a criminal liability case if not straight up fraud👍
@@j.ballsdeep420 Thank you J
I love your videos. I've been learning so much, thank you
I'm so glad, Lori!
Phenomenal interactive explanation that I was looking for days!
Should I learn Microsoft Excel first or jump to power bi?
Great stuff as always. Thanks Leila!
Thank you so much for the good work, we really appreciate it.
Kindly create for us Introduction to python"lessons as well.
Leila, I would have loved to join your course! Will wait due to budget constraints. You will see me soon signing in for this course.
You don't need to pay to learn a free service holy crap pull up some documentation and start reading its free...
Great video!!!
Thanks Leila. Will xplore.
Good day, what the use of this tutorial when it's only required in the workplace environment? l did try this couple of months back but PBI can't be used with a personal Microsoft account. Personal Microsoft accounts are not supported for
this application unless explicitly invited
by your organization. It requires you to sign out and sign back in with an organization/ workplace account.
if they told you that going through the process of opening a ticket and then going back and forth with the IT department to create a report in 3 months time was SELF SERVICE you should have not swallow it !
this way of working is the reason why self service is first and foremost wanted by IT departments : because it allows the IT departments to focus their efforts on digitizing the company while the users can serve themselves with whatever they need in terms of reports
ALSO VERRY IMPORTANT ! the ONE SOURCE OF TRUTH is not the POWER BI Repository ! It's THE DATA WAREHOUSE !
I am using the Forecast ETS formula to get my forecast for next 5 years. But as soon as the sales are coming in i need to include those latest sales and improve my forecast for the future months. Is there a simple way with the help of vba or macro to do that , as my client is not very supportive of going back and changing the formula in each cell? Aprreciate your help
I have no choice but to use Power BI at work, but I have not grown to love it.
It still feels like I'm using a version of Excel that has had a major stroke. Maybe this is because I haven't mastered it, or maybe it's because it"s not the best software for my use case, or, perhaps some of both.
What's your use case?
If Excel was a cat, Power BI would be the tiger! I was thinking excatly like you a year ago. Trust me, you will change your mind if you keep learning what you can do with that tool.
a killer video = love it by value | this video is good to go for an Oscar 🙂 in various disciplines
Hi Leila,
I have Power BI Pro at work, and when I publish to our Corporate SharePoint site or Teams Channel, only my colleague with Power BI pro can view the Report/Dashboard.
Is there some trick I'm missing?
Hey!!! Do You offer live online classes. Not just a course for me to go buy. I mean do you offer live online training sessions.???
The company I work for is implementing power BI…makes me feel that I may not be needed in a few months. Realizing this, I signed into a Data analytics and visualization bootcamp for 24 weeks and by the time it’s done I’ll have an option of lies ahead.
@Leila Gharani i hope there is installment option over 3 month in future + coupon that would be superb ☺️
Or different pricing to people in 3rd world countires or hyperinflationary Like Egypt USD to EGP Changed in one over 23% Devaluation ... just a side to attract another customer that you already have over platforms like Udemy .. Thanks
Hi Leila,
great overview does it integrate to the SAP platform?
Yes. With Power Query you can.
@@LeilaGharani Thanks for the reply will certainly look into it. best rgds
If so, how?
well.... signed up for the free course but there is no way to access it. Lesson content locked. must sign up. there is no link to sign up other than where I already signed up. So sad.
Hi-The Data While calculating in excel the total sum of transport cost is INR. 37212613 however, when i load the same data to power BI the total sum of transport cost is coming INR. 37214100 Power BI sum difference amount is INR. 1487. Why i am seeing the different amount when the data is same. Could you please explain what the reason could be.
She's so brave!
Can someone confirm if all the users in D365 would need to have a Power BI embedded license in order to view the Power BI Embedded reports/dashboards configured or is the license just needed for the admins who create and share the reports?
@Leila, I’m looking for project portfolio management using Powe bi application. Please make some tutorial or video on it to monitor multiple projects monitoring at same time.
Leila, I have a question about transposing data. How can I contact you?
will this be in udemy too?
Hello mam in Excel ( if condition in that logical value contain text i want return true value as a color cell )ex : when I am putting a text in a cell i need a color in another cell, is this possible kindly reply mam
Power BI vs Tableau vs Qlik - what are your thoughts about these tools in comparison?
Best options given your question of if the given users don't have Enterprise Office**
Hey Leila, I've found a need for Dashboards in my office. I'm not very good at Excel is this something I should know before going into Power BI?
I would recommend taking at least an Excel Essentials course before you tackle Power BI. This is the course we offer to get confident in Excel: www.xelplus.com/course/learn-excel-essentials/
How to incert new row in power query
Does the course provide how to use pro licence stuffs : like publishing dashboard, implementation of RLS, scheduled refresh in the project? Or its just theory part?
How long is the course you have?
it's a bit misleading, people choose power bi over looker and tableau because it's way cheaper but trust me if looker or tableau pricing in the same range as power bi they would be market leaders not power bi.
It looks great, is it possible to have this course on udemy platform?
thanks so much
it is indeed the need of an hour
It really is!

Excel table does not expand automatically if locked. When some columns are open and other columns are locked to feed the data, the table does not expand and the pivot table also does not update. I haven't found the answer to this yet after searching on google. Is there any solution for this??
