- This year marks 20 years since the Iraq war and the capture of dictator Saddam Hussein.
Once Saddam was caught, he was kept prisoner in his palace with 12 US soldiers guarding him.
He proved to be great company and the soldiers developed a strong friendship with him, playing chess, exercising, and talking about their lives.
One soldier, Specialist Adam Rogerson, has spoken to the Sky News Daily podcast about his personal experience of guarding the former Iraqi leader.

One of my Iraqi friends once told me, “Under Saddam, we had free education, decent healthcare, money, development, stable security. He challenged the imperialists in the West. And now? If I could go back in time, I'd fix my clueless brain, pick up a gun, and fight for Saddam instead of the opposition. Look at Iraq now, what did we achieve, zero, nothing”.
The local political opposition to S. Hussein was a tiny minority.
His biggest opposition was a foreign force, the Pentagon invaders, who later installed a Shia puppet regime!
Your friend was totally right. The westerns destroyed Iraq in order to get its Oil and natural resources
I was reading a report made by US soldiers that guarded him durning his custody . Some said they “cried “ after his death and missed him dearly
Doesn't change the fact that saddam tried to systematically murder and eradicate the Kurdish people.. he still murdered many innocents
Some of the positives under Saddam Hussein:
Education was free from kindergarten to PHD.
He Lowered the percentage of illiteracy to 0%
Monthly free food program, basic food a person needs to survive ( beans, rice, sugar etc)
Iraqis used to pay only $1.5 for electricity bill avery 3 months (water the same).
Iraqs used to fill gas for only around $.35
He also helped many Arab countries with their economy.
No matter how bad and evil he was Iraq was much safer and secure then that it is now
So, he wasn't that "evil" after all!
He was a great leader 💯
Rumor has it that they showed Saddam the South Park movie and he acuslly found it funny and wasn't offended by it.
That's an isralie solider mate
I'm glad the guys got to know Saddam on another level but I also feel he was trying to gain sympathy.
What's the matter with these modern leaders of state? They should already know not to be taken alive.
Someone gonna pay a big price for killing innocent man, unlike for real killer's
Why Almost all the so call "evil dictators" are non Europeans? God bless your soul Saddam 🙏
Yes, Putin is the exception. He happens to be a nationalist leader as well, challenging US interests, but too powerful for the US to tackle using military force.
South Park mocks him 😂 a relationship with lucifer
😂😂😂😂😂
Very interesting
Saddam vs Bush who is more evil
Bush and daddy bush
@@silky567 agreed. The old man got executed for war crimes .so its the son next
Terrorists Bush I & II killed more people in Iraq than S. Hussein could ever have done, even if he were to be 1000 years in power.
S. Hussein was ruthless only against those who wanted to remove him from power, or challenged his authority in armed rebellion, like the Kurds, otherwise his policy was to improve the living conditions of common Iraqis.
Bush. Saddam would never destroy his own buildings.
He is not without fault, but I always thought he ran a tight ship. Is Iraq better today 🤷🏻♂️, I’d say it’s worse.
Evil
Sure, US sow!😂😂😂
God bless your soul Saddam
The problem was he picked and chose who of the poor he helped, and made their life hell cos of the jealousy etc it created within their community! A sick way of torturing a family by showing them affection! A very nice guy huh
If he didn't care for the living conditions of ordinary Iraqis, Iraq couldn't have been the most advanced Middle-Eastern country, Israel and Turkey excluded.
He wasn't selective at all. Brainwashed and ignorant US herd can think otherwise.
i mean, that's the whole definition of privilege. it happens everywhere else in the world
