I motivi per cui Zaytsev non sia stato convocato in maglia azzurra per i vnl 2023, non sono mai stati resi noti ufficialmente. Sicuramente avrà pestato i piedi a qualche potere forte. Zaytsev, per sua stessa ammissione, è una persona che si è sempre spesa e battuta per la difesa dei diritti degli atleti anche fuori dal campo. Questo gli fa molto onore, ma credo che abbia dovuto pagare un prezzo. Ivan comunque è, e resta, un' icona del volley tuttora.
