The Patriots have become the Jets biggest rival over the past 25 years but when I was a Jets fan as a kid during the 1980s and early 1990s, the Jets biggest rivalry was with the Dolphins.
@@michaelprunty3104 and during that same period Bills fans like me considered the Dolphins as the biggest rivalry. It's kinda funny as the Pats and Colts were so bad they were everyone's punching bag until the Colts got Manning and went to the south and Parcelle revitalized the Pats. Damn Patriots became the bane of every AFCE team! I'm glad the Pats suck again as it's brought the hate on between Buffalo and Miami like the old days! SQUISH DA FISH! 😜
This season was whem Miami's defense was starting to heal itself. It made even greater strides the following year to set up their early nineties run. Unfortunately the best team they had was probably in 93, then Marino tore his achilles.
In my opinion, Marino is a little overrated. I do think he was a great QB, but he is often put into the same category as Montana, Brady, and Favre. Not only has he never won a Super Bowl but his playoff record is subpar. I would put him in a tier of QBs below the before mentioned top tier of greats. Still worthy of a Hall of Famer,, but more like Dan Fouts, Terry Bradshaw, and Steve Young type careers.
This rivalry had some great games in the 1980s.
My favorite game between the two teams is the Sept. 1986 game at Giants Stadium, 51-45 OT classic won by the Jets.
November 24th 1986, Week 13 Monday Night Football was the best in the 80s. I watch it on UA-cam in the morning before work. It gets my energy going...
Yeah you knew each team was good for at least 4 touchdowns each in an era when defense and ball control was trending.
The good old days what a great Era of football man do I miss it
For a good while there the Jets/Dolphins rivalry was one of the best to watch in the NFL.

If you were a gambler back in the 80s, you knew to bet “over” on those Dolphins-Jets games
This is the game Kenny O’ lost all respect.

I was there...one of my first fins road games
Freeman McNeil was an excellent running back.
