    It is always good to back to basics when drawing. Sometimes as an artist, drawing daily, or at least constantly, I will skip all the construction lines that you have shown here, and just do a basic construction of the outer shape, and start adding the elements of the face. What can happen doing that, is that our eyes can deceive us, and we may get the proportions off. So yeah, going back with plumb lines, and basic construction lines really helps to train the eye into noticing where everything goes. Great video! ❤❤

    Slew, what I have noticed when I draw the portrait and use plumb lines is instead of starting with the outer portion of the head, I instead start from the inside out. I ALWAYS start with the nose bc it's dead center and when one starts from the middle outward, it's damn near impossible to get proportions or distancing wrong. In fact, I find it rather fail proof. Starting with the nose insures I always know where to place the eyes no matter the angle of the head. All other measurements from the eyes, mouth etc are easy as phuck to pin point with plumb lines. Personally, it's like tik-tac--toe I always conquer from the inside out................sometimes from the corner, depends on my opponent. But never in drawing ALWAYS INSIDE OUT! FAIL PROOF and efficient Brother!

    Hey, SLEW. Fellow professional artist here. I’ve enjoyed watching you grow over the years. I really don’t think you should be posting content about how to draw, though. I don’t think you’re quite at the level of mastery required to be sharing any useful secrets. Keep it up, though, man!

    • @OhHaiMe
      @OhHaiMe 10 місяців тому +4

      You are 100% wrong my friend. While yes, Slew's portrait skills are not "master" level, it is infinitely valuable to me as a learning artist to see a realistic view of the learning process. Especially getting to see how an already skilled artist learns new skills. If the only thing you ever get to see are master works you can never gauge your own level accurately.

    • @gw7911

      @@astrorobinson3716not really. It’s because she looks so different in so many of her photos. She was immeadiately recognizable in the thumbnail but was slightly off. I think it’s because of her makeup style just changes so drastically and so quickly. She doesn’t have much of a signature look unlike most celebrities and because of that she just looks very different everything we see her in. Zendaya doesn’t look like zendaya if that makes sense. It’s not impossible to draw zendaya but is hard to find a decent reference for her.
