1 like = 1 treat for Chip & Chewy 🐶 wish me luck on Step 3 everyone & make sure to leave me questions in the comments to answer for next week’s Q&A! Love you all ❤
I'm so glad you liked ICU so much you wanted more! You have the right personality for ICU! It's challenging, and after you do it long enough you kind of get bored...that's why I added being a ER nurse; ICU holds in the ER at Valley hospital in Las Vegas turned into me learning how to be a ER nurse then I started swinging back and forth. Maybe you will like doing that with anesthesia...a little bit of the OR, swing over to the ICU and pick up a ICU intestivist shift, go back to the OR and do a couple cases then recycle and repeat. A lot of Anesthesiologists are also ICU intestivists! Keep at it Dr. Shaun! We need more docs like you!
Your experience in ICU encourages me that doctors really care. Needing healthcare is hard and even scary. May the test go well. And your pups are the cutest!
Good luck Shaun... I've been watching you and I really like Sundays lol I agree with you having a dog they love you and know when your having a hard days . 🎄🎄🎆
Shaun, best of luck on STEP 3!!!! Man you will do well, I have to say as long as i've watched your videos you are so positve, uplifting and such a great spirit!!!!! I worked in hospital registration for over 25 yrs and I can honestly say I wish I had worked around more GREAT doctors and nurses like you. So best of luck on Step 3!!!!! Love ya buddy!!!!
Thank you for making these videos Shaun, you’re a huge inspiration and a reminder of why I want to pursue medicine. I’m hoping to start college next year at University of Central Florida🤞
You will do great on Step 3!! Sending positive vibes your way. Always luv seeing you and D together wish you were going to stay together after the year but I see a lifetime friendship and bond already there. Life balance is so important. As always another great vlog 😊
For AMA question next week: Could you pencil in a request to have a video for a later day (no rush) on how you deal with the emotional stress and recovery from seeing patients pass away ? A lot of med students and even some residents do not have this kind of experiences and often get shell shocked from it. It’s a serious question, and may need a block of time to talk through it. If this can’t make to your AMA list for next week, that’s fine, please just pencil it in for a later time. Thanks a lot. 😊😊
Have you ever encountered a malignant hyperthermia event? Manifested during my fourth surgery. Three other members of my family tested positive. Good thing I survived. Good luck on your Step 3.
Good luck on Step 3. Get some extra dog love from your cute puppies. Treat yourself after the test is over. And, did I see nacho cheese fries with Guacamole? And Celsius is like rocket fuel, but I guess you need it to get through a busy 12 hour ICU day and then come home and study on top of that for a couple more hours.
Great video man, I enjoyed it! That food looks delicious at 12:25! You’re gonna be a great anesthesiologist, I’m donating to the anesthesiologist Foundation, again on new years, I really enjoy donating to the anesthesiologist Foundation, since it was hard for me to go to college because of my cerebral palsy!
Good luck for step 3! Sending good luck from Australia !! I was in hospital with pneumonia for 2 days Monday to Wednesday last week and I have Hypermobility EDS and IVs are hard after 4 attempts the top er dr/supervisor came in and got one in but it was too small for the cta scan I needed. So he used my jugular vein in my neck! Funny enough it hurt about. 2/10 compared to the others. But the laying head down legs up and flat when I had chest pain and I couldn’t cough my o 2 went to 89/90% so I was kept in for that reason. The ct showed no clot but double pneumonia and trace fluid around my heart. I’m still coughing a lot a week later so ba k to my Dr on Monday for me.
Hi Shaun: did I hear you right that you signed up for elective ICU? That’s a good sign 😂😅. 10 out of 10!! Great to see your spirit is high and optimistic 🎉🎉 For the math: $1942 / 150 hours ~= $13/hr, atrocious indeed. Even $1940 / 80 hours = $24.25/hr. UC has resident union and pays are better. But Across the board, pays to residents are so inadequate and unjust. 😮😢. There is a union win at Univ. of Buffalo for its residents and fellows. There will be a PR tomorrow. 🎉🎉. Good luck on your STEP3 prep and test in the coming week 😊😊
Hi good luck on step 3 you got this!!! Always enjoy the videos I look forward to them, I’m currently 30 about to be 31 in a few weeks and I’m starting my healthcare journey also. I’m taking my national phlebotomy test next Saturday to get my foot in the door from auto mechanics, then in January I’m starting university for my bsn starting out with chemistry then going to use that to get into med school I want to be a doctor also more importantly an orthopedic surgeon atleast that’s the plan. I know the journey is going to be a long one but looking forward to it, I am a lot nervous though because I was never really academically inclined I wasn’t the best student back in high school. If you have any advice for chemistry I’m all ears and happy to listen, I’ve had a few people tell me good luck!!! That it’s a tough class
Maan I miss my ICU rotation, I got some good sleep lol. 80hr weeks are great. On Ortho my weeks are 100-120 hrs, id kill for 80 lool. Glad youre holding up
good luck on Step 3 Dr. Andersen! Send good vibes my way as I am waiting for 2 decisions from medical schools :) also question for next week’s vlog: what are some things to buy before medical school?
good luck on step 3!! my question is: did you partially choose anesthesiology as a specialty because you value a stronger work life balance? there is talk that the ROAD specialities are better for maintaining side hustles (e.g. youtube) while making good money as a physician. or did it just work out that you fell in love with anesthesiology and it happens to align with someone like you who is a pretty prominent so called "medfluencer"?
Dr. Shaun, excellent video as always! Best of luck on Step 3!! You do what you need to do...and you will crush it and add to your " DONE" lists! Question, are the patients in ICU, all post op? Or, is surgery one of the paths to improvement?
