  • Phil kicks things off with a question: When was the last time you heard the word sin in our courts, schools, governments, or Hollywood? This leads Phil, Jase, and Zach into a candid discussion of counseling, psychiatry, and the relationship between spirituality, sin, behavioral problems, brokenness, emptiness, mental illness, and the human dilemma.

    I’m a paranoid schizophrenic. I been this way for the last 6 years. I also am a manic with severe depression. I’ve been to countless psychiatrists and therapists. But nothing helps, and I mean nothing helps like the word of God. I sleep better and am far more clear headed when I have God in my heart mind and soul. Meds can only do so much and then there is God. He is the best therapist, best teacher, best friend and most of all the best father. There are times when I might of left him but he never left me. He has an understanding and love like no other and it is truly unconditional. Much love to you Gentlemen and the content. Bless you and yours.

      God bless you and in agreement that the saving grace of God through the Lord Jesus Christ overcomes all. We are all in need of His grace and mercy and can do nothing on our own. God can make beauty from ashes and you are an example. We all have issues we deal with and we still sin after we’re saved, but now we have the power through Christ to be forgiven and overcome. Take care and God bless!

    My family is from southwest Louisiana not too for from Lake Charles. My Grandpa ran a state park after he received a bad injury on the railroad. He and my family are God fearing. Everything that my grandparents ate was either, out of the woods, out of the water, or out of the ground. He fished hoop nets, trot lines, and cane pole fished year around. He also had about 5-6 acres of land that he raised all sorts of vegetables on. During hunting season he would stay in the woods hunting deer, ducks, squirrel and other animals. The Robertsons way of life reminds me of my grandparents so much. We need more people like this in America. God Bless from the boot heal.

    My mother was manic depressive as well. Most of her episodes or hospitalizations were in the fall. It took me many years to realize sleep deprivation was what caused most of her problems. She lived on a farm and worked herself half to death all summer, planting a garden, gathering it in, canning and freezing what it took to feed a big family. And taking care of the animals. (My dad was a coal miner.)That caused her to lose sleep and wear herself out physically as well. She was hospitalized in the 60’s and they used electric shock therapy and it affected her memory. She did get her memory back over time though. My own battles with depression started in my 20’s. Medication does help but sleep is critical to keep the chemicals balanced in the brain for some people. I hope Phil or someone in the family reads this, it may help them to understand Phil’s Mom’s condition. God bless all the Robertson’s and all of the Unashamed Nation. 😀

      They zapped my Grandpa's Head with electricity, back in the day too!!! For Depression. He Never did get his memory back up to his dying day and had to be taken care of in a special home. They did this to Naomi Judd, for her depression problems, too, just made her Worse! Don't let anybody do this to you folks! They are overloading the brain, with Harmful Radiation, from manmade Electric and it overrides the Bio Electric, God runs us off of.

    I have Complex PTSD (been through just about every traumatic, horrible event one can go through) AND I am a Christian. It is truly by God's Grace, His wonderful Son, that I am even alive. Here has been my experience (in a nutshell) in terms of dealing with the effects (the illness) due to enduring all these compounded traumatic events: The church, at the time, didn't want to recognize or "deal with" mental illness, that enduring molestation as a child, then rape as an adult from another authority figure, being in horrific car accidents with my parents, enduring other genuinely unjust situations as an adult, and a host of other things (later brought on by myself BECAUSE of those other events due to no fault or sin of my own) and how these events could affect a person's sense of self-worth, sense of trust in people (let alone God!), sense of self---who am I? In other words, a person's "mental health." Instead, they just wanted to kind of give the standard question and answer, "Why is there suffering in the world? Sin..." And while ultimately that IS the truth, they offered no real *genuine* desire to understand, no validation, no real guidance to healing. Many times people, Christians, suffering from mental illness are treated like the lepers were in the Bible, BY fellow Christians, and that's SO wrong and unbiblical. And then, at the exact same time, I had the mental health community, outright dismissing my faith in Jesus, flat out saying "there is no God; there's no such thing as 'good and evil'" (oh!!!), which is NOT untypical of them (and an answer to your question about why mental illness sufferers aren't improving). It is VERY common for mental health practitioners to view Christianity/faith in God/religion, as "irrelevant" at best, and as "an illness to be cured" at worst. So there I was between a rock and a very hard place. Oh, it was so crushing, and still sometimes is, and just added to my confusion and distrust of people, even God, at the time. The damage they did has been incalculable, worse than any of the original traumatic events I endured, which I've forgiven. So, here are my thoughts about this, because I DO think that after one has been subjected to horrible, horrible things, demonic spirits of depression and anxiety and nightmares, etc. can then enter the person; the sin of others' actions opened the door to these spirits: We do need counseling, but we need loving Christian counseling and spiritual help. But my question to Christian leaders has always been: Why don't/won't they lay hands on people and do a type of "exorcism" if they agree and believe these spirits of depression, etc. are demonic and fall on people? The usual answer: "Well, we don't believe in that kind of healing anymore. It's no longer applicable today, plus people will evade taking responsibility for their actions and recognizing their own sin... You should probably seek a mental health professional..." So, in all honesty, the Church in many ways, has failed to help (and I'm still a Christian... turns out, of course!, Jesus HIMSELF, has been my best, wisest and most loving therapist, praise God! He came to me because He knew I believed and was doing everything in my power to recognize my own sins and follow Him and change these things and myself, but that I was getting no help from the Church AND the world, so I'm very blessed in that sense) the "least of his" and the "broken" WHOM are the very people the church was/is supposed to be helping. The Church can't have it both ways, you know? You can't reject helping the needy, reject using the ways the Bible has instructed His leaders and followers to, send them to worldly counsel, and then sit back, surprised, and say, "Wow? Why are so many people depressed in the world? And getting worse instead of better? Why is there so much vitriol? So much addiction? So much pain in people's lives?" I pray there comes a day, if Jesus doesn't come back soon which I'm thinking/hoping He will, when churches will have elders who are trained to understand mental illness, who have the gift of discernment and wisdom, who **truly** know and understand God's Word and teachings and WON'T mangle His Word and water it down (which a lot of "Christian" counselors unfortunately do, simply calling themselves Christians but then following a strictly secular therapeutic model of counseling, which again is of no true help to the hurting, nor does it honor God), and genuinely reach and help these hurting souls. My thoughts for whatever they are worth. Thank you for addressing this topic, and peace of Christ to you all.

    When I was twelve years old, I was asked by a counselor if I heard God speak to me. I said yes. That started a long, long, long journey of being medicated, sedated and berated with the worlds Practice of medicine. It was all a spiritual battle. Sin had entered my life and demonic influence through that sin. After I TRULY gave my heart to Jesus and changed the Sin in my life, 20 years later, all the mental health issues started to go away. It took some healing by The WORD but, I Know that I Know, that I Know that EVERY word in His Word is true. HOLY SPIRIT in, Sin and Mental Health issues Gone.

    I have severe mental and physical illness. I am also a believer in Christ. While Jesus set me free, gave me hope, filled my body with light; I can tell you Phil, that only medications can 'truly' put me in a position, where I can worship God fully. Otherwise, I am a raving lunatic, and cannot help it. It hurts so much to be how I am. I have prayed and prayed and prayed. I have written the Bible out by hand, and fasted numerous weeks at a time. I try very hard, yet, I am burdened by unbelievable physical and mental anguish, which has lasted 10 years. Medications are the only thing which provided unbelievable relief, to the point where I can worship God. If I did not take medication, I would isolate in my home, and never go to church. I am too much of a burden to everyone else by my yelling and screaming. I want to do right so badly. Please Phil, understand that their are Christian brothers and sisters out there, who 'have Christ,' yet their symptoms, are better controlled with medication, than the Bible.

    I agree Phil's points about Sin as Sin.
    I come from a family that has been affected deeply by mental illness. I struggle with major depression, while my brother has paranoid schizophrenia. In addition, both of my parents had anxiety issues.
    My relationship does not exist because it is not healthy for him to be in my life since he is an alcoholic.
    Phil's comments lead me to an understanding about sin and mental illness that begins with how I respond to my anxiety. Do I use God's word, or do I unleash my sinful nature? Mental illness is not an excuse to sin, but it can be a great propeller towards his grace. God can use our lives experiences to draw him to him without wasting anything.
    Let's pray for everyone who has a mental illness.

    • @misterssippi601
      @misterssippi601 3 роки тому +2

      It's not about feelings. It's about FAITH. I realize I can't prove the existence of a soul in a way that would satisfy you but I believe the words of Jesus. If I'm wrong, what have I lost? If you're wrong, you have lost everything that matters in this life and the next. I do hope you find God before its too late. I will be praying for you.

    • @misterssippi601

      It's pretty clear that you can't understand faith. Why does it bother you so much that people have faith? Jealousy perhaps? You seem to spend allot of time trying to convince people that God is not real. Why is that? Who are you really trying to convince?

    • @misterssippi601
      @misterssippi601 3 роки тому +2

      @Free Thinker you got the definition right... Or at least the Bible got it right... but there's no way someone who doesn't have faith or has never experienced it can begin to understand it. Look, I don't have all the clever answers and comebacks that you're probably looking for. I don't know the Bible from cover to cover like allot of people do but I have seen and felt God in my life and I really don't care what anybody else says. There's nothing you can say to me that will make me question my faith or the existence of God. I hope this doesn't sound mean or dismissive but There is nobody on this planet who could ever convince me that God is not real. I don't want to keep going back and forth with you because somebody is gonna get upset and that's not gonna do either of us any good. I do hope you find what you're looking for because it seems to me that you want to believe but you haven't found "proof" yet. Try talking to him. He's always listening. Have a good evening

    • @misterssippi601
      @misterssippi601 3 роки тому +1

      Which is the very definition you cited... I DO see and feel God I'm my life on a daily basis. I'm sorry you haven't yet but I'm hopeful you will. Since you're the person launching the argument, can you prove God doesn't exist? I'll go ahead and answer that for you, because you can't. I don't need to prove the existence of God to you or anybody else. You're the one trying to convince yourself and all of us that he doesn't exist so the burden of proof is on you. Why does it bother you so bad that people believe in God? You seem to have made it your mission to convince us hes not real. You spend allot of time watching these podcast and arguing against them. Why? What has happened in your life that made you feel the need to convince believers that God isn't real?

    This is my first time listening to this! I will be checking in often! I was diagnosed at 13 with bipolar 2 with manic depression and some other things. I was an ex meth addict and alcoholic on top of it all....I have been baptized as a child and again later with my oldest child. I work in nursing. I have been clean for years off the meth but only clean 5 months from alcohol and recently shut down all social media.... I AM under major attack now!!! I'm holding strong and need these messages! I'm diving into the Lord but my goodness I have never been attacked so hard in my dreams and I have cried non stop...I've tried all meds but they make everything worse! The only thing that comes close to peace is God! Keep doing what your doing!!!

    Zach, you did a great job. I appreciated your ability to kindly remind the viewers that the words we choose to express our thoughts are very important. Naturally, many use the phrase “I saved”...when we know saving comes through Jesus by means of the Holy Spirit. We, are only the vehicle used BY the Holy Spirit...so HE GETs ALL the Glory for every new believer. We know Phil knows that; however does not say it. Great session, I appreciate each one of you.

    We all sin. Every day. Not always physically out even outwardly. Some times we sin in our hearts or minds. It be something as simple as passing judgment on someone because of the way they chose to act in a particular instance. We will never be sinless, not any of us. If it were possible to be sinless then we wouldn't need our saviour Jesus Christ.

    My precious Mom (1928-2002) dealt with mental illness all my life. In later years doctors settled on the diagnosis bipolar illness (formerly known as manic depression). She had frequent periods of delusions and hallucinations and in fact got so bad our grandparents had to step in and were guardians of my sister and me for much of our growing-up years. Mom was classic Jekyll and Hyde - she said and did things during the exacerbations that she would have been horrified about under normal circumstances. Mom taught me about and led me to Jesus when I was 4 or 5 and was the sweetest, most gracious and loving person I’d ever known, when she was “at herself.” She was also an alcoholic but got sober in 1987. Because she was a nightmare in the deepest throes of her illness, we weren’t around her much growing up. But I’m confident she’s finally healed and with Jesus Christ, and I can’t wait to be with her and make up for lost time. I’ll not want to ever let her go!

There are cases where medicine is helpful don't get me wrong. I listen to Phil's testimony and Miss Kay and it thrills me! God has the answers to all our problems. One of my favorite words from God came when dealing with a man who was diagnosed with the onset of dementia.
    He told me, "It's not a disease, it's a demon. Cast it out."
    After doing so, the man was immediately set free, believed in Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit.
    That's the power of our awesome God! His truth sets captives free!
    Sometimes you just gotta deal with the truth and let it be what it is, no matter what anyone thinks about it.
    Lives are at stake.

    Potty training a dog is not accomplished by hitting or rubbing his nose in his poop. He only learns that you are not a good person and will avoid you. Crate train the dog until he learns to poop outside. After he gets up in the morning, after he eats, before he goes to bed take him outside to go to the bathroom. Until he gets it he stays in his crate. If he is outside the crate in the house do not allow him to be alone on the loose. I trained many dogs with this system and never failed. The best training is to catch them in the act. Tell him a stern no then carry him or take him out to his "spot" outside. Tell him peepee or poopoo. He'll eventually "get" it.

    I had struggles for years with sin and drugs, I tried it both ways to get better and change. It was not until true believers of the gospel got a hold of me and cast the demons out of me and began discipleship that I finally my life changed. Now people don't even recognize that I was part of that lifestyle (Praise God) they simply see me as "that Christian woman".

    Does sin make a person depressed or mentally ill? Without great details, my life at one time got out of control. I am a Christian and have been for most of my life, but I found myself being taken to the mat. All of a sudden my life was in trouble as my marriage to a Christian woman was falling apart in every way and for every reason you are probably imagining. I reached out for help from family, friends and even professionals. My life got dark, so very dark. I tried to pray, but could not reason. I was in a black hole and my entire life was being presented to me in flashbacks to every single sin in my life. I wanted someone to listen to me and to help with the pain. I turned to scripture and everything I read was making me think my sins were so great, God could not really love me. I was now believing that I was the one person in the world that God would never love or forgive. This went on for a few months. And my marriage ended and my personal worth was gone..... Yet, I continued to search for answers. I wanted to hear from God!
    I was on the mat for the next several years, but still searching. But my life was improving as I had remarried. I was given a chance to start that part over, but was still under the pressure of the past. My new wife would send small devotionals from the company she worked for and I kept searching. One day I was searching for forgiveness from God and turned to the internet to answer if God really listed people as never being able to be forgiven. And in that I saw an article from a national ministry organization and read a Bible study dealing with my past. It dealt with my life. I learned that it was guilt and shame from my sins that kept me from God. That satan was using my past and keeping me buried in my sins and shielding me from the Gospel truth. It was my sins that took me to the lowest part of the depths of an earthly hell that you could find. My depression was a result of my choices and my guilt. My guilt was made possible because I had always thought I was better than what I had become. I lived a lie in me. Why? I had been saved as a young person..... As I started to re-study scripture and started to share with a fellow believer at work. I discovered I had not put on the armor of God. I had not grown wise in Christ. I started to learn Christ in a brand new way. I came to understand more how Jesus was more of a man than what I thought and spent time for 30 years learning His father and His wisdom to prepare for His ministry.
    Sins are a powerful issue that can keep you from the presence of God. Even for a believer, we can turn from God just like the prodigal son in Luke. But God does not turn from us! Sins lead to missing the fruits. It can destroy and it can waste. I am here to testify that the debt and guilt and shame of sin will lead you mind to serious illness of the body and the soul. I am thankful for the message from Phil and Jase. It fills my heart with joy and keeps me wanting more. The gospel of Christ is so much better than what I thought I thought!
