Portable AC hack to cool two rooms at the same time in the townhouse with no duct work on top floor

- The Portable AC is 14,000 BTU Delonghi Penguino.
The top floor of our townhouse does not have any ducts and one room has outside opening windows and a bed that fits into a room only one way, so no way to install the AC... both kids rooms are on the south side of the house, so in summer sometimes they get VERY hot, to a point of not being able to stay in them for extended periods of time, as well as sleeping in them.
So therefore this project.
The original idea was to have a 200 CFM inline fan on the hot exhaust side and 100 CFM inline fans on each of the cold sections. The hot side seems to be doing OK without the fan so far (length is about 2.5 m or 8 feet).
The top takeoffs are joined by bending the tin edges with plyers to each other, but duct tape would also work. Then that contraption is duct taped to the body of the AC. 25 ft 4 inch flexible ducts come from Amazon with two clamps each, and those are perfect to attach duct ends to top takeoffs.
And all it takes is a 5 inch end cap to block the exhaust pipe when AC is not in use or we need to use the dryer.
Top take-offs - amzn.to/3vz9Uvq (these are "Boot Register End 4x10x4 Glv" but will work as well)
5 in to 4 in reducer - amzn.to/3xy4Lov
25 ft flexible duct - amzn.to/2THUJ5I
Scissors - amzn.to/3iPs6yb
Duct tape - amzn.to/3gCAO0U
4 in wye (tee) - amzn.to/3wHNAkI
backdraft damper - amzn.to/3q3eG38 needs to be on both inlets to the tee if you are joining dryer and AC exhaust
inline fan (highly recommended) - amzn.to/2S4Wmdc - ideally you need 3: one for exhaust and two for each end of flexible ducts to assist with the air flow.
This is so cool you should make a video showing how you put everything together 😎
No more noisy aircon unit in the bedroom. Such a good idea! Thanks for sharing.
Nice
Cool!
This is great, nice clean DIY project. Any suggestions on how to shut off one duct? Could always bring both hoses to the room I want, but was trying to figure out a way to block one duct like an inline cutoff.
My rv ac broke, going to do simular while camping this year, going to run to window and put the portable ac under the pullout to keep protected from possible rain.
I'm looking to do same thing. How did you attach the 4" takeoff?
Does condensation occur in aluminum pipes during high temperatures?
yo i did the same thing and i added a 375 CFM Blower On it and ducted it to my room
I have a similar house setting. Can you list the items and how you attached them?
just updated the description with more details
Thank you!!
Hello. Do you think is possible to place the ac unit in a roofed patio outside and install ducts to blow inside?
I don't see why not. You will need to turn it off yourself though as the thermostat in the AC will think that it's always hot and the compressor will run all the time. Use end fans for sure to help the air flow
@@AlekseyNapolskih cool thanks 🙏
does the compressor eventually stop running?
it does if I keep the doors open to rooms and the hallway cools down.
