Hey great episode and I love the channel. Just a quick question. Is the old Bushmills distillery not the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland (and the world) which I think was first licensed in 1608? Also I love the history !
Bushmills fans won't be happy with this response but 1608 is not the year that the distillery was established, but the year in which a licence was granted for a distillery to be built at the site. Bushmills did not become a trademark licence until 1784 whereas the distillery at Kilbeggan was first licensed and started distilling in 1757. The debate will continue far beyond the comments section here I'm sure for years to come!
I don't know what they did but there was no official distillery there by the name of Bushmills. The company archives were destroyed in a bomb blast in Dublin in WW2 so wether info about that early part of their history existed or not, I'm not sure. Smarter men than me might be able to weigh in!
Wonderful stuff once again. So much info and just great to watch. An Irish solicitor and an English crook (or vice-versa) - was there a difference at the time? Just a thought;) Keep up the great work.
Great story Barry. Thanks for posting

@@StoriesandSips hmm fair enough. So was there no distilling occuring at the Bushmills location from 1608 to 1784?

@@wolfis09 I read it was a private distillery until 1784, for the lord of the estate or something
