Kids remember this was all done in one take, not 125 like others do. Thank you for inviting us into your cave, Andy. You gave us a clear look behind the scenes and also your presence was so warm I felt like sitting there and having a cup of tea together. I learned a few things and liked your humorous captions.
Has about four-dozen things showing, quickly explains about six and says "That's about it!" Love it. 😆 Damn Andy, if I had that many toys to play with, nobody would see me for months! 🙂👍
That was fantastic Andy! Love the joy you share while doing so. It was very instructional as well, love your explanation and how you produce your drone. Never stop Droning!
Thought you were bringing out a bagpipe with it all, lol. Great breakdown. It's funny how few yrs ago I did the same thing, looking for "Drone Theory", but ended finding La Monte Young and studying his approach (2, 3, 7 and leaving out fifths).
haha! I love bagpipes!!! thanks for watching 🙂 yeah, so many ways to create drone stuff I guess my love of heavy metal and distorted guitars has me reaching for the power chord root and fifth out of habit, and I really should think outside of the box for a change 🙂 cheers, andy
This is facinating Andy. Good to see a close up of how you do this. I'm coming in and out of this and will check out the second half soon. Warts and all is best. Far too much 'perfect' on the net.
thank you very much, Tom 🙂 yeah, had a mess with a few different views with the DSLR and this one seemed to suit what I was doing here the most but still no close ups, though I'm not sure if that would have helped peeps new to this stuff anyway cheers 👍
Very useful information, Andy. Softube has clouds, which is a little like Elements I think. Would I be right in thinking your fixed pitch is achieved by tuning your oscillators rather than a specific fixed voltage value.
hi Wooks 👋 Clouds is quite different to Elements... Elements is a physical modelling module whereas Clouds is a granular effect I have had a look at Softube modular and the nearest you can get is Rings, which is one half of Elements I think the only way you can get Elements in software is with VCV Rack and, yes, I usually tune an oscillator to the desired pitch but I do also sometimes use CV to select or change the pitch of a drone part... it very much depends on how want to perform the actual drone
@synkrotron Steak and Ale pie, chips & baked beans. Sorry, individual pie. However, Missi said it was excellent as dad always shares his dinner with me.
thank you very much, Jon I am planning on hitting the record button on this one... got some more drone stuff added and I'll do the usual guitar thing over the top... hopefully later today 🙂 cheers, and thank you for watching
thank you very much, James 🙂 yeah, sure, if drone interests you, keep at it, and, as I said I said in the video, we don't have to use modular for this kind of thing
The Hydra has 5 LFOs and 5 Envelopes, so plenty of options for modulation. The Mod Matrix is huge, I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think it has 64 slots. I've heard it said that it's like a modular in a box.
I use to have the blue oberheim ob12 you have in the background, it was slated when it came out but man I created some phat sounding pads…wish I never got rid of it.
