That was really, for those wondering - he's playing the arpeggios from Bach's chaconne in dm, violin partita #2. It's been arrange for guitar already. This was a clever little arrangement.
Crazy thing, i had a class back in highschool all about baroque harmonizing and the teacher kept saying that jazz and baroque music were not that dissimilar. So hearing an improv while mixing the two and the Chaccone quotes is just dope
Yeah its so cool, I always wondered why baroque pieces had so many sections where there would be kinda dull, repetitive parts. I later found out its cuz many of those pieces were intended to have improvisation(esp solos). I think the Brandenburg Concertos are an instance of that
@@vwlz8637 Most decent classical musicians are able to improvise, they are just incredibly uncomfortable doing it infront of others. They study the music they play and the theory behind it very intensively, so they soak up many techniques composers use and can utilize them pretty efficiently when improvising. In the past, classical musicians improvised regularly in recitals. A prime example is Horowitz. Even Bach himself most likely improvised a big chunk of his compositions and wrote them down afterwards without thinking much about "rules" or "structure".
@@most_sane_piano_enthusiast in concertos, a lot of classical pieces do have improvisations written into them. Some cadenzas are actually meant to be improvised. I’ve also seen pieces with a fermata which is an optional section where the orchestra will pause for a second, and the soloist either eyes the conductor to continue, or plays an improvised bit, and then eyes the conductor to continue, or plays a note that signals to the orchestra to come in next beat. They aren’t technically cadenzas as there is nothing written in, but they sorta are. The one problem is, that still doesn’t correlate to jazz lmao. When I did my first solo in jazz band it was beautiful, problem is, I had worked so hard to get a beautiful classical saxophone sound, that nothing I played would sound jazzy with such a dark golden tone, and regardless, I could only improvise in a classical style lol. But since I’m a sax player, regardless of the fact, that I’ve always disliked jazz (I didn’t pick the saxophone for jazz, I was uneducated in all aspects music, and just assumed saxophone was a normal orchestral instrument), it’s still important to know. As a saxophone player, even orchestral pieces (no concertos, but actual symphony’s or pieces, or soundtracks that an orchestra is playing) with saxophone, will require knowledge of jazz, because all saxophone classical reprotoire is contemporary. And the earliest composers that knew about the saxophone, kind of just wanted to hear how it sounds, such as Shostakovich. But later on, they started writing for it, some of them did in a jazz style with a sort of orchestral take. And others used it legitimatly. Which saddens me, because there aren’t many pieces that are strict classical. And even some that are, such as Iberts Concertino, while entirely classical, were inspired by jazz.
@@CashimatWhat does it mean to use the saxophone legitimately? That instrument kinda reached its peak because of its ability to play beautiful jazz vocabulary, that's what most saxophones are built to do. Classical music, as much as you might like it, is not the legitimate way to make music, it's one of many ways.

Having some classical music training can be very useful playing or even singing jazz and even in jazz ballet dancing. It makes it look and sound so much more polished, cool, sophisticated...
I love this! And I would love more BUT ALSO, i think classical guitarist on metal would be sick af 🔥 Some bands: Beyond Creation, Necrophagist (very classically influenced), Obscura, First Fragment and The Ritual Aura
Hey, thank you! I really like your idea about a classical guitarist trying to play metal. I'll check out the bands you mentioned and see if I can do something with that in the future! thanks
Have fun in jazz band I loved it (I play bluegrass rn) The biggest tip is fuck shame and TAKE THE SOLO. Other people will try to get it in your head that sounding bad or messing up is the end of the world, but it's not. Jazz isn't surgery, its not life or death, Jazz is freedom. Experiment, piss people off, sound bad, learn, keep going ❤
Thank you! I love your comment about genre boundaries. I think many classical musicians may feel like they only belong in one genre, but it's not necessarily true.
You know what? I completely forgot about that video until I read your comment. It was not conceived as a reference to that video, but I can totally see the connection.
Know your basic chords and arpeggios for example Maj, min, dim, Maj7, dom7, min7, half dim7, and fully diminished7. Of course you need to know your scales as well. Then just start trying to play songs you like using your ear. You'll find that the majority of them are all made up of the chords and scales that you practice. And above all, enjoy the process!

If you look very closely, most music that stem from tonality are not dissimilar from each other. It is just the practices that differ.
Chaconne quotes 😍
Exactly! How else would a classical guy solo?
Just because you classical doesn't mean you need sheet music. Memory.
Still no improvising tho
