    Few things in Darkest Dungeon feel as relieving as knowing for sure that an enemy will be dead before they can take their next turn. Disregard RNG, Embrace your friendly Plaguedoctor.

    DoT pros:
    - much higher overall damage than direct hits
    - ignore Prot
    - exact damage (no min-max value)
    DoT cons:
    - need to get past resistances (bleeds in Ruins and Cove, blight in Warrens and Weald)
    - require stuns in order to stall long enough to make them effective
    - do not scale from +DMG, and crits only increase the number of ticks
    Due to the slower nature of DoT teams, not having stuns will make you suffer as you're waiting for your DoTs to kill enemies while they're whacking at you. DoT teams are also bad for Endless Harvest due to the variable nature of enemies there.

    When I do dots I go flaggelant, crusader, either occultist or jester, and plague doctor, it's a really effective and well rounded team with a wide variety of moves and setups

    I really like hellion with flagellant, plague doc and houndmaster. Hellion's crit buff deals +33% to bleeding targets and flagellant debuffs bleed resist which helps hellion. Obvious flagellant-plague doc synergy and and houndmaster for additional bleeds and stress heal.

    Pro tip: throw ancestors musket ball and focus ring on PD to make her DOTs crit. Yeah yeah yeah stress casters shouldnt be dying after 5 turns but her crit lines are bomb

    DOT is particularly useful in several ways: It bypasses prot and guard (if the guard was placed after the DOT was), it's essentially free extra damage in a turn, it can be stacked for more damage per tick, it goes off of actions per turn (which is a double edged sword, mainly because enemies with more actions burn through dot quicker, meaning they take more damage per turn, but it runs out quicker before you can stack it) and enemies that die to dot don't leave a corpse, which both reduced the number of slots in an enemy line-up and it denies corpse interaction for enemies that have it (viragos and bone bearers mainly). Plus, if you see that someone is going to bleed out and die to dot, you can leave them in most situations and focus on another threat.
    The main issues with DOT is that depending on the DOT type (bleed/blight) you might have to bring trinkets to boost your chances depending on the enemy resistances (trinkets are always useful, even against enemies vulnerable to the DOT type). Certain areas are naturally resistant to a DOT type (ruins and cove for bleed, warrens and weald for blight. It isn't that you can't bring a blight team to the weald, its that without high end blight trinkets such as the hag's ladle, you will struggle to blight most things (never bring bleed to the ruins, yes, there is that one meme video about making skeletons bleed, but it isn't practical). Moves that apply DOT tend to be weaker in terms of direct damage compared to moves that are purely damage, some bosses are straight up immune to any sort of DOT (looking at you brigand pounder). Enemies with high hp pools are harder to kill with DOT because of the slow nature of DOT (thats not to mean DOT isn't useful against high hp enemies, its works really well against uca's, because of their stupidly high prot, its just that you shouldn't be relying on DOT to kill them quick enough before they get a few hits off) And germaphobe exists, which is never fun when a plague doctor gets it.

    The pro of dots is that the damage is consistent (unaffected by prot). The con of dots is that the damage is consistent (unaffected by damage buffs)

    One thing I enjoy about DOT teams (one of my early go-to DOTS was Vestal for stuns and team heals, Plague Doctor, Grave Robber or Abomination and Shieldbreaker, the other was Vestal, Highwayman or Jester, Flagellant and Hellion) is that… y’know those multi-action bad guys?
    Have fun watching them die to death.
    Pop a team heal if you need to, but… yeah. A lot of DOT attacks reduce resistance to that sort of DOT attack in the next round. You can overwhelm a boss-level enemy in quick time simply by eliminating their resistances to the attacks you are using anyway, and each time they take an action, they bleed or experience critical organ failure (or however Blight works), making them more and more vulnerable.
    It’s extremely satisfying. The speed at which you can eliminate The Flesh, for instance, with a DOT team is pretty cool. It feels like a cheat in a way - using the enemy’s strengths and mechanics against them, but that’s what a good fighter does, after all. You’re there to win.

    Is it a mod that allows you to have so many different missions? I'd love to know how because of the amount of times I've not gotten the right dungeon and lenght of mission I want. Like say I wanna do a long Cove run (for some reason) but I only get short Cove missions and the only long one is the Ruins so I have to reconsider my entire plan. It’s really frustrating if you're trying to lvl someone that has a quirk that makes them better for a specific dungeon.

    I really like running Flagellant and PD, but how do I make this team work?
    PD sucks in the courtyard/warrens and Flage cant do anything to skeletons. So if im not running them in weald or cove one of my units always loses their dot.
    I really dont want to give up on this combo. Clearing reclaim bleeds is great, and having Flage punish rank 3 and 4 during PD's turn one blinding gas feels amazing.
    What 2 other units could I run to fix this comp? Is there a way to make Incision viable?

    • @ShuffleFM
      @ShuffleFM  2 роки тому +1

      You can certainly make incision work. You'd just need the bloody herb trinket for PD. Otherwise for PD if you want to be able to stick blight and bleed, you'll need to run blasphemous vial and another blight trinket like ashen distillation. If you don't have the color of madness DLC though you can try something like Flag/BH/PD/Houndmaster as 1-4, run incision with her, and then swap in disorienting blast so that way you have blinding gas and another stun alongside the heal and incision so she has stuff to do on each turn.
      The overall goal for that duo is to kill the 2 backline enemies in a couple turns, so having some reach on the other members should help fulfill that objective. Another idea would be Flagellant and PD who is in rank 3, then occultist in rank 4 with artillery and spam that. Same idea as before: try and take down the backline quickly and control the front.
      Best I can do off the top of my head, hope it helps :)

  • @Kotoy1
    @Kotoy1 2 роки тому

    Plague Doctor, Vestal, Occultist, Flagellant is one of the most stupid comps you can have. Best healer in the game, 2 of the best stuns in the game, 2 backline cleave dots, flagellant (absolute powerhouse) stress healing (flagellant is an amazing stress healer), a pull and corpse clear, and damage.
    If you learn to play around your stuns and dot damage, learn to control the fight to maximize dots and flagellant hot and learn to switch around flagellant abilities you will dominate with this team. Flesh heart flag and ancestors signet ring+vial occultist is all the frontline you could ever wish for. Also put prophets eyes on pd because that trinket is made for her.
    This team also completly destroys dd3 (full cleared on both darkest and bloodmoon just because i could)
    You can swap out occultist for highwayman if you want. Less utility for more damage. If you do, put hwm in rank 3, advance into 2 on first round for the riposte then help kill priority backline with pistol shot.
