- We Got a Catalina 22 for free! A very generous couple gave us a 1973 Catalina 22 with no strings attached and it has quite a few of the very expensive parts we've been missing from Luna.

Man o man that cat looks like its been thru hell. but you sure got some good salvage in that too. Sailing season starts here april 1st. I reckon if you strip her down you can clean her up and re surface her you got another vessel. I am very curious as to the back story?
As far as we know someone bilked a couple that knew nothing about sailing into buying the boat. They immediately purchased a new set of cushions but quickly realized they were in over their heads and the boat just sat tied to the dock on a freshwater lake for the next 2 years with no attention until we showed up to take her home.

Nice score on the old Catalina 22 guys! I had the same thing happen to me here in California. A guy had a really nice 82 Catalina 22 sitting on a rusted broken down trailer at his mother in laws property and she wanted it gone. I came out with a trailer and got a dirty but mint 22 for free. I know this way too old for you to pay attention to. But, if you happen upon it..... I just purchased my boat (great fresh water boat) and it has no cushions. As in zero cushions. Does anyone have patterns like the patterns used for sewing that I could purchase cut some foam to start to make cushions? I figured you guys would know.
We never found patterns to make our own. I can't remember if Catalina direct sold them but they're so expensive with everything. We did get lucky and found someone who wanted to throw away their boat. We bit the bullet and paid to get it brought to the dump, but it had cushions!

@@AppleRob Nice. Looking like you are going to scrap the hull when you are done with the parts? Is the swing keel any good?
The keel is pretty rusted and it's most likely going to be a big pain to try and take it off before we junk her.

:) if its the typical 25ft mast then that is a big score alone as a new mast extrusion from catalina direct is an easy 4 grand plus. I dont know if you can repair the jib sail but it may be possible to put a stich or two in it. I wondered if the gps still functioned. I am sure you shall find a world of usefull parts and equipment in her. I look forward to seeing more of what comes. cheers to both of you...
How much does a "Free" boat really cost???
In this case it cost us $150 to properly dispose of the hull at the landfill after we stripped what we wanted from it. Now if we had restored her it would have cost more in the parts and sweat equity than just buying a boat that was ready to sail
No such thing as a free puppy, or sailboat.
😂😂😂 That is so true! We did have to pay to bring it to the junk yard. It was still worth it!
