I love Pavarotti and Italian operas like Rigoletto. Watching your face as you enjoyed this was fun. You should go see an opera in-person sometime. Great stories about love, jealously, greed, sacrifice - all told larger-than-life so beautifully. They also show the english translation during performances (just like subtitles on TV). Because you love music and life and react so emotionally to songs, I think you’d really enjoy the experience.
Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo all in the same stage. Fantastic! Pavarotti at his beat and the good hearted competition between the tenors. A fun watch. Beautiful music.
My grandmother who had immigrated from Italy on a boat here to the US used to play Opera all the time. I remember her making her home made spaghetti as she would speak in Italian & get upset say words such as Madone & Fanculo as her hands would go flying in the air 😂🤣. My mom would play Opera all the time as well, this song here although I don't speak a lick of Italian, I can sing every lyric. It brings back such good memories & I absolutely love your facial expression when he hits those notes. Luciano Pavarotti has a voice that can make anyone feel emotional & you have no idea why. Just because his voice is so beautiful. Thank you for doing this one.
I wish I could subscribe several times to your channel to help you get to 100K. You are truly one of the few people on UA-cam whose reactions are worth watching. Your honesty, sincerity, and heartfelt reactions and comments reveal a lot about what kind of man you are. Much respect. God bless.
James. Loved your reaction. You would really enjoy the 3 tenors in Rome 7/7/1990 . The other two are excellent but Luciano is my favorite. I have been waiting for months for 100k for you
James so glad you're back!! I love your reactions because they're so genuine. If you buy a CD I know CDs are out of style but if you buy a CD of an opera it usually has a booklet in there that will have the Opera in both English and Italian and maybe other languages and then you can read the story and understand the story of what's going on. Just a suggestion

I watched the full opera with subtitles. I'm usually not a fan of subtitles when hearing music as it can distract, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have understood what was happening at all.
Hey man, it's really nice to see how much you are enjoying this crazy world of classical music. My grandfather was italian and he introduced me to opera, and specially Pavarotti. If I may say, you should take it one step further and learn Italian. Not only you will continue to appreciate the music, but also the great stories behind those masterpieces!
You are a true music lover. Try the quartet from Rigoletto, Maria Callas singing with Giuseppe de Stefano is probably one of the greatest operatic moments.
As an opera enthusiast myself, I totally agree with you! Alongside Queen, Opera and classical music in general just makes everything better, plus opera is just an invaluable method of storytelling as well! ! In case your wondering, the opera Rigoletto takes place during the 16th century in Mantua, Italy. Pavarotti's character, the Duke of Mantua is the bad guy and an infamous womanizer. Ironically this song describes how women are the fickle/disloyal ones. Rigoletto is the Duke's hunchbacked court jester who has a daughter, whom he is trying to keep hidden/protect from the Duke's philandering clutches and the corrupt court. When his daughter is ultimately abducted, delivered to and seduced by the Duke, Rigoletto ultimately hires an assassin named Sparafucile to get revenge. The assassin's sister helps him. In this scene, its near the end of the opera, the Duke goes to the assassin's house, unaware of who he is. The woman the Duke was kissing is the assassin's sister Maddalena and her job is that she is supposed to entice the Duke and her brother would deliver the killing blow. I won't spoil the rest for you, read the synopsis on your own. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigoletto#Synopsis
Pavarotti was/IS the very best and to see you watching, loving and reacting to him is a sheer joy. Can’t wait for your next reaction-a different genre but have you ever listened to Christina Perri ‘Jar of Hearts’? Would love to see your reaction to her.
I'm also 69, and love opera. If you ever watched Bugs Bunny cartoons as a child, you might recognize a lot of classical music bits. On UA-cam, I recommend starting with lighter, comical operas like The Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute. Also look for English subtitles, they help a lot. Even better, go see an opera live, there is nothing like it.
Let me add to the list Cecilia Bartoli's version of Vivaldi's Agitata Da Vue Venti. I just rewatched the one on the Opera Planet page. It's stunning, as in, How does she do it kind of stunning.
You are special in that you get it and can appreciate other genres of music. You would like Dmitri Hvorovstovsky. He unfortunately died a year or so ago at an early age due to cancer but he is amazing.
I don’t know where you live, but please seek out opera performances in your city, find your favorite production and treat yourself to a live performance - you will never forget it - ❤️

If only you could get behind the scenes at the Met,(Metropolitan Opera House in New York City), and follow an opera performance from warm up and costuming to stage. You'd love it! @TheMet
Nice thing about so much classical stuff is it's somewhat less likely to be blocked... James, take a listen to the soprano aria "Queen Of The Night", composed by Mozart. It's just wild.
So you should expand to the Sopranos. Maria Calis, Montserrat Cabelle, Jessie Norman, Joan Sutherland. The Irish Tennors, and even the Baritone and Bass Singers.
For a moment I thought you meant the Sopranos as in the late James Gandolfini's TV show...and the theme song started playing in my head: "woke up this mornin', got yourself a gun..." in that beltsander voice! 😁
If you loved Pavarotti singing in Rigoletto.. you may enjoy ELINA GARANCA, (who is one of the world's foremost Mezzo Sopranos), performing George Bizet's CARMEN.. she sings the role of CARMEN so well! The Opera is in French, but presented here with English subtitles.. This short video is from the New York Metropolitan Opera.. the song is " "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle".. Everyone has heard this music, they just may not know where it's from... This is a GREAT performance! Enjoy~ here's the link ua-cam.com/video/K2snTkaD64U/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/Z0PMq4XGtZ4/v-deo.html This is a scene of Luciano playing the clown in the opera called Il pagliacci which means the clowns. It's it's an opera about people that are putting on a play in Italy in the 1800s and the play includes these clowns and he plays one of the clowns and in the play his wife cheats on him. But in real life in the Opera his wife does cheat on him. In this scene he's coming to the full realization of that and he is saying I am the clown I have to put on this makeup paint on a happy face but inside my heart is dying. It's just one small scene from a great Opera. Enjoy my friend!!
It might interest you to know, Pavarotti was very nearly a professional footballer (that's soccer to you), what a shame that would have been! Nice vid.

At the time of his death, Pavarotti has sold 100 MILLION albums - not bad for an "Opera" singer.

I believe that was from the movie "Yes Georgio" which I think is loosely about his life.
