Rob THANK YOU!!!!! At 930p in Illinois and my house was 90 degrees. I installed a Honeywell digital thermostat in the winter. As I tried to turn the AC today it was not turning on. Viewed other videos and no help. Looked for the c wire per your video and boom ... it worked!!! Thank you again! Saved me money from making a call to HVAC.
If you have no C wire, can you not split the G wire by splicing 2 wires off of it so that you can also still use your fan? I mean these are low voltage wires so it should not be a safety issue. The only thing I could think of is loss of power by the division of the wire.
All these videos about the c wire are missing "how you tell its a C-wire" so as not to confuse it with this "g-wire" that "might still work" is it just written on the wire? Or am I supposed to look at it and magically know "that's the c-wire I sense it" lol
my advice is to always look at the thermostats labeling and that will tell you what wire is what and then by process of elimination the wire left must be the c wire
The problem with this video is that I wanted to know how to test the unused C wire using my multimeter in order to confirm that it does not already have power.
“My green wire is connected to G a blue wire to Y a cream wire connected to W and a red wire to R with a jumper to RC.My spare wire is yellow is this d C wire? I am starting to get the feeling that the blue wire connected to the Y is the actual C wire and that the thermostat was just connected wrong. Would this be correct? Everything has always seemed to work fine. I live in old apartments but use alexa and I really want to get a amazon thermostat.
I pulled the harness out and found the c wire tucked away, followed your instructions to the furnace, and one of the two wiring harnesses coming into the wall has a blue c wire hooked up to the junction and the other is coiled up around the harness,. What should I do?
replacing exact same thermostat w a new wifi thermostat. Like you, had the blue c wire tucked into the wall and wasn't connected to a terminal at the furnace either. checked the furnace and it already had a white wire connected to the c terminal. tried to twist together the unconnected blue wire with the white wire that was already connected to the c terminal (at the furnace) but still couldn't get the wifi thermostat to power up. Any ideas?
I have an extra wire in my thermostat but it is not blue it’s like a mustard yellow color and I am not sure if I can use that as a C wire since it’s not blue, can someone please help
There was an info card but I completely forgot to add to description and comments, hahah. I have added it now thanks for the callout. Heres the link if you are still needing assistance: ua-cam.com/video/ocvF2_ZfD-M/v-deo.html
So I have a blue wire connected to the Y but the yellow is tucked behind. I’m assuming the C wire would be the yellow wire and the blue is used as the Y wire 🤣. Why would they do that
Hahaha that is a great question that I don’t know a logical answer to! But also the reason I explain to not always assume the standard color coding was followed and to actually use the correct process to make sure the correct wires are being connected! Yet I still get people that argue that BLUE is ALWAYS the C wire. Lol!
Sorry completely forgot to add the info card. Here is the link to the video I was talking about if you still need it: How to Connect an Unused C Wire (Common Wire) ua-cam.com/video/ocvF2_ZfD-M/v-deo.html
It's great if you have a wire wrapped in the back. But you didn't clearly identify how we could isolate the C wire. Is there a voltage or amp going through the wire that we can identify it with?. Otherwise the video is kind of useless.
Yes...? You either have a c wire or you don’t. Thermostat wiring comes as a bundle. So most installers just tuck it back into the wall if it’s unused. It’s not like there’s some random place in your house you’re going to find it. 😂 What’s so confusing?
Lol, do I care? Nope. Thanks for the dislike, it still counts as engagement and helps boost the video. Also learn to count. I didn’t say it a single time in the first 10 seconds 🤣🤣🤣

I did not know what C wire is, so this video is really helpful. Thank you very much.
I don't see info cards. You said the links would be in the description and the comments, but I don't see them either place.

Excellent video and your C wire install video is as well.
Thank you for being very informative about the c wire.
No problemo!

In the video you said you'd place a link for anyone that didn't have a C-wire?

What if you use a jumper to steal the g wire? Will that work?
On my non wifi Honeywell I have a black and white wire going to the white terminal. Can I assume the black could be the c wire
If I take the batteries out of my thermostat, and it still has the display on... Does that mean the C wire is hooked up?
Good question Soljarag5 ......wonder why they will not answer it?
@@carolburnett8372 turns out I did have a C wire... But YMMV
The problem with this video is that I wanted to know how to test the unused C wire using my multimeter in order to confirm that it does not already have power.
Put your multimeter on V~ and see if it pulls voltage…
This ia GREAT! Thank you!

Burn the house down
What's the link for connecting c wire in the furnace ?

I thought the G wire was to turn on your AC Blower only ?

Do you have junctions that come off the control board similar to this video?
@@RobSomeKnowledge not that i can see. the wires from the terminals feed into a a brown wrap and bundled together.

Follow the same wire on the inside of the furnace or air handler, and see where that wire connects to on the board
How about that D?
@2:48 Is it just me or is there no link in the info card, description or comments? Lol

I have a blue wire but it’s connected and not wrapped around in the back. More explanation necessary.
How is it connected if it’s wrapped in the back?
Can a C wire be attached to this particular thermostat?
No
@@RobSomeKnowledge Thanks. Couldn't find an answer on that anywhere. I wonder why they would make thermostats without c terminals?

So... what if behind my thermostat there is more than just one wire that isn't being used?? Now what??
@@RobSomeKnowledge what if you don’t have a C wire at all?
Then you’ll either have to run a new thermostat wire or most smart thermostats have a C wire adapter you can use
you turned off two 220V circuits which have absolutely nothing to do with the thermostat. Makes no sense.
I’d rather turn off more than less lol so I just turned off anything that had to do with HVAC
