this is probably one of chvrches' best songs and performances, the song is perfect with a great buildup and balance between vocals and instruments, it just all fits so well with Lauren's voice to the perfect rhythm

I do agree with you.
There's another version of Clearest Blue "live at SPIN at Stubb's" which is also wonderful. Lauren's performance was overwhelming. She was more involved, very expressive in gestures etc
But I think this pitchfork version here is pretty good, has some minimal adjustments on instrumental parts.
Chvrches is the biggest breakthrough in pop music in the 2010s for me. I would like to know more about who is more responsible for what in the band. who is more songwriter, if there is a real partnership in this sense, who is more connected to the images associated with the band, etc.
Ps: just think they deserved better videos. Something more autoral, pieces of art.

Props to the guy at 2:59 for being almost the only guy in the crowd who seems excited to be there. I would have loved to see Chvrches live, ,and the rest of the crowd seems so dead!

No, they're mostly loaded with patches and and MIDI controllers to activate stuff from Ableton. If you're able to find the Make Them Gold performance you'll hear Martin make a mistake on the opening synth haha.

Got that same goosebumps feeling I had the first time I heard Recover at like 2am. The layered vocals at the end are insanely awesome.
The studio version really doesn't do them any justice. The live version is kick ass.
Seeing this for the first time just sent a wash of goosebumps over me. Perfect mix of 80's and contemporary pop. It makes me nostalgic for moments in my life that have never even occurred...if that makes sense.

It completely works in the context of the song and is more of an ambiguous approach on the idea of Depeche Mode's rather than total plagiarism. It carries the vibe more than anything, and most likely it was the vibe they wanted to bring to the song rather than stealing the music note for note.

how reverb and echo effects on her voice saved the performance is amazing. just watched an older chvrches performance on pitchfork where they for some reason left laurens voice "dry" and it sounded so terrible whereas this is even better than the studio version. Glad they improved
