  • We are very happy to share part 3 of this amazing project! In May 2022 Rakey and Jim spent a week with the team from @Budějovický Budvar in the Czech Republic.
    This was a chance for them to immerse themselves into the world of Czech lager, which they both adore. It was also a chance to learn from the masters of brewing this style which couldn't be missed.
    Part 3 sees the boys take a trip to Pilsen and the head office of Lukr, the specialists in making the Czech Side Pour Tap. After this we learn how to use the tap and pour a few different styles of drink back at Budvar's amazing training facility!
    At the end of this series we will be releasing a recipe kit and full instructions on how to brew a homage to Budvar at home, using methods and knowledge learnt on the trip. Plus we'll have other events and discussions over the coming months on the subject of Czech lager, so be sure to follow our socials to get involved and learn more.

      btw Budvar is not Pils (Pilsner type of beer - if you say this in Pilsen you would have to run away as fast as possible :)

    I wish this had also mentioned how to get the best out of bottled or canned Czech beer in terms of the pouring. Is there anything you can do to ensure a good head?

      Yes, following much of the same principles as pouring. Start with a very clean glass, thats been chilled to the same temp s the beer. Then do a hard pour for the first 2 thirds of the can to get the head thick, then let it settle for 30-45 seconds before gently pouring the rest in! Also, if you have the Budvar tankards that helps as it looks cool!

      Don't. I think it usually tastes better straight from the bottle/can, because pouring it trough air will cause oxidation. There is a reason why we submerge the tap (and why the sidepull taps are significantly more expensive) and definitely don't use warm, dry glass, that should be considered crime against beer (rinse it out with cold tap water)

    Jim got quite spoiled, I wouldn't mind helping him up with the burden of travelling to taste the best beers in the world.
