Some tips and techniques
Thunder tiger PRO 21 Nitro engine
As found in the MTA4 , Eb4 , ER1 and ST1 1/8th scale RC
Good work! Can’t believe the carb wasn’t seized as well. Here is a tip to make this job easier next time. Leave the flywheel on. Or put a flywheel on. Then you won’t damage the crank with your pliers. That’s the wrong tool anyway. You should be using a shock pliers on the crank. But best tool would be multi grips on the flywheel. More leverage.
Also you should never work on a cold engine. Heat it up with a heat gun/hair dryer first for 3 mins to ensure it’s warm. Second you should always tap the screws first to break the rust. You were lucky, these screws were not frozen. But when the motor is like this you don’t take chances. Use a small hammer and old Allen keys to tap on the screws and break the rust. Then use your quality hex driver to remove them. Keep up the good content. #CorporateNitro
Great Point about the heat I should have added that in, Heat is your friend here!, Where I am working is a very warm place next to a powerfull radiator so I didnt think about it when making the video
Wow toothbrush to remove these sleeve!! Never thought of this. Good idea. Won’t work most of the time because sleeves are frozen. You got lucky. Normally they need heat. Lots of heat. This engine was is great condition internally. Sleeve came out. No stripped screws. Carb wasn’t frozen. Normally it’s the other way around. Engine looks good on outside but rubbish on inside. You got lucky!
Yes this was a good example really as you say with no stripped or seized screws
Great video! Damned i am so glad somebody made a thear down vidéo on that engine!!! Are you also going to do a refurbishing / rebuild video?
First of all hello and thank you for that video!!! I am completely new to RC!!! I was recently given an old Thunder Tiger EB4 S25 from a friend of mine. I know the car has run a couple of years ago. I have even tried it for a bit. Then it's been sitting in my friend's basement for the last 2 years until he decided to offer it to me. After a quick check I have noticed that the pull starter cord needs some repair. I don't know yet about the coil spring... Anyway if i am able to rebuild the pull starter, do you have any advice so that i maximize the chances to get this car back to life? Would you have some sort of "carefullness check list" before i try to fire up the engine? :)
Glad to hear your giving the restoration a go, I will be uploading some videos that may help you soon.
Il try to get the rebuild video up this weekend!
heat up anti freez drop it in there it will make the block new
I will try that - Good idea as it specifically designed to keep alloy componants corossion free, I might try it in the ultrasonic cleaner
Certain oh a great way to fall asleep. Watching this
Glad you found it helpful!
"Loses all compression" it has zero compression
