    I take this train every single day from my home in beaverton to my job in Portland. I usually just use my phone or read while listening to music. Most of the time the service is very reliable and I’ve only noticed more frequent delays on the oldest line, which is the blue line that serves Gresham.
    The nicest thing about the max is how seamless it is with the busses and streetcar (downtown tram) - they all use the exact same fare method and you can just exit one and board another as long as you tap your card. And it caps out at a day pass so you never get overcharged. (Does the same for a month pass after 30 days of riding)
    The only real complaint I have is that, aside from the station at Washington Park, which is in the center of the tunnel between Portland and Beaverton, ALL of the Max’s infrastructure is above-ground, and when it needs to go through downtown it can be affected by traffic congestion.
    On the upside, they are going to be closing some of the redundant stops downtown to speed up the trip through it. Also, it just looks really cool seeing it gliding through the streets on a rainy day.

    I live in the suburbs. Love getting on the nearest TriMet bus or MAX train, putting in my headphones and putting on music or a Podcast, just looking out the window and just riding to the end of the line. So relaxing and honestly weirdly fun!

    One of the reasons I chose to live in Portland over Seattle is because of our transit system. You can get around effortlessly without a car here. You can get the occasional crazy person on these trains, but that is just a part of living in a big city.

      you will find that in a city whether there is a good transit system or not.

      It's also a byproduct of homelessness here. We need to build a lot more cheap housing and get these people off the streets and into decent jobs.

    If only light rail wasn’t so damn fragile. And if only Portland’s light rail wasn’t so damn slow.

    Compared to Vancouver’s sky train and Seattle’s Link system it seems really slow. It’s unfortunate that it runs on surface streets in downtown Portland. They should have separated it from traffic and pedestrians.

    Im impressed. Coming from a small(size wise) city Boston we have a huge subway system. Portland looks to be very extensive for their even smaller size as well.

      MrSquareart Light rail is only meant to connect cities that are close to each other, so connecting Seattle and Portland would be completely out of that range, since the two cities are almost 200 miles away from each other.

    Why do trams always rely on top wires for power? Cant they bring their own fuel like buses and cars?

    • @AmbientMorality
      @AmbientMorality 5 років тому +7

      Yes, but why would you do that? Trains are already a major investment with a lot of fixed infrastructure, so adding wires doesn't add much cost; it's more efficient to provide power than to have it carry around batteries or fuel.

    • @jamessanford6945
      @jamessanford6945 5 років тому +2

      1st, You really do not have to make bad comments about MAX. MAX and WES are both really great and reliable transit trains. 2nd, this is a video about a LIGHT RAIL, it clearly says in the title, so you don't have to say that the WES which is obviously a HEAVY RAIL is better and the train in this video is about MAX not WES so you should probably just click away, and watch something about WES

    • @jane-wing
      @jane-wing 5 років тому

      basketballfan 008 pretty sure he’s joking, the WES is a relic. It doesn’t even have its own line, it shares rails with the freight tracks, and holds up 3 roads of traffic in beaverton every time it comes or goes from the station. It only runs a few times a day lol
