I am 24 now but I started learning Chinese at age 22. After a while of intense learning of the language, strange things started happening, such as remembering things that happened long ago deep into my childhood, or vivid visions of dreams that had been dreamt years ago and long been forgotten. I'm not sure why this is happening, but it is almost like I have unlocked the secret storage compartment in my brain that has been holding all the information from my childhood that had long been forgotten about.

If I were you Dave, I would've checked my childhood photos because sometimes your brain remembers the tiniest details. Also, I would've ignored this because I think it's a coincidence to remember things that happened in the past. In addition, an active imagination can be caused by watching too much Netflix, so I would cut down the time i spent doing this.

I've been learning English for some years all alone. Learning will never be a problem for me, however, I have to face the fact that I have to learn two language at once, the one from the books and the real one that comes outta the people's mouth. The spoken language, the nativelike language people speak on the street, or, their causal way of speaking is what I would call the Jackpot. So I've got to find a solution to grab my Jackpot.

As I'm from India, my school taught three languages "English, Hindi(national language) and Kannada (state language)" and Marathi is my mother tongue language so I just know it. even tho I know these many languages, they are helpful only when I'm in india? they won't be helpful if I go abroad. also, regarding tips. One thing I've found that I find interesting: I've had a very difficult time reading aloud every since I was a kid. I stumble over my words a lot. I've been learning Norwegian, German, and Spanish and I've found that after studying, I can read aloud perfectly in my native language for about half an hour.

The younger you are, the easier, therefore, will be to speed up your language learning process. However, if you speak already at least 2 languages, it’s then gonna be less difficult to get fluent in a third one as your brain is already adapted to learning languages. Now then, the best option to learn fast is to live within an environment where the language you want to learn is officially spoken, however not all people have the change to do so.

    • @jurassicthunder

I can attest the last part is a myth. All you need is surrounding yourself with media that uses that language. Be it your phone or youtube videos or music or podcasts or simply talking to yourself. Trick is you have to do this over and over again until your brain gives up and takes it all in as a native language.

There are a bunch of languages i want to learn :
(This is just personal notes for myself)
    - Spanish : im currently learning spanish in school & once im done with this year & next year's classes i want to continue learning.
    - Polish + the culture : i have a lot of polish family on my mom's side & i want to learn the language with her specifically so we can both communicate.
    - Ukrainian + the culture : i'm also Ukrainian, most of it on my dad's side & i think its a really cool language & that it'd be fun to learn.
    - French : i know its a difficult language to actually grasp but i still think it'd be really neat to learn at some point in my life.
    - Korean + the culture : i think its a really cool language & that it'd be fun to learn. Theres a *lot* to it but i feel like me beingba fan of kpop would help me a bit since i listen to the language so often.
I want to go to all of these countries & explore there for a while as well.

The reason that study found that kids store their native language in a different area of the brain to adults is in the way 99% of adults go about learning languages, as if they were math problems to be solved, consciously analysing every single detail. If adults just relaxed and did full time immersion for 7 years, as children do, that language would be stored in the same place as their native language.
