Tip 109, if you've never played A sniper Elite before don't start the game before watching this video Thanks mate I started playing co-op with my brother and we didn't know half the things you've shown here. I don't understand how they let you jump into the game with absolutely no tutorials
There is 1 tutorial at the start to tell you how to stealth kill on a climbable thing, how to use binoculars, and shooting a crate to fall all the way down to hit the people.
Some additional tips: 1) You don't always want to shoot to kill. If you injure one soldier and make him fall to the ground often one of his fellow soldiers nearby will rush out of cover and run to him, sling him over their shoulder and attempt to carry him to safety to bandage him. This is the moment you shoot both lethally with one shoot - a great way to get double kills and to lure enemies out of cover. I'm not quite certain how to reliably injure but not kill with the rifle, but I tend to aim for their knees or legs in general which seems to do the trick most of the time. 2) Bullets will ricochet off hard surfaces like rock, concrete and metal but will not ricochet off soft surfaces like wood, soil or sand. 3) Remember that the soft surfaces that bullets will penetrate through, are not just wooden fences, wooden boxes, wooden doors or wooden walls, but also wooden floors, wooden ceilings, all tents, windows, shutters and many other. Penetrating floors and ceilings make it especially easy to kill marked enemies. Note that penetrating anything slows the bullet down which makes it drop off much more so you sometimes need to aim a little higher depending on how much longer the bullet needs to travel. If the enemy is hiding right behind a wooden door then it hardly has time to drop but if you are hiding behind a door and the enemy is much further then you need to compensate for this. The damage from a bullet that have already hit something will also be lower so try to aim for some critical like the head or the heart as even with little damage these will still be kill shots. 4) You can place your explosive traps near other explosives already on the map to trigger a chain reaction and make the kill zone much larger. 5) You don't have to wait for the enemy to step on one of your traps - you can shoot them too. Use suppressed ammo if you want to stay silent - the traps will be triggered by any amount of damage to them. You can also shoot TNT that you have placed. 6) If you need to punch the lights out of an enemy to capture them but they have spotted you, you can either run away and hide until they stop hunting for you, or throw a rock in their face to stun them for a few seconds which might be just enough time for you to rush them and knock them out. 7) Dead enemies can not only be trapped with explosives or placed near a hiding place where you can jump out and knife enemies that come searching - you can also place them near environmental traps like under a hanging net of heavy cargo and then trigger the trap when the enemy comes to investigate. 8) When in a minefield you can use your binoculars to more easily spot and mark the mines the enemy have placed. These can then be shot, disarmed or just avoided. 9) Radiomen carry radios on their backs that will explode when shot. 10) Faust troopers (Rocketeers) carry rocket launchers. These are dangerous but on the upside their rockets are large and can more easily be hit by a well placed shot. Preferably while they are still hanging from the belt of the enemy or when one is loaded in the rocket launcher .. try not to wait until it's flying. Oh you can shoot it mid-air if you have the skills and that goes for thrown grenades as well but why risk it? 11) Tanks and APCs have slots you can shoot the crew through. At first the driver will be looking and it will be the only open slot. When he is dead, the gunner will open his.

It's a computer game so anything goes but if you want to roleplay it, then remember that the Genova conventions got many of these modern rules in 1949 and this game takes place before '49 and also only some european countries signed them - Karl Fairburne is American OSS and as an American doesn't give a shit about war crimes since the US never signed any papers saying they wouldn't do war crimes. Sniper Elite and many other games are war crime simulators.
Here are 2 more tips - 1. Double tap the weapons keys to access and toggle their secondary functions. For instance, double tap the Rock key and get the Whistle and vice versa. 2. After downing an interesting target at distance, use the binoculars to TAG the dead body for a later search when in that area. The Tagged body will be shown as such when you get near enough.
At the start of every mission, I always survey my surroundings and tag as many soldiers, vehicles, gas canisters, and anything else that can explode and use that to my advantage. Always take note of tall buildings or other tall structures that is usually where the snipers are, take them out with your sniper rifle whenever you get the chance or they'll take you out. As I move into new areas I repeat the process. Lure single soldiers into the tall brush by tossing rocks and whistling, when they enter the brush knife them. If you can get fairly close to a soldier you can rush them and knife them. When possible use the brush to move and hide. Another trick I like to use is to get several enemy soldiers to investigate the noise of a rock I have just tossed. As soon as they gather to investigate the noise target one of the soldiers with a sticky grenade this is an excellent way to get multiple kills. This game is very rewarding for the player who has patience when it comes to playing stealthily.

Played 200 hrs of this game and still learnt something new here. Shooting through wooden panels and closing in on enemy while planes flying over head was one. I've usually taken shots when the planes fly over but I'll be sure to use that moment to move closer to the enemy or to another position. Thanks.
Fantastic stuff! I have over 300 hours on SE4 and still didn't know some of these (throwing rocks at lights and shooting the supports for log stacks are just two). Definitely giving these a try in my next playthrough. :)
Best shooting tip I picked up: keep your scope set to 100m, and only increase it for longer shots past 150m. Personally, I never set to 0m. That way, anything up to 100m will be hit without bullet drop. Also, depending on your scope setting, sometimes you may need to aim below the target instead of above... i.e. if the enemy is at 160m, I may set my scope to 100m and aim above the target, or I can set to 200m and aim below the target.
Also you can Quick Toggle normal / suppressed ammo with the D pad - say your sniper rifle is set to "UP" on the D pad you can double tap UP on the D pad to toggle ammo types - Also useful, if you have rock on your quick select D pad: you can again double tap to swap between Rock and Whistle etc....Nice timesaver, over the whole game length! Any item that has togglable attributes put on your quick select can be swapped in this way! 👍 👍

Note for tip 20: While shooting a generator with a rifle destroys it, you can opt to shoot it with suppressed ammo which causes less damage and will leave the generator sabotaged. This goes for high damage pistols as well - switching to suppressed ammo and thus doing less damage will keep the damage you do to the generator under the threshold that will make it blow up.
I hope they will make a Vietnam or modern setting game with the same mechanics. These guys are the best at making sniper games and there is a lack of more modern setting sniper game imo.

Great tips! Knew all except melee around corners and killing officer and getting duty roster (very handy). Here's a few of mine: Multikill (yes you can have more than a triple kill, use dynamite with delayed traps). Another one I use sometimes is: lure a group of troops near a dead soldier and shoot the grenade on the dead soldier (good if you want to save your mines).
1-When you shoot a volt-rifle appears in the screen a tip (reloading), but if you are using an automatic-rifle it does not appear. 2-You can place a trap in a body and move it, also use it like bait. 3-You can use bandages while runnig. 4-If you kill a soldier non spoted, you can use your binoculars to see what its carriying. 5-if you have a SMG and pick HMG ammo, you save it until find an HMG and change it. And there are more tips but this great video if for beginners. You deserve my like.
You can also use rocks to break out the windows of some buildings. Place traps at the entrances to the building and use it as a sniper's nest or use the sound of the breaking glass to lure enemies into traps placed near-by. Mostly useful in DLC missions, but the dockyard mission has several locations where it can be done as well
By chance, I picked up Sniper Elite 3 and 4 recently after enjoying SGW Contracts and looking for more. While I enjoyed SE3, this game is on a whole other level, particularly the authentic mode I’m playing. I love the lack of ability to tag and see enemies, no zoom on the binoculars or scope, no cheats to help you aim better, it’s raw and the stealth and tactical mechanics of Sniper Elite 4 are clearly on a whole other level to SE3 or Contracts. I’m therefore somewhat surprised to find my late arrival is so perfectly coinciding with the (long awaited for most of you) launch of Sniper Elite 5! It will be fascinating to see what level of enhancements they can and have made over this time. Very much looking forwards to more content, this is a great channel and I’ve subscribed.
I use to love Sniper Elite 2 for feeling like a badass sniper. Sniper Elite 4 almost lets me down in it's sniping, but all the utlity and various player choices to how you approach a mission make it one of my favorite Commando games weirdly enough. I rarely ever snipe when I have so many other fun tools to use.
Having played all the sniper elite games, and several hundred hours combined between them, I knew most of these. But the couple I didn't know are game changing. Great video.
I'm no noob to the series but this is still a great video! There isn't too many mainstream video creators in the series so this is definitely handy. I even had my own attempt at videos on this myself!
This is a great video for anyone looking to get into this fantastic game, which is super rewarding once it makes sense. I've played through it twice, one of the times on Authentic mode, and I never knew that you could shoulder-aim the sniper rifle, or melee around corners, haha. Good tips for players of all levels.

Very useful video, both for beginners and someone like me with nearly 300 hours in the game, who hasn't played for a while. Also, great narration that just tells you what you want to know, unlike the narrator in Rebellion's own videos who insists on constantly making lame jokes, which is annoying as hell.

the gameplay visuals combined with commentary are really good cause i know some things in writing but i dont know how they actually look like , like shooting the granades of soldiers, i realized they have them up in the chest not the belt, i was thinking of those normal granades that are like lemon shape, or the mouse 3 button , i thought it changed pov so felt kind of useless until you mentioned its actually flipping sides left sided vs right sided , now i understand it and gonna use it more

If you are in a bush or a few steps away from an enemy you can hit them with a rock and it will delay them from drawing their weapon on you also giving you a extra second to get close enough for a melee kill. Great video thank you for these tips.
A bit late on here but ' better late than never' I got SE2 3 and 4, love these British made games, on Steam with an Xbox controller, USB connected, in SE2 there is a tutorial at the beginning, so this taught me how to sneak around n shoot. But with any games, make mistakes and you learn. The tip you did miss was when in the bushes and having a dump be sure you are downwind. Well presented tutorial, 10/10 clearly understand your cool calm British English voice, they are the best with tutorial lessons.
Good guide. I picked up several tips even after playing all these years. Fun tip...I try to play the entire game shooting the radiomans radio pack and enjoying the explosions.

Wow, it’s really cool how you can’t just sit in one spot and farm kills, you must actually move around or else they will find you. I heard once that a very important rule of a sniper is one shot they will hear you, and second shot they will see you.

Wow i never knew the schedule roster item opened all the tagged enemies. I always wondered why i saw sometimes tagged enemies which i did not tag. Also a tip from me: Remember your suppressed ammo locations, they stick on the same places and we all love silenced gunshots, also use the grenates on the mob his body to do double or tripple kills. when they come together you have a perfect oppertunity. anotherone i always use is the trip /tnt combo. i always line up a trip explosive and makes this stronger with tnt for tanks. No way you miss the tank then. I also have a question about the weapon upgrades, not on the load out, but in game, sometimes i see them unlocked and others are locked, is there a way to unlock them in game, i mean the weapons that are carried by mobs or finding in game like Greta..
Great video. Thinking about revisiting 4 for awhile before taking on 5. Its been a bit and I’m out of practice. Probably won’t help, especially if the controls are significantly altered. But if nothing else it will help to get back into the mindset. Besides the fact that I really enjoyed 4 and am sure to enjoy it again!

Its wierd how sniper elite has become the closest thing we have to metal gear solid 5 style stealth action gameplay

How to throw rock?
On PlayStation it's L1, on other platforms it's the same button as for healing, but you have to choose it first.

I love the lack of ability to tag and see enemies, no zoom on the binoculars or scope, no cheats to help you aim better, it’s raw and the stealth and tactical mechanics of Sniper Elite 4 are clearly on a whole other level to SE3 or Contracts. I’m therefore somewhat surprised to find my late arrival is so perfectly coinciding with the (long awaited for most of you) launch of Sniper Elite 5! It will be fascinating to see what level of enhancements they can and have made over this time. Very much looking forwards to more content, this is a great channel and I’ve subscribed.
I use to love Sniper Elite 2 for feeling like a badass sniper. Sniper Elite 4 almost lets me down in it's sniping, but all the utlity and various player choices to how you approach a mission make it one of my favorite Commando games weirdly enough. I rarely ever snipe when I have so many other fun tools to use.
This is a good video. I knew all of this by simply playing the game but it's good to see the effort put into this. The game is stellar imo.

I'm no noob to the series but this is still a great video! There isn't too many mainstream video creators in the series so this is definitely handy. I even had my own attempt at videos on this myself!
This is a great video for anyone looking to get into this fantastic game, which is super rewarding once it makes sense. I've played through it twice, one of the times on Authentic mode, and I never knew that you could shoulder-aim the sniper rifle, or melee around corners, haha. Good tips for players of all levels.

Very useful video, both for beginners and someone like me with nearly 300 hours in the game, who hasn't played for a while. Also, great narration that just tells you what you want to know, unlike the narrator in Rebellion's own videos who insists on constantly making lame jokes, which is annoying as hell.

This is so useful, I was fairly aimlessly hiding and sniping until now as the game only gives you minimal hand holding!
the gameplay visuals combined with commentary are really good cause i know some things in writing but i dont know how they actually look like , like shooting the granades of soldiers, i realized they have them up in the chest not the belt, i was thinking of those normal granades that are like lemon shape, or the mouse 3 button , i thought it changed pov so felt kind of useless until you mentioned its actually flipping sides left sided vs right sided , now i understand it and gonna use it more
Just started playing this game for the first time yesterday and its brilliant. cant believe i missed out on thsi for 5 years. Reminds me a little of a WWII version of Splinter Cell.

If you are in a bush or a few steps away from an enemy you can hit them with a rock and it will delay them from drawing their weapon on you also giving you a extra second to get close enough for a melee kill. Great video thank you for these tips.
A bit late on here but ' better late than never' I got SE2 3 and 4, love these British made games, on Steam with an Xbox controller, USB connected, in SE2 there is a tutorial at the beginning, so this taught me how to sneak around n shoot. But with any games, make mistakes and you learn. The tip you did miss was when in the bushes and having a dump be sure you are downwind.

Wow, it’s really cool how you can’t just sit in one spot and farm kills, you must actually move around or else they will find you. I heard once that a very important rule of a sniper is one shot they will hear you, and second shot they will see you.

I love the game but I had a problem that I don't know the game mechanics. Thanks to this I know critical mechanics so that I can think of better strategies. Thank you.
Wow i never knew the schedule roster item opened all the tagged enemies. I always wondered why i saw sometimes tagged enemies which i did not tag. Also a tip from me: Remember your suppressed ammo locations, they stick on the same places and we all love silenced gunshots, also use the grenates on the mob his body to do double or tripple kills. when they come together you have a perfect oppertunity. anotherone i always use is the trip /tnt combo. i always line up a trip explosive and makes this stronger with tnt for tanks. No way you miss the tank then.
I also have a question about the weapon upgrades, not on the load out, but in game, sometimes i see them unlocked and others are locked, is there a way to unlock them in game, i mean the weapons that are carried by mobs or finding in game like Greta..
I was a rank 50 before my game stopped working on my PS4, this is information I really wish I had when I was starting out

Great video. Thinking about revisiting 4 for awhile before taking on 5. Its been a bit and I’m out of practice. Probably won’t help, especially if the controls are significantly altered. But if nothing else it will help to get back into the mindset. Besides the fact that I really enjoyed 4 and am sure to enjoy it again!
