- Protesters managed to get uncomfortably close to New York City Mayor Eric Adams while he was giving a speech about the future of the city, including its iconic skyline.

Not wanting skyscrapers in Manhattan is stupid. This is Midtown East, it wouldn’t be housing, definitely not affordable housing ever. Push them to build affordable housing in another neighborhood.
I am glad that its not protestors regarding what is going on in the mid east we need affordable housing and its a waste giving that people are not going back to their offices and realtors are having a hard time finding tenants.

Under Mayor Adams, rent went up by 2 and 3 percent. Under Bill Deblasio, we had 4 rent freezes. I will never forget how Mayor Bill Deblasio saved New Yorkers.

How about do what Japan does and use sunshine requirements rather than arbitrary numbers based on pseudoscience. We don't need taller buildings, we need more missing middle housing like is common in many European cities.

@@chwistofa We can use a plot more efficiently if we did not waste land on car infrastructure. New York City's level of car ownership is comparable to many other European cities; less than 50% of all NYC residents own a car. Public transit is very good generally, the places public transit is bad (like Queens) are basically streetcar suburbs with the streetcars replaced by the buses that get stuck in traffic. There is a reason the now Los Angeles baseball team is called the "dodgers"; the streetcars were so frequent that Brooklyn residents had to dodge streetcars. People don't want to live in a skyscraper; people want to live in a decent size apartment, some have children, and others want front yards. The problem is the current zoning rules don't allow for any of that; a small percentage of land is actually zoned for mixed use that they all end up as skyscrapers, and the only homes suitable for families are large single family homes that you need a car to do everything in.
@@Awesome_Aasim Yeah sure I'm not saying the MTA is the worst thing ever but just does not cover the undeveloped areas you expect new housing to be built. The existing density surrounding stations are already there so why not allow developers to make them taller? I have no issues with keeping places like Riverdale or parts in queens suburban. The entire system could be improved in many ways; its very nuanced but just this 1 thing could help immensely I feel.

The biggest thing the MTA right now is thinking about for these inner ring suburbs is the Interborough Express - and instead of choosing a commuter railroad or a rapid transit line, they will be building light rail. I am not a big fan of these "cost cutting" measures because what that will invite next is cutting light rail and building bus rapid transit, and then buses getting stuck in traffic, and then getting the project cancelled. So much of Brooklyn and Queens and Staten Island needs transit that gives investors and developers the sense of permanence that got these inner ring suburbs developed almost a hundred years ago. The fact that we used to have them but don't anymore is kind of sad.
