I made.sloppy joes from scratch and was NOT a fan. We all grew up on Manwhich and I am pretty sure the original recipe has never changed..they do have a few other flavors but I love the original so much I haven't really been tempted to try any of them. I tried it with cheese on it, still prefer just from the can, not add ons. I do season my meat while cooking though. Just a bit of salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. Very glad you all enjoyed it..and little bit.there is adorable!!!💖💖
We used to put the meat & sauce on both buns. Now, my spouse and I just use the one side (sometimes adding cole slaw).. we also sometimes add other spice seasonings to the meat while cooking. You can put a pickle on the side too. That we eat separately from the Sloppy Joe. That’s a cool table.
4:45 professional lifelong American here, highly recommend buttering that bun sprinkling garlic powder, and then toasting it in the oven before putting the manwich on The texture change of not being fully toasted but just a little bit crisp will make all the difference in the world. When eating that sandwich it will hold together much better, as well as the garlic butter adding flavor
I still remember after 30 to 40 years that there was nothing better than using your potato chips to scoop up the excess that fell off your bun...the sweet and the salty was sooooo good
Yup. I still make it for my boys and they love it too. I add sweet onion and bacon into it. I pre-cook the bacon to the point where it's soft but crispy, THEN add it.
I still remember the old lunch lady at school who had a dog and would monitor what we were throwing out and grab stuff like partial sloppy joes and meat to take back home for her dog. She was the trash can police Woman
Sloppy Joes are just a quick, tasty, no fuss sort of sandwich. It is a popular staple food for school cafeterias in the US because you can make large vats of the Sloppy Joe mixture to feed 100s of students quickly. For me, this is a childhood "comfort food" that ranks right up there with Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup.
Oh I remember the schools always had the best sloppy joes. I don't know how they made it different but they were better at school than the ones we made at home. At least that was the way 40 years ago.
It needs onion green pepper garlic powder paprika a couple teaspoons of flour to tighten it up and I add a teaspoon of better than bouillon paste gives it a beefier taste.I personally don’t think manwich is very good find a good home made recipe it’ll be a lot better but adding all the stuff I wrote will to reduce it down alittle more so it’s not so runny but you want it to still stick together.Brian Lagerstrom has a great recipe on UA-cam.
When my dad made this when we were growing up, he would dice an onion and a green pepper that he would saute and mix into the Sloppy Joe mix with the ground beef. Brings back a lot of memories.
yes to the onions and peppers cooked with the meat and I would either add a slice of cheese to the sandwich or melt the cheese in the sloppy joe mix in the pan .
I think most people prepare sloppy Joes the same way by adding some diced onion and bell pepper unless of course they don't like the taste/ texture of onions/ bell pepper. I think the last time I made this for myself when I just wanted something nostalgic that was a childhood favorite. I also added a couple different types of fresh mushrooms and instead of using American cheese I used provolone cheese. I think I had used Italian rolls.
I usually put a splash of barbecue sauce into my sloppy Joe's, too. Besides the onion and green pepper. I often eat it with a slice of American cheese. And I have been know to eat it out of a bowl with a spoon. I don t usually use Manwuch . I use a packet of seasoning by McCormick and go from there.
Sloppy Joes got so popular because they were quick and easy to make for parents, and kids loved em. Plus, as a kid, the name is fun. So it sort of became a staple in families for that reason.
Now I’m craving Sloppy Joe’s. 🤤🤤🤤 I like to eat it with plain, thin potato chips. Sometimes on a bun or white bread, or sometimes just as a dip. It’s so good!
I add chopped onions and green peppers to sauté a few minutes before adding the "mince" and Manwich sauce. I also butter and toast the rolls in the oven and add cheese to each sandwich... "yummy yummy yummy" ~ Baby H❣️
I feel like sloppy Joes are as unique to each family as anything could be ..I put sliced mushrooms and bell peppers cooked down and a few gratings of sharp cheddar cheese changing the whole flavour profile
This is summer time as a kid, in a can. Cheap, easy and quick. Run inside eat and then run back out again. All in 10 min lol. Sloppy joes are a summertime essential for at home parents.
When Baby H kept saying "yummy, yummy, yummy!", I was like, oh yeah, she's definitely their child! And that's a total compliment, btw. :) PS. You should really try the Bold flavor next time; it's even better! :)
Love Sloppy Joe's. They are big with camping, cookouts, and easy kid's meals. Still love them as an adult. As far as I'm concerned the only acceptable condiments are a slice of cheese, onion, pepper, and/or mustard. But there are no rules. It's supposed to be sloppy. And you definitely clean up anything that falls on the plate with potato chips.
Indeed, makes an excellent base to create a meal around. Just like instant ramen or a quick pasta cook. So many ways to add to it and change it up. Or just use it as a dip with some corn chips or tater chips. ;)
They also make a tangier Bold version of Manwich sauce, which I like even BETTER. Quick and easy, and quite tasty. I literally have some Manwich in the fridge right now.
Can always add cheese to it, or potato chips on the side to help scoop up any loose meat. Just one of those simple & inexpensive family meals that brings back memories.
In grade school they used to serve these without the top bun and with a slice of cheese on top sealing the meat / sauce mixture to the bottom bun. They baked these just long enough to crisp up the bun and slightly melt the cheese. Still my favorite version.
Great video! When we have sloppy joes, we usually serve them open face. Put the split buns on a plate, add the sauce and eat with a fork. Still a sloppy joe without the sloppy.
My sloppy joe recipe: 1 lb ground beef 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon yellow mustard 3/4 cup ketchup 3 teaspoons brown sugar salt and pepper to taste Brown ground beef, onion, and green pepper in medium skillet over medium heat. Drain liquids. Stir in garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 min. Season with salt and pepper. Serve on hamburger buns. My kids and I do add a slice of cheese to our sloppy joe's. My husband prefers his without cheese.
“Manwich” is okay in a pinch (I’ve actually only had it a couple times)but homemade sloppy Joe’s are much tastier. Glad you tried them though. We make a giant batch of Turkey sloppy joes using ground Turkey (my SO doesn’t eat beef) we portion it up in freezer bags, freeze it and thaw some out when the mood for “joes” hits. Great with potato chips.
I like eating my sloppy Joe open faced. Also I just sauté onions and peppers with my ground beef, strain grease and add my favorite bbq sauce. Easy-peasy!
Open faced, yeah, that was the term I was going for. Our schools used to do it that way but I don’t recall the ratio of sauce that was applied. I. Sure no where near how much my mom used to put on them.
I'll use Manwich if I feel like making something quick & easy, but I like homemade sloppy joes better. My hubby calls them sloppy Tiffanys, because it never fails that some sauce will somehow end up on my shirt even if I'm careful. Lol. I look up recipes online for sloppy joes, so I don't have a set recipe. 😊👍. Lol, Elana is cracking me up. She really wanted more. 😂
When I buy Manwhich, I usually opt for the Bold version instead of the Original. It has even more flavor and peppers…….so tasty! You would definitely enjoy that one.
Baby H is really getting into the videos now, so adorable! 🥰 I add mustard and hot sauce to our manwich which to me seems too sweet, Adds a nice tang and heat to the taste. Glad you enjoyed it.
Can't wait for The H's to try Sloppy joe's. Now when I was younger my mother she had nine kids to feed so she would put beef barley vegetable soup and with the sloppy joe mix. She had to make the meal stretch back then.
We’ve actually started making our own sauce from a recipe my wife got from a friend. My wife will put cheese on hers and I just add some sliced onion. It’s a great simple quick meal.
When Sloppy Joe's first came out, it was seasoned ground beef, many put onions and peppers, a can of tomato soup, and you were done. Manwich came out many years later, and to be truthful I still think the original tastes better than the store bought kind.
CONGRATS ON 90K SUBSCRIBERS! I said it would happen today! Sloppy Joe's has many variations to its recipe and like meatloaf there is no right or wrong way of making them. I like a recipe that adds more mustard and has sautéed onions and garlic and a lot less brown sugar... if any. You can thicken the sauce by letting it reduce on the stove or add a slurry of cornstarch or flour and water slowly to the mix while cooking. There are a ton of different recipes you can google. Look at the ingredients to see what looks good to you.

Growing up, mom always made Sloppy Joes with the dry packet and tomato paste/sauce. They were never that messy because she'd put a heaping spoonful on each half of the bun (which had mayo on it, maybe a bit of ketchup) and served it with pork & beans, and potato salad or steak fries. A great and easy meal.
My Texan mom (I am 100% Texan) gave me her recipe that she called Texas Hash. I still make it now and then. It has two things in it that really ramps up the flavor. Those tow things are a can of Manwich sloppy joe mix (like you just used), and a can of Ranch Style Beans added to the other ingredients.
Yay, you liked them! I make my sauce from scratch, but don't have anything written down. 😄 A pound of cooked mince, enough ketchup to make it saucy, some French's mustard, a dash or three of hot sauce, a small glug of white or apple cider vinegar, a spoonful of brown sugar (depending on preference), and half a diced bell pepper, ditto a whole medium onion. Simmer until vegetables are soft, devour. Adjust as you want. I've debated about using tomato sauce and tomato paste instead of ketchup, but c'mon, it's supposed to be *fast*. And you'd need a lot more spices. ETA I love that desk! Congrats on a sponsor, too. I'd love a small one for my kitchen, because counters are always just that nth of an inch or two too high. Plus resting the phone or tablet to read a recipe (for electronics content).
Ketchup, BBQ Sauce, Spices and Onion and Pepper makes a really good Sloppy Joe. There's a brand of Chili Powder called Mexene that is really good and I have had dozens of different brands of chili powder. Chipotle Chili Powder along with Smoked Paprika and Kinders Smoked Garlic Seasoning makes a really good seasoning base for Goulash.
@@4nciite Sounds good! I've got some smoked paprika from Pennzey's I need to try out. No smoked garlic - regular granules, always 😄 - but I have ancho and cayenne, and a Rogan Josh blend. I'm not that big on really hot stuff, so I don't keep huge amounts on hand. But I'll happily eat General Tso's-level and so on, to a bit hotter. I make my own BBQ sauce, so that I can add to as I like.
I’ve used a few tablespoons of chunky salsa, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and vinegar…the kids couldn’t tell it wasn’t the canned stuff. I don’t measure anything, just did it by look/taste.
@@monicapdx I love curry, I havent tried making Rogan Josh yet, but I might now that you pointed it out. I like to use a little curry in my Spaghetti Sauce, but the real trick to a good sauce is achovy powder, I dont anchovies or fish, but Anchovy Powder is like adding crack to Spaghetti Sauce, it gives it a savory flavor that doesnt taste like fish, its better than MSG, although I have used both.
@@fergusscruffypants3025 Heh - that's how I cook too mostly, unless I'm trying something really new, or in another cuisine. Like Chinese dishes. Or replicating the Korean Bulgogi tacos with flour tortillas I had from one of our food trucks. They used hamburger, and it was amazing. So I looked up some recipes for Bulgogi Beef, marinated the hamburger, then kinda winged it from there. Tuned out equally amazing. Yay on fooling the kids!
Manwich is one of those things that you don't really miss until you try to make homemade. It IS, however, a tasty and very quick meal. I personally enjoy the cold leftovers the day after. Either on a bun or just get a sleeve of crackers and use the Manwich as a dip!
I pointed this out in the comments of your last video as examples of "American food on toast" with the warning that dishes in this category are "depression era" foods and are generally looked down on. Well, you will learn why we drink too much soda. Food this salty and acidic has to be washed by something equally stringent, and colas with phosphoruc acid certainly work. Milk was also commonly a dinner table beverage in the times when this meal reached peak popularity. Unlike most Depression era foods, Sloppy Joes have remained commercially viable. The quintessential meal in a can, though my mother made it fresh for us when I was young (1980's)
We always made ours from scratch. And we always toasted the bread. But we used hotdog buns a lot, because they're less messy, as long as you only split them on one side.
First of all, y'all's little girl is too cute!❤ Also, Mrs. H needs her own cooking channel. 😉 I've never liked those. It's probably because I had them in the school lunchroom. Lol I hope y'all are doing well.
Happened on to your channel. Love it. Sloppy joes definitely earned their name. Manwich has a specific taste that takes me back to my childhood as an American. As others have said, I always scraped up the scraps with potato chips. Lol
Last time I had one was for school lunch many years ago. This is not something I would choose to eat at home, but I am glad you had a chance to experience it.
The classic way to have sloppy joe's is on rolls but you can also put the meat/sauce on top of baked potatoes, French fries, pizza dough, biscuits, mac n' cheese or whatever you like. You can get creative with it. You might like to toast the bun. I like cheese like some on top as well. some folks add pickles. Not my favorite food but it is a very fast choice for a busy day
I dont like the canned Manwich, I prefer to get the pack of seasoning and make the sauce myself, it taste so much better. The canned Manwich taste to much like the tin it comes in. A slice of cheese melted on top makes it so much better. Also, eat it with a side of plain chip/crisps. You can scoop up the bits that drop with the chips.
I've loved to cook/bake since I was little. This was my 1st meal I made as a kid with mum's supervision. I usually add diced onions & peppers with the Manwich. Love you guys & your channel
I'm so glad that you tried these! And I hope you bought more than 1 can. Everyone in my family seems to eat theirs a little differently. My daughter likes to add Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce to hers. I like to add garlic, pepper & paprika to the meat. And sautéed onion & bell pepper and a slice or two of provolone on the sandwich. So it's all hot and melty. Yes, I'm weird but I also have Helmans or Blue plate on the buns. Son, thank goodness just eats anything. Oh, and eat with chip so you can scoop up whatever falls out. Love that y'all tried these.
I really like sloppy joes when they have a sweeter mayo-based coleslaw on them as well. It adds a different flavor profile and is really good. They're also good with cheese.
Used to eat these when I was a kid but I honestly don't know too many adults that still eat these. I haven't had one in at least 25 years. Loved them when I was in school. Always with cheese. ♥ Baby H just gets sweeter and sweeter as she grows. She loves her daddy and that makes him a big man in my eyes. Really love this channel. Every video makes me feel good. ♣
another Sloppy Joe variant i have made is what i called a "Clean Joseph" or "Tidy Joseph". i cut a small hole in the top of the roll, hollowed it out to make fairly thick walls, then poured the filling in through the top and replaced the lid. my girls loved it.
LOVED this!!! I have loved to see your channel grow and I always look forward to the cooking with H segments! Nowadays I also see less mess in that kitchen since Mrs. H took over that part…BLY you all! And many kisses to Elana!!!! She is TOO adorable!
Homemade sloppy joes are way better than Manwich. It was one of the first recipes I learned in home economics class in high school. And yes, that revelation dates me a bit since it's a class that isn't aught in many schools anymore, at least not like it was in the 80's and prior. It needs to be brought back.
My family likes to take the top burger buns and press indents into them to hold the meat sauce better, and basically eat it upside down. It’s really great!
Mrs. H your daughter is growing so fast enjoy every minute because time stops for no one. If you take your buns and cut them in half and then toast them in the oven. You will find it adds not only texture but some flavor.
Sloppy Joe are a beloved kid food memory. Dad was never overjoyed with them. Mom made them by adding ketchup + mustard + brown sugar+ onions+ and spices. Always served with tater tots. Absolute kid love. I add garlic & ground white pepper, or cayenne pepper, for a little kick to balance the sweet.
OMG. Baby H saying yummy throughout the video was absolutely adorable. As for Sloppy Joe's, I prefer get tomato sauce, yellow onions, and my own seasonings. As a kid sick, I got sick on Manwhich. So I now have to make my own sauce to mix with my ground beef.

We make a giant batch of Turkey sloppy joes using ground Turkey (my SO doesn’t eat beef) we portion it up in freezer bags, freeze it and thaw some out when the mood for “joes” hits. Great with potato chips.
A very deep pinch! 😂
The baby is growing so much. What a beautiful little girl. Loving the videos!
Grew up on this... My dad's homemade was insane....
Sloppy Joes are a classic - my friends and I straight-up devoured them as kids. Definitely a treat - messy and delicious.
Mr. H, you and the missus seem to be very nice people. But let's face it, Baby H is the star! We really need to see more of Baby H. She is so cute.
She already knows how to play to the camera!!! It’s not like they even have a CAMERAMAN there!
@@Ira88881 She's really good at it too. She's a natural.
I add a little chopped sweet bell pepper,, onion & some of your favorite bbq sauce..For a little less mess,, serve it in hot dog buns.
We like a bit of mustard on ours...Baby H is adorable! Enjoy the baby days! They go by so quickly!
You guys did it just right. Plain and simple. Liked the use of buns you went with too.
When I buy Manwhich, I usually opt for the Bold version instead of the Original. It has even more flavor and peppers…….so tasty! You would definitely enjoy that one.
Baby H is really getting into the videos now, so adorable! 🥰
I add mustard and hot sauce to our manwich which to me seems too sweet, Adds a nice tang and heat to the taste. Glad you enjoyed it.
Can't wait for The H's to try Sloppy joe's. Now when I was younger my mother she had nine kids to feed so she would put beef barley vegetable soup and with the sloppy joe mix. She had to make the meal stretch back then.
A sandwich is a sandwich, but a Manwich is a meal.
Wow, I just made my wife and I sloppy Joes today!! Lol must be an epidemic
Baby H is so ready😂😂😂 Super cute!!
You did John. Let's see what other predictions you get right. BLY ❤️
Oh and Thank you.

We love them.
We also make it up but then will boil pasta and mix in into the pasta like you would make spaghetti instead of eating on buns.
Homemade is SO much better! Baby H makes me happy! Such an adorable, cheerful little girl!
Sounds good. Mrs H 💕
I fondly remember sloppy joes from elementary and middle school. They’re good. They were on the menu once at week at school.
Diced onions, bell peppers, Ceyanne pepper for a kick. I make mine from scratch.
We love them here too. I'm on paleo right now so I can't eat bread but I loved it as a kid and my kids loved it growing up
Yay, you liked them!
I adore sloppy Joe's. I am so proud of you both for being so willing to try new foods!
Manwich is one of those things that you don't really miss until you try to make homemade. It IS, however, a tasty and very quick meal. I personally enjoy the cold leftovers the day after. Either on a bun or just get a sleeve of crackers and use the Manwich as a dip!
You're totally right; it's almost even better the next day!!
I love to use it with chips as a dip. You need a strong chip like ruffles or a kettle chip.
@@rachelsmith6900 Oooh, try it over nachos! It's amazing!
The cutest kid ever😊 🍻 from Arizona 🇺🇸
People drink pop and soda because they like it.
We always made ours from scratch. And we always toasted the bread. But we used hotdog buns a lot, because they're less messy, as long as you only split them on one side.
It’s actually healthyish and makes for a good quick meal the kids will enjoy. Goes great with plain potato chips.
My family loved sloppy joes. I would butter, then toast the buns under the broiler, and add pickle slices before serving. Potato chips on the side. ❤
First of all, y'all's little girl is too cute!❤ Also, Mrs. H needs her own cooking channel. 😉
I've never liked those.
Sloppy Joes are prime real estate for customization. They're good on their own but the add ins are what makes it YOURS.
Not my favorite food but it is a very fast choice for a busy day
I used to eat that when I was a kid. Quick and easy. Tasted good too.😀
I dont like the canned Manwich, I prefer to get the pack of seasoning and make the sauce myself, it taste so much better. The canned Manwich taste to much like the tin it comes in. A slice of cheese melted on top makes it so much better. Also, eat it with a side of plain chip/crisps. You can scoop up the bits that drop with the chips.
I’m with you but not all families can afford to make it like you and I do.
I've loved to cook/bake since I was little. This was my 1st meal I made as a kid with mum's supervision. I usually add diced onions & peppers with the Manwich.
Love you guys & your channel
I love sloppy joes. Not sure how good the can stuff is. I make all mine from scratch.
Me too!
Your child is so adorable. I enjoy watching your videos ❤️👍
Love that y'all tried these.
such a school meal that I miss and make sometimes!
I love them!
You should butter brown those buns in a skillet first!
There is always some kid left in us. Eat some and have some fun.
I have never had a Manwich. Only homemade sloppy joes for me
Saying that I havent had a sloppy joe in probably 20 years, since my kids were little.
another Sloppy Joe variant i have made is what i called a "Clean Joseph" or "Tidy Joseph". i cut a small hole in the top of the roll, hollowed it out to make fairly thick walls, then poured the filling in through the top and replaced the lid. my girls loved it.
Toasted buns are much better. I personally add mayo & cheese to the buns.... not mixed in. 😋🥰
LOVED this!!! I have loved to see your channel grow and I always look forward to the cooking with H segments! Nowadays I also see less mess in that kitchen since Mrs. H took over that part…BLY you all! And many kisses to Elana!!!! She is TOO adorable!
BLY ❤️
Homemade sloppy joes are way better than Manwich. It was one of the first recipes I learned in home economics class in high school. And yes, that revelation dates me a bit since it's a class that isn't aught in many schools anymore, at least not like it was in the 80's and prior. It needs to be brought back.
True. The school stopped teaching that class a year after I graduated from high school in 2005.
I grew up on this stuff...simple..but good!
Dice up some white or sweet yellow onions and toss it in...gold. (avoid red onions...they don't work in a sloppy joe)
yes! Adding pickles and cheese is always good on the sloppy joes!
She's talking. That won't ever get better. :)
That was my dinner tonight, along with some macaroni salad
I live in the USA. Homemade sloppy joes are my favorite , a bit sweeter than savory is how I make it. Your daughter is ADORABLE 💕
My family likes to take the top burger buns and press indents into them to hold the meat sauce better, and basically eat it upside down. It’s really great!
Luv the Brits.
I just saw a commercial on your video! Good for you all!
Mrs. H your daughter is growing so fast enjoy every minute because time stops for no one. If you take your buns and cut them in half and then toast them in the oven. You will find it adds not only texture but some flavor.
The Bohemian Rhapsody reference right after Baby H shouted "mama" was magnificent, bro.
