Izzy when you push east make sure to gift east osgiliath to Gondor so it auto rebuilds on unification of the kingdoms as Arnor/dunedain can only rebuild anuminas, fornost and west osgiliath
Just a warning, when you leave Aragorn in the Minas Tirith region for 1 turn you will lose the army of the dead, so you have to use them before, dont make the same mistake as me
It's interesting to see the different styles of fighting, I always mantain a clear straight front line with spears and blades holding the line while cav and horse archers are covering flanks harassing and doing rear and flank charges, while You move your units where they're needed, not bothering to mantain a homogenous front. Fun thing is that both styles work.
You know what's ironic, five years ago you did an Eriador campaign, and in that campaign five years ago you got the army of the dead in episode 25, whereas this series you got it episode 26, It's seems some things never change
Also (I'm warching the previous episode) is renown that keep order, not acumen. Acumen gives money. Consider switch ancillaries between general when you do stuff like orod meunion manuvers
In Orod Meuion, Perhaps have a few of those local units as a garrison? After all, they're free upkeep and certainly, Being able to get Meuion out of there is worth the cost of recruiting those units. Just a thought though. ( Edit: Now, 2 hours later i realize you won't have free upkeep for those units and would have to recruit them in a nearby settlement rather than Orod Meuion but if Meuion is a priority, then a sacrifice of having to put a likely extensive garrison in that settlement of his shouldn't be a problem)
Hello Izzy. I have a good suggestion for you. In the book the army of the dead passed trough the white mountains and sealed east with Aragorn and stuff. You should spawn the army of the dead troug the white mountains and go and defeat Sauron with them. And please train some Breeland units!!!
Yeah, slight thing about the ballista, they are designed to be essentially units to be designed as counter-batteries, to snipe enemy artillerty. As an effect of this: They are very accurate. While the catapults, or at least these ones are essentially as inaccurate as trebuchets As a side note, the wulf pikes might've not been performing well because they didn't have time to lower their pikes, and they weren't in guard mode, trust me, guard mode is what pikes are for. So the wulf swordsmen were able to get in close and do their thing.
Well that was interesting and informative. I had been thinking accrum was what provided public loyalty as well so could explain some of the problems I have getting some settlements secured. Also interesting to see the army of the dead. That is one hell of a powerful unit. Was assuming that as in the book [and film] you end up south of the mountain but staying in the north, while it means you can't support the forces faltering there but does enable you to restore MT sooner. Don't forget that AGO has 6 turns a year so to reunite the kingdoms you will need that many turns and popping over to liberate say W Osilgath, or other adjacent places might not count. Could [well] be wrong but as I understand it you can get Gondorian units in their settlements and similar for DA and can get core Dunedain units if the culture is high enough but that would need to be pretty high ~70%+ Which might be a problem given how quickly the AI can change culture as they get the old roads bonus as well as 'religious' buildings. Anyway looking forward to the next few rounds, including what happens if you manage to 'kill' Sauron's unit.
I might have an idea about your constant unrest problems. You see, in Rome total war the biggest factor that contributed to unrest was the bulding type diferences. For example: when you conquered a german settlement as a roman faction you get a lot of unrest because the buildings inside the city was german types and not roman types. So until you upgraded those buildings (then the higher tier building spawned as a roman type) or destroyed them, they constantly gave you unrest. I remember this works slightly differently in Medieval 2, I tried to figured out how exactly but I couldn't find a definitive answer, some claim it was removed entirely some claim it is still there but the values was tuned down. Anyway I though I should share this because you still have a suspiciously high amount of unrest in Orod Meuion and your bulidings are almost entirely goblin buildings in there. So it might have some connection between the unrest and the building types. And it makes sense logicaly, a proud Arnorian citizen should be really pissed off if he is forced to live in an ugly, smelly, goblin sized cave called a "city". But it is all just a theory, someone with more knowledge should correct me if i'm wrong.
When taking Edoras and you have the enemy on a hill I push the catapult inside right up behind my line and fire. That works really well shooting up on a hill. I pretty much don't use catapults unless I can get the enemy in a choke point and right up behind my line. All other times it leads to rage. :) Toddzerker
ARTILLERY TIPS: when catapults shoot on a moving target, they try to anticipate the movement, shooting in the point where they are supposed to go. So, if you use fire at will they often fire on the firts unit near, and if the enemy army is moving on you, lots of shots will miss, and you risk yourfrontline. Said that, i suggest yo shoot manually to the last unit by distance, most times the general, so that you'll shoot a lityle in front if them, hitting the crntre if the enemy forces, having more possibily to kill
Trolls are actually amazing because you can rush them past frontline infantry and just immediately shut down archers and Artillery because they have all that hp.
Izzy remember that you can use the army of the dead 3-4 times before they disappear. If an enemy army attacks them it will apply to that battle count. So make sure that you use them only in the most important battles. Overwhelming enemy numbers? Use them, 3-4 full enemy army stacks? Use them.
but I read somewhere before that it doesn't count if they are in a supporting army. Can't remember now, but if I recall, it did work for me, I'm speaking under correction, though.
I would say the Royal Guard are indeed among the best 3 cavalry units in the game. Knights of the Silver Swann are obviously the best, and the Arthedain Royal guard are a good second.
Really great content - the balance of narrative and strategic and tactical progression is massively entertaining! I'm feeling transported to my childhood's storytelling :-D. I finished your Dorwinion Campaingn - which was brilliant too. I have a question regarding ressurection of a faction. Eventhough Rohan didn't have settlements, there was a fort at Edoras, that still carried the green Rohan flag! And since you normally can initiate diplomacy with empty forts, maybe a faction isn't dead untill their forts a gone too?
Thank you Thomas, that makes me really happy to read that! Rohan was still holding on to Helm's Deep, so they always had one settlement. If a faction runs out of family members or settlements they are killed off and can't be revived. Forts turn rebel if I'm not mistaken.
@@IzzyTotalWar - ahh, make sense that there must be an actual living familymember of the faction and not just a piece of land not yet taken over. - did some backtracking too and you are right, the forts at least doesnt stay Rohirim. It simply seemed that way, untill fow was removed when when you actually took Edoras. Nice example of tactical map information :-). Have a good day :-)

You should 100% use the army of the dead to fight Sauron it would be super thematically perfect. They would be upholding their oath they way it was meant to be held.
Don't feel the need to rush through turns. Take a turn to get your agents/armies in order and you have a decent enough training regimen now that you can spend a few turns building economic stuff.
Izzy if you ever do visit New Zealand make sure you visit Hobbiton that where my mums from and I tell her all the time that the reason I'm not as tall as my dad 6'4ft is because her Hobbit genes are holding me back. Ps thanks for remembering my reminder about demolishing orc infrastructure.

Nice to hear that you're safe from the waterproblems. Hear that here in the Netherlands they expect it to calm down this week, so hope it'll also be the case in Belguim. Happy to see you finally got the Army of the Dead. Use them wisely :P But I think you'll get trouble with the Isengard stack, cause probably the AI has a general in the last remaining settlement of Isengard in Enedwaith (Carras?), so taking the Foldburg and Isengard won't wipe them out. Reuniting the Kingdoms is getting very close now! Looking forward to that, and don't worry about Gondor yet, may Ethring fall, another Gondor stack appears, so that will stop Mordor for a moment. PS: Will you finish the 1212AD campaign, or do you consider it completed?
If you could, I'd like to see Gandalf and Halbarad fight under Aragorn against Sauron if possible. I feel like against the Dark Lord himself, Aragorn would want his closest friends and subordinates with him. Also send those elite Arnor troops to Aragorn, they should totally be with him when they retake the white city. A Reunion for the ages between Gondor and Arnor.
