Shay needs to work on his interview skills. Gary just poured his heart out and told such a traumatic story and Shay just blew right past it with an irrelevant question. 😩 I hope Gary can find peace one day. 😢
Or he tries to keep the balance so emotional doesn’t go to far. Some people laugh to try and change the tune.
It was like he didn't even hear a word Gary said. Even Gary was thinking Shannon would have a better response, than just moving onto the next question. He could have said sorry to hear that man, hopefully you and your family can work things out.
This is a conversation, not an interview. He couldn't let Gary get to emotional, it would ruin the conversation.

I served in both the navy and the army ( tho not at the same time-LOL ) had fun in both branches,but,really doubled down in the army-LOL. Was enlisted dating female,army officers ( 1st & 2nd Lts ) just never got caught. LOL. Was messing around with my female,platoon sgt ( she was an E-7 and I was a E-5 at that time ) while I was stationed in Korea,we were both single tho. For some reason folks in the army really liked me,don't know why,but,I guess because I very charming,charismatic and made people laugh,a lot. But,because I was fairly popular and charmed the ladies,had a lot of male haters,shouldn't have been surprised tho. Learned these skills while living in a bad-HOOD-in Philly,made all the drug dealer laugh,whenever I saw them,because you can't be angry and laugh at the same time.Endorphins are released when you laugh,get the picture,so I did the same in the military.

@@Disco-xy4nz You are wrong. Gary is wrong. I'm not saying his stepfather wasn't a bad person. I'm saying his stepfather would have only had an affect on him because his mother allowed it. If she removed the stepfather from the equation, that part of Gary's life would have clearly been different.
So, again, his mother was the worst person in his life...for allowing the stepfather to affect Gary in such a way.

The title is misleading. Gary never compared his trauma he just said his was worse than how Eminem’s was portrayed on 8mile the movie. Mainly because of an abusive step father.

I am a Gary Owens fan. I just love how he keeps it real and he doesn't sugar coat things as painful as they must be for him. I am sorry things aren't working out between you and your children. They don't realize how short life can be and how quickly time flees. I sometimes wish my dad would have tried to be there for me or just be a part of my life. Parents are important ..having great leadership/managers early in life is so important. It really can make a difference. I am speaking from experience.

😳 This interview helped me understand how interesting Gary was. I never knew.
He asked if his upbringing was anything like the CHARACTER Eminem played in 8 mile. The movie is loosely based on Eminem’s life but it isn’t a direct representation of what occurred.
