    I have 3 kids and needed a 4door with some handling and great performance so I bought the Chevy SS (Aussie's SSV) with the 6 speed manual. I love the car. It is a rare car here in the US, but man is it a fun car. SO happy with it. Big car, dad's car, with lots of grip, braking and speed. Mine is a 2015 and plan on keeping it forever. RIP Commodore, you will be missed.

      paid 55k for my redline ,2016 with 2500ks on it ,you get 40 kws more plus magnetic ride for the r8 new for 30 grand more or so. would love it but redline is so good ,and apart from the suspension(which feels bloody good anyway)you can upgrade through after market for way less for bigger results

    • @MikeBobpokie

      yeah I think they get the r8 in a vf2 shell,am jealous of you though , may upgrade power down the road but seriously , the handling is exceptional ,cant imagine what the magnetic ride feels like

    Had Redline over a year and kids like the huge amount of room in the back, and didn't like 2 door Mustang. The car overtakes big trucks on steep hills fast and no body roll like the Prado that made everyone car sick. I find it sports car enough for me, plus it is a good family car too. The old pushrod unstressed engine is going to outlast any high stress turbo small displacement engine any day.

      Nice work shamus the Mustangs a pile of shit with a pissweak 2 star safety rating.

      You’d have to be a complete dickhead if you have kids and you buy a 2 door mustang and make kids sit in the back because you think a 2 door car is cooler. My kids love the comfort of the Commodore and sunroof helps with car sickness. I owned a R51 Pathfinder and it made one of my children badly car sick too.

    Another nice vid. I'm absolutely in love with this car. When I turn it on it feels like Christmas every time. Having a 4 door muscle car like this with manual transmission almost feels criminal.

      IKR? Sadly I only had one (rented) for the week, but I couldn't not smile each time I hit the start button. I'm convinced a team of Holden engineers must have spent weeks tweaking the ECU just to give that beautiful roar and burble every time you start the car. I'd love to own one myself someday!

      Never had a V8 before so I decided to go all out and get one before they run out. Well I ordered 2, one for the wife and one for myself. After driving all weekend with the wife doing time trials up to Mt. Tasie (Vic) I went to the dealer and said you better get me 2 of these or I will never get to drive it. The wife has taken delivery of hers and I was right, I never get to drive it. Take delivery of mine July 17 and can't wait. Loved the manual to drive, but ordered the auto. Wanted remote start. Nice review.

    I know they’re out of production, but for potential used buyers: just go get one! 😁 I have had the US variant (an SS-V Redline plus adjustable mag-ride shocks) for nearing 3 years now. Mine also has the Tremec mix-your-own ‘box in the middle. 👌 Every shift is practice, every drive and situation is different and engaging.
    Practicality? Yes. Wife plus special needs kiddo (“special needs” = plenty of medical equipment). She loves the space, kiddo is comfortable, and the boot swallows all of our normal family stuff + the extra medical gear. I use it for commuting down 30 miles of mountain road, so it’s a blast every day set to “sport” or “performance” mode. Yet it’s equally at home on weekends in “Tour” mode with the family all loaded up, racking up miles on a road trip. Have had three adults with their luggage plus kiddo and all his gear, and we all had a comfortable 2-hour drive to our destination after I picked everyone up from the airport.
    This is as close to a do-it-all car for the twisting road enthusiast as you’re going to get. Half the price of an M5 (plus more reliable), handles better than a Charger (~400 lbs lighter, stiffer chassis, better suspension), more practical than a Mustang, with the sporting capabilities of the Camaro built in underneath. If you wanna go wheeling, get a wheeler. If you want a sports car that also does family duty without breaking a sweat, so find a lightly used and well cared for VF2 SS-V Redline (or if you’re in the States, a Chevy SS sedan)

    I own an AMG GLE Coupe that can do 0-100km/h in 3.1 sec (with work done to the engine obviously) but I would take my redline over the MG any day of the week... Now thats saying something!

    Great review. I purchased my Redline for the exact reasons you specified - an enthusiast who wants to feel connected with the engine but still has a family to tote around. I live in Sydney (another Kiwi in Sydney..) and it's not even that much of a nuisance driving a manual in traffic, as the reason you buy one of these in manual is the enjoyment of going through the gear changes! I originally wanted to put the Walkinshaw kit on it (W375), but it really doesn't need it. How much power do you need..

      I got the auto, redline vf2 in Jan, and already have but 45000km in it. I knew I was going to 'live' in the thing, and have done similiar km's in other manuals in the past. I'm not sorry, this is the best car I have ever had, I got out of an M5 for this and I have not a single regret. Service costs are less are about 250 every 150,000 whereas the M5 was horrendeous and it needed new turbos after 150000km. Fuel use? originally it was around 16L/100km but it (or maybe me) has settled down to a respectable 13L/100km . I don't feel like I have 'less control' or connection using the torque converters flappy paddles, and love the luxury of not having to change gears when i'm in city traffic. I took it to a track day, and can imagine that's where having the manual begins to make a bit more sense - but I'm not sorry, and cannot imagine anyone who gets either version will be sorry they did so. As for the W375 pack - I drove one and it kind of makes the gear box completely redundant. you can overtake anything in 6th gear with that thing.

    • @BullyHayes1977
      @BullyHayes1977 6 років тому

      w375 kit is very expensive - you pay a lot for the branding i think. also the exhaust they use hangs lower than many others and reduces ground clearance quite a bit.

    • @BullyHayes1977
      @BullyHayes1977 6 років тому

      an intake, tune and exhaust like the w375 package certainly improves the engine response to the right pedal - can also clean up tyour fuel economy significantly - after i did mine, fuel use came down a lot - to the point where i was mid- 10's if driving smoothly on the open road.
      adding a more aggressive cam shaft is what makes these engines really come alive - giving well over 300kw at the wheels and extending the power band north of 6000rpm

    I would have to go with a Auto, because living in Dallas with the amount of traffic would be death with a manual. Either way is sweet. Those seats look better than the ones over here in the U.S. nice review sir.

    I have the Ute version of the Redline and love it. I chose auto because it's got the shifter paddles on the steering wheel which I find more practical for every day driving. 12 liters per 100 km isn't bad either.

    How did you find the clutch in the redline? I took a manual for a drive and found the clutch engages very quickly from the floor and the clutch to be very springy and push up your leg. It took me ages to get the hang of it and actually be smooth rather than causing whiplash to my passengers (I'm used to a 5.7L Man in the VZ) but it in the end I ticked the manual box on my order, so now have a manual SSV Redline on its way. I hope I went the right way by picking the manual over the auto.

    • @BullyHayes1977
      @BullyHayes1977 6 років тому

      i didnt like the clutch on the test drive either - too much 'springy-ness' - with almost like a hump in the middle. after a few weeks of ownership ive gotten used to it and dont even notice anymore.

    Please come on General Motors USA, start building these Redline beautiful VF style V8 SS Commodores again to import into Australia for the Aussie V8 Holden fans, now you have closed down Holden forever in Australia. Even if you call them Chevrolet SS Novas or whatever. We Aussie miss the V8 Holden SS Commodores, to buy new from the showroom in Australia, now we've lost General Motors Holden. We have the V8 Ford Mustang to buy, so why not make again the Redline V8 SS Commodore, I'm sure they would still sell out, like they all used to back in 2017, when the last Commodores were built like the Redline SS, just before Holden Left Australia.

    Any difference between the VF1 and VF2?

    • @CarNutvideos
      @CarNutvideos  5 років тому

      Hi Philip. I think the main think you’d need to be mindful of when looking at V8 Commodores is the move to the LS3 6.2-litre engine in the VF2 after the 6.0-litre L76//L98/L77 used in the VE model cars. The LS3 of the VF2 is much livelier than the 6-litre and gives the SS-V a more visceral performance. Naturally, the VF and VF2 enjoy some trim, equipment and chassis upgrades over the earlier cars but the VE was already a really well-sorted platform. I had an SV6 Sportwagon VE before my VF2 Redline and that wagon was a great car in its own right. Cheers for watching Philip.

      Yep I'm not convinced other than purely collectability that you wouldn't grab the VF2 Redline. There's plenty of power to be unleashed with a few mods (air intake, headers, ECU tune) to the tune of nearly 100kw. I'd argue you're getting near the limits of what you can use in RWD in most scenarios.

      Whats silly about holden is the claim that it produces 304kw. I bought a 2014 ssv with the older L77 engine, they claimed it has 270kw. Stick it on a dyno and it produces 220kw. The newer LS3 engine on a dyno produces 225kw. Hardly 304kw and only 5kw more than the older 6litre engine. Awesome cars but why the bullshit with the numbers?

    • @BL0HARD
      @BL0HARD 6 років тому +1

      I own a Red 2016 Redline manual. The paint is excellent (I’ve worked in the paint shop first hand at Holden’s as a electrician around 2000 when they done a upgrade over Christmas one year adding spray robots and remember how the place was fully pressurised and you had to wear lint free overalls and no silicone was allowed near the place. The Holden paint shop was a world class facility.)
      Leather on the seats is good too. The boot is activated either with a button above drivers side speaker or with button on key fob and has gas struts and mechanical hinges that don’t impede on luggage space like previous generation Commodores that used gooseneck hinges. Tyres are soft Bridgestone Potenzers which are costly to replace.
      I’ve watched this review a number of times, it is a really good tribute to the car and highlights the virtues of the manual over the auto version (which I’ve also owned in series 1 6.0 litre guise).
      The car is basic - 6.2L LS3 304kw up front, Tremec TR- 6060 in the middle, LSD at the back. 5 comfortable seats with a transmission tunnel running through the middle of the car. Brembo brakes each corner, a ageing infotainment system , sensors used for blind spot monitoring and cross traffic also help automatically reverse parallel and reverse perpendicular park the car.
      Car drinks 95 octane at a rate of 15L/100 in built up areas, can get 11L/100 in country driving. My average is 13.8L/100km.
