Liam's Map ran a terrific race but this video show so much of what frustrates me about what has been happening in horse racing. This horse is four years old and has only run 8 times (6 wins, 2 second), but now it's being retired to stud. This horse is only known to the hardcore fans, it has no recognition in the general public. Compare this to what they do in Japan, 2008 and 2009 Horse of the Year Vodka (M) ran from 2 to 6 years of age, 26 races; Buena Vista (M) 2010 HOTY raced from 2-5, 23 races; 2011 HOTY Orfevre (H) Triple Crown winner, races from 2-5, 21 races; 2012 and 2014 HOTY Gentildonna (M), Fillies' Triple Crown winner, raced from 2-5, 19 races; 2013 HOTY Lord Kanaloa, raced from 2-5, 19 races. Liam's Map should be heading for next year's Met Mile, but instead he's gone, mostly unnoticed. The owners may make their money, but the sport is being hurt again.
While this was not a very strong field Liam's Map ran a monster race to overcome as much trouble as he did and win it like a champion. Credit also goes to Javier Castellano for not panicking when he found himself in an unusual position throughout much of the race. Great horse and a great ride!
Smart move on the part of Pletcher to point for the BC Dirt Mile instead of the BC Classic with Liam's Map. If he ran anything close to what he was capable of, a win in this race was a near certainty. But going 10f in the BC Classic against the kind of horses that were in that field, a win or even a place in that spot would've been anything but, IMO.

There were only two horses in that race capable of beating him once Beholder exited. This was a chickens*t move.
Freaky performance, considering how out of his game he was taken.
GIVE ME LIAM'S MAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
