WoW! I've missed SO much!! Just watched a video explaining about Sons of the Sea being a separate band and just the past few days experiencing Brandon's solo stuff too and I'm just beyond thankful to be able to submerge back into all this musical artistry but I'm also overwhelmed by how much it seems I've missed out on the past decade! (Realizing as I'm listening that it was Meant to be this way though! ✨💞✨) I hope whoever is reading this is having a great day and if not tomorrow is your opportunity for a better one! I pray it's great!
... Too many times Artists do not realize how talented they are, and I am so glad Brandon Boyd had the courage to share his private Art through not just his music but also his paintings, books, showings, street Art,and music he created on his own. Beautiful man
I guess maybe it's safe to say to not expect new recordings from Incubus anytime soon. If you really look back into the life of this band, the records, the tours, they've been at it for a long time now. The S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album came out 17 years ago, think about it. As much as I'd love to see Incubus continue their creative work, I can understand where Brandon and the guys would want to explore new possibilities with their success as one of the most important bands of this generation. I've heard the new Sons of the Sea album and I do dig it, as pop as Brandon really is without the guys.. lol he's right.
I just hope that Incubus will continue making perfect songs, i'm afraid that they'll break up due to Brandon's choice, Incubus really is my favorite band ): on the other side, i really wish you good luck with Sons of the Sea, Brandon (:
It's sad that on every Incubus related video, you have a crop of so-called "fans" who do not understand for the life of them that through the years, the solo projects and other endeavors, Incubus has never stayed them same, changing their sound on every album. They never stop to compare Morning View to A Crow Left of Murder or Light Grenades to If Not Now, When? Instead, they want Incubus to go back to their "older sound," meaning to make a record like Science over and over again. They call the members "pretentious" when they dare to try something new. For a band that changes so much, there are way too many "fans" who expect them to change so much that they demand that Incubus "goes back" to making another Science. If that's not a pretentious attitude, I don't know what is.
agreed. but a worse scenario is if incubus did create another SCIENCE like album. fans would go rage and complain that its repetitive and other shit like that. tsk, sad world.
April Trevino That is all they have been doing since 2012, dude. Brandon just surfs all the time. They did South America for a little bit then surfed some more, and now Brandon is focusing more on his solo stuff AGAIN.
So let it be. They've said in an interview that they're not like others, poppin out album after album. When they feel they're ready, they'll release another one. Meanwhile we just have to soak nostalgically in what they've given us already.
April Trevino Regardless of what they've said in an interview, my original point about them beginning to resemble Tool still stands. It wasn't an insult. Back in the day, it was every two years like clockwork they would come out with an album. 97, then 99, then late 01, then early 04, then after 'Light Grenades' came out in 06, we hadn't gotten another album from them for five years. What we DID get was If 'Not Now When,' which wasn't really that good anyway. So you see, when you are used to getting a full length album every two years where every single song is good, these days appear to be quite a frustrating drought.
I didn't take your comment as an insult. Yes, we get impatient and want to hear more from them. But all I'm saying is complaining about how long they take or the style they're coming up with is not going to make any difference, so why bother? Just go with it, be patient and listen to something else while you're waiting. And when they do release something new, don't be surprised if you don't like it. The best thing about this band is they don't try to please their audience, they don't do it for fame. They just love what they do whether people listen or not.
It's suicidal when members of important bands do their solo projects and want to quit their original bands. Especially this... I do not like Pop music. I like something with more meaning to it, with a little more edge. "If Not Now, When?" is a weak album in my most honest opinion (being that I grew up with with the Jazz-y, Hard-rock Incubus in the late '90s,) so I support Brandon's idea of taking a break to fulfill their musical egos to then get together and maybe write something a little heavier... maybe something that sounds like A Crowd Left of the Murder? That would do it for me.
Their last album was in fact a little weak. Not just saying that because it was "slower." I'd like them to get back to form with the more SCIENCE/Make Yourself and even Morning View hard sound. A Crow Left of the Murder was overall bad in my opinion, and goes to show that even when replacing one incredible musician with another that there's going to be growing pains in musical writing as a band. Light Grenades was pretty solid, minus Boyd's strangely more tenored voice and frequent falsettos. Alot of Sons of the Sea songs are pretty good. It'd be cool to maybe see Incubus do "lady black" and perhaps some Ben Kenney solo stuff.
Chris Daron It's all just a matter of opinion. I dont think Incubus is sitting around thinking, man that dude is gonna call me a sell out, if I write a slower, more meaningful song. It is called GROWING. Would you rather them write the same song over and over, but just change the words, like Nickleback or some other poseur band. Incubus is all original, and every band in the world is a sell out if you look around!
i feel like people say "i miss the old incubus sound" just to be fucking hipster and its really annoying. incubus has always had their own sound and just because it doesnt stay the same every damn album, doesnt mean anything except that fact that they're musical geniuses and are too good to stay the same. everytime an incubus song comes on, you know its incubus. wtf do people mean by 'they lost their sound' basic idiots lol
They used to be so damn good, untouchable. The second they got rid of dirk they went into a complete and utter tailspin.. They lost their base(literally and figuratively haha) and they did everything they could to recapture that magic. It was never the same then they got extremely "out there" and tried to pass it off as art. Could Brandon get any more pretentious? Yup, just did with this...
With 5 million fans and growing on Facebook, I don't think they lost their base literally. I could argue against that figuratively too, but here's what I don't understand-Dirk left the band over 10 years ago and fans like you still take the time out of your day to bitch out Incubus on social media. You try to pass off what you do as a valid criticism, but instead you sound a little bit obsessive by lamenting over something that happened over ten years ago. By bitching, you're not going to change anything. You're not going to bring Dirk back. You're not going to convince Incubus to write more songs like Science. Dirk has moved on to other musical endeavors and Ben Kenney has nothing but praise for him. It's time for you to move on too. And for the record, Incubus has always been "out there," as they have changed their sound on every CD. It's only fans like you who never figured that out. As much of a Dirk Lance fan as you claim to be, you should know that even with him, they changed their sound on CDs with him. Compare Morning View to Science or Make Yourself. The sound has always been different.
Tristan M. You said it. Incubus is known for their strange and constant-changing styles. They can't be put into one genre, they love experimenting with all kinds of music. All anyone can do as a fan is pick their favorite album/s and appreciate the messages they still send out. Their older music captured us all, but I still love them as a whole for being humble and true.
Agreed on the comments that it's sad to see such artistic and successful bands "take a break" or go their own ways and they make such boring music as individuals. Once Incubus lost Dirk Lance they started going downhill. SCIENCE will always be my favorite. Oh how I loved Incubus.

You grow and mature as a person and you change. Your music does the same.
a band's hiatus or its member's solo projects have never been explained so rationally and eloquently like this. what a character beyond talent he is.

"Another incubus record" That was good to hear. I miss the older incubus but I don't think they will have that sound again :/
Clearly, that's a 'Nope'!
Love it! Just a goddamn perfect circle!
I could see them going into future horizons as a whole. It's going to be very hard to top 'If not now when?' That's their best album to date.
Bring Sons Of The Sea to England please!! Need to see them live
I just hope that Incubus will continue making perfect songs, i'm afraid that they'll break up due to Brandon's choice, Incubus really is my favorite band ): on the other side, i really wish you good luck with Sons of the Sea, Brandon (:
thank you for answering ALL my questions
Loved him since that kiss.

Good Interview
2 weeks and this video has no dislikes... let's keep it that way!
new incubus album plez
Ken Prier 7 days left
Your mind always seems well positioned to me. I bet you could help Jim Carrey with his current state of mind.
I wonder how long it will be until they begin recording another album. They're turning into Tool with their long absences from record releases.
Let them live their life too. Music is what they are, but they need time for themselves.

this may come as news to you but Brandon isn't on this earth to please you
Yeah, thanks for breaking my little bubble, douche ;)

***** It sucks to be born as a Rock band and turn Pop later. That's not being open-minded.. that's being a SELL-OUT.
Chris Daron

Ahhh, come to Europe!...hehe
The best album is a crow left to murder..they need to go back to there roots
They should have never gotten rid of their original bass player. Their music has never been the same since he left. They might as well break up.
ur dumb
adamhicks24

All I wanna say is that Ben Kenney is a beast on bass and Crow Left of the Murder is amazing.
David Ritchie Definitely

this is only your opinion. thanks for sharing it but don't act like its a fact. Lots of people love this stuff. The world doesn't revolve around you.
