Nasties lurking beneath the surface, thank goodness we have specialised companies like yourselves dealing with these issues, and above all taking the time to make these informative videos, thank you.
These are very interesting videos. These would have been interesting to have and viewed at the school that I received my A&P certificates. Seeing it has a much stronger effect on you then reading about it. Thanks for the videos.
Great example of intergranular corrosion , This is often bogged up and covered with primer to sell to the next sucker. That's when you pull out the razor blade and start cutting.
So this would not ordinarily be visible in a routine pre-buy for a cherokee 140/180? Ive wanted to buy vs rent but am scared stiff of getting stuck like this
No, in a typical PA-28 prebuy inspection, you would not drain and remove the fuel tanks for inspection of this area of the spar. However, you can ask for it to be done, expect extra cost though to perform the SB.
once surface corrosion has been removed from the spar, wich corrosion inhibitor brand would you recommend? and thank you for all your very helpful videos, suscribed and liked.
I found that piper cheated on wing fitting by cutting corners On spar fitting by not following ndustry stds and FAA stds of drill ing holes too close tonedge of spar fittingas the piper that lOstwing it clearly SHWos&7/16" for edge of bolt hoe to rounded sedge of fittig >too clos e and it failed .I am pursuing stc to modify pipers to precliude spar failure John Dyke AP1410799/iA ,PE,ac designer
Could you have said service bulletin one zero zero six anymore times? That was quite annoying. It's a freaking 3-minute video. I'm pretty sure that whoever is watching will remember that it is regarding service bulletin one zero zero six!

I'm not even a pilot, but the expression "wing spar corrosion" gives me the heebie-jeebies!
Thanks for posting!
@Wells Benton Yeah, thanks for the "pro tip". What the fuck does that have to do with aircraft wing spars?

Thanks for the videos.
Thanks a lot for showing this example. Very helpful!
wow...that wing is history. Great vid.

Are there no inspection panels aft the spar so that you catch that during an normal annual?
1:55 OK man, that's scarier than anything you'll see in any horror movie!
Thanks Roy I’ll have mine checked out
Can't find Dinitrol AV8 to spray on the affected area, can I use another corrosion treatment if it has the same Mil Spec?
How lucky for me I saw this, I am going to look at buying an Arrow tomorrow.

other question for ac components .Are all piper using same spar fittingand spar extrusion ?If so allover 140 are too weak j dyke
thanks. what is the repair action for that wing spar? Can it be repaired or does it need replacement?
frankus54 Extruded spars can not be repaired. The most economical path would be to find a serviceable replacement wing.
frankus54
1-Reinstall forward fuel cell.
2-Light plane on fire.
3-Collect insurance.
Liked and subscribed.great video.
thanks for this video. I am looking for dimensions of longerons and rear rear bulkhead
Lovin these videos. Thanks!
Yep that spar was toast.
Have you see some time at a fixed gear?
excellent video
so to summarise 2:50 , if your wings dont fall off your wheels will.
that cant be fun.
Piper should be liable for repars for inadequate corrosion protection. But they are barely surving.
After 18 years, the manufacturer is not liable.
Thanks
Great when you can stand and look at one that hasn't been crashed......accident waiting in hiding
No grinding and priming of THAT spar!
That sucker looks so corroded, it's barely good for recycling into beer cans
Intergranular.... unserviceable

wtf???
Wow, that spar is junk now.
Looks like Pipers are a coin toss depending on where the aircraft has lived all its life....
An example of why I hate to see pp's putting families/friends into their old airplanes .
You are not very knowledgeable on aircraft maintenance are you? . . .
Its usually the private pilots actions that kill friends and family ,not the airplaned mechanical failure.
Statistics dont lie
