@@Mushyloni i feel like the problem is all the healer guides that say "if ur not healing you HAVE to be dpsing and also fuck you if you don't, bad healer if not dpsing" etc. ive only just started whm and i watched/read some guides. it took me some time to realize that no one is actually going to lynch me for focusing on healing like, y'know, a healer should. obvoiusly thats not the only issue. but that was the main problem for me as i progressed :p

As much as I hate to say this since I play as a healer and a tank, you shouldn't give commendations to anyone just because of their role. Not at least until the mentor system gets fixed to have more discerning qualifications.
Yeah I play all 3 roles and you tend to commend healers more because you get to see their contributions directly. Sadly the only way to see if DPS are contributing well is to use ACT, but while SE allows us to use it, we're not allowed to talk about it or share any data from it.

I like to try and foster that kind of behaviour from other players. They could be doing the worst DPS ever, but since I don't use addons I wouldn't know =D

@@jengogonar Was doing ifrit extreme last night and the paladin was doing amazing with already 5 stacks of debuff yelling for the other tank to switch (mind you at this point I'm healing him but it's not too crazy yet) but the other tank was halfway across the map attacking the nails (wtf??)... then finally realizes it last minute, does not use any cooldowns, and die in 2 seconds >_
As a DRG main I do love the "floor tank" meme. I will say that those days are, honestly, past now. We're extremely mobile and resilient currently. I even told a sprout healer who was having trouble specifically not to heal me on a run since I could pretty much take care of myself in that regard and the tank was one of those uncommunicative zerg runners who didn't bother to notice that the healer was at level with the dungeon and a sprout.

Whats worse is when the tank doesn't pull aggro well enough and the enemies home in on my fragile healer body and I have to start running away and interrupt my casting so that I don't get taken out by every enemy that *knows* the healer is fresh meat

I picked up dragoon like a week ago and am almost always the last one alive if we end up wiping. Otherwise I'm fine. Literally once have a fucked up elusive jump and got myself killed.
Some people don't realize we Dragoons have skills we can pop where we do Damage to recover our Hp by a significant amount in our rotation kit, if we know we can't make it out an AOE in time he'll just pop it and get the hp back but healers start to freak out and spam heal. Some of us DRG's know what we're doing.
Bloodbath is op. I managed to survive big pulsl when tank died by using bloodbath with the AOE combo and it sustained me. I mean, with the oGCDs too. For big pulls it's not possible to sustain with GCDs alone.
Some of you maybe know it, but not all and that is the problem. Thats why there are macros to announce things as example since it's just a good way of communicating that you know what you're doing.
As a BLM main, everyone that doesn’t know what’s going on or how to do the next mechanic in raids usually runs in my general direction. That’s because I know exactly where the aoes will drop! That goes without saying the countless times I’ve died learning mechanics, while refusing to get out of my leylines chair…
I used to play very minmax with BLM until I started savage and it lowered my self esteem so hard that I went to main Red Mage. BLM mains in Savage have my respect.
As fellow BLM main I know the feeling of camping in our "sparkly circle of Doom" but I agree with you: you have to dodge the mechanics (teleport skills)...you can still contribute to the dps while moving we have instant cast spells and skill traits just for that purpose...

Adding in when you have the tank who insists on doing wall to wall pulls and is massively under geared. Like running a level 79 dungeon with gear from level 70 or lower. Then not understanding why you need to pop benediction a fraction of a second into the fight

I like how the healer is being left behind by almost the entire party, as a healer myself I can guarantee this is accurate af. it usually happens when there's a tank that thinks they can tank without a healer (aka the one's that can't survive a second without the healer), or a DPS that enjoys the idea of pulling. ps. if anyone reading this is a DPS, as a healer, please don't pull, we have a tank for a reason.

As a WHM, I've never really had any problems with DPS party members. The BIGGEST irks or problems I've had is when the tank decides to run too far ahead without me or pull too many enemies and then blames me for not out-healing the insane amount of damage he's taking.
The amount of bloody tanks I've had do this. I've had friends quit because if tanks like that. Thank god I'm not alone in that. Granted as astr I can kinda heal while moving, but immortality is not a tanks thing. Thankfully at level 50+ I've seen this a lot less, because quite a few tanks die on 3 groups at once. Whenever I tank I tend to pull, let the mob catch up and maintain a constant crawl relative to potential damage taken and the capabilities of the healer. So when that little crap stain says "pull more" even though they're healing me once every decade for a shred of hp I say "nah, you chose dps, I need a healer for that"
As a Scholar that started a week ago I can already agree. So far it's only been in full parties. As a new healer having the tank go from 4/5 to 0 hp in 3 seconds is pure panic. And then then the second tank dies before you have the time to res the first one and then it's over. The second healer on the other hand has always been great and reassuring.
Wouldn’t that be counter-intuitive in a sense? They get to feel happy for getting good parse, but at the cost of messing up a mechanic. I want to understand how they think :D

With low level content you can easily get away with greeding, aside from specific bosses you can literally just be self sufficient. Slide cast what you absolutely don’t want to be hit by, tank the hits that will be cured by natural regen (most of them tbh) and if you can’t get out you’ve got mana ward as an oh shit button. It helps to communicate to your healer about the natural regen thing, most just get pissed at you

I'm pretty sure SAM has recently outpaced DRG in dying for no reason, but really all dps jobs that end up in an AOE are prone to giving healers heart attacks. So avoid those yellow circles on the ground, along with any other shape that isn't blue. Except when they're arrows, then run to them, sometimes.

This is still so accurate, even at endgame content. I, as a dps main, and a black mage main see a aoe that I know I cannot escape out of in time, will stand still and be like "I shall accept this fate" as I try to use all my heavy damage spells before being KO by the boss.
Yeah, this is why I have trouble as a Scholar - people just tank the boss and die left and right. We healers need to band together and go on strike. Maybe once they realize they'll be stuck with potions that heal crap damage, the other guys will stop being idiots. XD
I did 8 raises singlehandedly in my party on a WoD run while my other healer just only dpsed. In that same run I single handedly raised an entire dead alliance too on cloud of darkness. Got 0 commends sad.

As someone who just hit shadowbringers not too long ago as a WHM since the start of my ARR journey.. This hurt me with how real it was on so many levels. Tank: *charges half the dungeon and constantly bolts out of my healing range and dies* Me: Bruh DPS: *doesn't wait on tank and tries to pull adds* Me: BRUH
The worst is when you're leveling alts in MSQ Roulette, and there's a sprout who once saw a bunch of veteran tanks charge pull, and think they can do it too. And when we all die, they still do it again. And again. And again. And again.
Being mostly melee dps main, playing healer for the first time and trying to stick with it made ME realize what I was fucking up and doing wrong as melee dps bc I see others doing the same thing as me and that itself has made me a better dps overall

What areas are bad places to stand for this specific boss, and do you have fallback points planned for if you need to move? If your just sitting there and spamming your skills as needed, you sound like a mediocre healer. You only become above average when you can do so with a consistent level of certainty that the cast will take, without burning MP or missing your queues to change priority, be that your target, your sub-roll, or even your gearset. Thus it's the hardest roll to be anything above "average" with a pick-up group found in the duty finder. You sort of need to know your party on a more personal level if you want to be able to be the best a healer can be, as you know how to react to your teammates on a much deeper level, and thus nobody should ever be feeling any sort of stress.

Let me tell you - bad tank will more often wipe the party than bad healer. Even good healers have the least to do during most fights, because all the stage mechanics, adds kiting and whatnot is always done by either dps or tank. There are very few instances in which a healer must do more than avoid shit on the ground and keep people alive. Tank needs to know how to position a boss/adds, when to use mitigation, and be mindful of all the shit on the ground in the air. Pre 5.0 it was also hard to hold aggro, luckily that's changed. Being dps is also easier said than done. You seem to think, that being dps is about hitting 2 buttons, maybe because that's how healers tend to dps (or 1, in case of WHM). But other than avoiding everything that is avoidable and paying attention to stage mechanics, you need to know your rotation well (which for most dps classes is far more complicated than anything either tank or healer have to press on their keyboard) AND know boss phases as well as immunity/transition thresholds, something that basically never bothers healers. If you don't, then more often than not you'll waste ogcd buffs 2 seconds before boss goes immune for half a minute. And being a bad dps is akin to being a liability, rather than an asset. Argue all you want, but the FFXIV community is of the mind that healer is by far the most boring role, and that's because you have least to do.
As a Black Mage i think the best compliment a healer give me was: "good, you didn´t give me any problem"...I think it´s because I like to camp near the reach of the healers and I make a healthy use of my teleport skills...healers love when you rescue by yourself...

I just carry potions with me as a DPS. Im so used to it now doing MSQ that I just keep them handy. I usually end up using one or two if the boss is giving us a hard time.
Dude, no joke. As a healer, other people playing other classes are sometimes soo annoying. Tanks sometimes don't understand to gauge your team comp and skill and not overpull to death, or they run out of range or around a bunch of corners and wonder why you didn't heal them. Some DPS's like to stand right next to the tank like they want to take it to the face with them. Or they spread out soo far that you miss them with certain aoe abilities. I swear, once you play healer, most other people playing other classes seem like they're braindead and/or they just don't think about the team and big picture.
Regardless of skill level as a black mage, if you're in your layline and there's an aoe incoming, there's defnitely a calculation going on in your head... just saying.
Went to the WoL trial for the first time (SAM), and this WHM kept pulling me out of AoE, as much as im feeling very grateful I can't help but to feel useless and dead weight too
I had that happen to me on my first nier raid. I was DRK and i didn't know what to do but this WHM kept pulling me out of all the danger. I only remember his IGN was some sort of penguin related name.
Should I be more harsh as WHM main? Idk, I'm pretty chill with healing tf outta people. DRG is my DPS main so I understand the pain of starting jumps before an AoE, and I know BLM cast times are literally lethal to their health, so I just try to adjust accordingly.
On one hand, as a black mage, ley lines is my best friend and you will not make me leave. On the other hand, as a white mage, GET IN THE BUBBLE _GET IN THE BUBBLE OR I W I L L RESCUE YOU_

This one time in Sastasha there was an Arcanist in our party that kept running ahead and of course dying. Lost count how many times I raised them after 7 or 8 raises and when they went to the final boss, alone and unsurprisingly died for the umpteenth I just thought ‘screw it just stay dead’

Yep this is my exact philosophy. I mained SCH till about halfway through ShB before swapping to DNC. Got tired of the toxicity when I asked tanks to please pull smaller until I got more used to ShB healing. So I now help support the healers as best I can while working up my courage to heal more

Honestly I just try work with whatever I got. It's a game I want to have fun. I want you to have fun too so let's just adapt to each other and keep the peace. At most one small advice once during the entire run and that's it. I won't push anymore and will just go with the flow instead.
My two mains are WHM and BLM. I can see both sides of the argument. Like, starting as WHM? I never would've imagined myself legitimately getting annoyed at AOEs getting dropped on my ley lines.... But I do! And on occasion, yeah, I'll just pop Mana Ward and try to sit through it. Sometimes it works, sometimes... it does not.
As a wow refugee I’m enjoying healing for time I just healed first dungeon and the tank said “I love you old wow healers. I don’t have to worry about dying while u DPS. It hard concept for me too. My job is to keep everyone alive.
I had a party that left the tank on their own and the dps's tanked... It was annoying and hilarious at the same time. It was a low level dungeon, we didn't wipe, but man was it weird to heal for.

Yeah with jump becoming high jump it helps a bit, and being able to self heal as melee dps with bloodbath is nice too.

As a white mage I can confirm. What really gets me is the tank asking for heals while he runs too far away for me to actually heal him.
Whats worse is when the tank doesn't pull aggro well enough and the enemies home in on my fragile healer body and I have to start running away and interrupt my casting so that I don't get taken out by every enemy that *knows* the healer is fresh meat

The tank got mad at me too, like sorry but when I get 6 stacks of debuff and then 9 enemies buttfucking me at the same time it’s hard for me to heal

I picked up dragoon like a week ago and am almost always the last one alive if we end up wiping.
Otherwise I'm fine. Literally once have a fucked up elusive jump and got myself killed.
Some people don't realize we Dragoons have skills we can pop where we do Damage to recover our Hp by a significant amount in our rotation kit, if we know we can't make it out an AOE in time he'll just pop it and get the hp back but healers start to freak out and spam heal. Some of us DRG's know what we're doing.
Bloodbath is op. I managed to survive big pulsl when tank died by using bloodbath with the AOE combo and it sustained me.
I mean, with the oGCDs too. For big pulls it's not possible to sustain with GCDs alone.
Yes but sometimes the AOE is too powerful for even bloodbath and us healers know it, so forgive us if we cast a Cure II on you just in case.

Some of you maybe know it, but not all and that is the problem. Thats why there are macros to announce things as example since it's just a good way of communicating that you know what you're doing.
As a BLM main, everyone that doesn’t know what’s going on or how to do the next mechanic in raids usually runs in my general direction. That’s because I know exactly where the aoes will drop!
That goes without saying the countless times I’ve died learning mechanics, while refusing to get out of my leylines chair…
I used to play very minmax with BLM until I started savage and it lowered my self esteem so hard that I went to main Red Mage. BLM mains in Savage have my respect.
As fellow BLM main I know the feeling of camping in our "sparkly circle of Doom" but I agree with you: you have to dodge the mechanics (teleport skills)...you can still contribute to the dps while moving we have instant cast spells and skill traits just for that purpose...

Adding in when you have the tank who insists on doing wall to wall pulls and is massively under geared. Like running a level 79 dungeon with gear from level 70 or lower. Then not understanding why you need to pop benediction a fraction of a second into the fight

As a WHM, I've never really had any problems with DPS party members. The BIGGEST irks or problems I've had is when the tank decides to run too far ahead without me or pull too many enemies and then blames me for not out-healing the insane amount of damage he's taking.
I feel like the only tank that would do that, is a tank that has never played healer before.
The amount of bloody tanks I've had do this. I've had friends quit because if tanks like that. Thank god I'm not alone in that. Granted as astr I can kinda heal while moving, but immortality is not a tanks thing. Thankfully at level 50+ I've seen this a lot less, because quite a few tanks die on 3 groups at once. Whenever I tank I tend to pull, let the mob catch up and maintain a constant crawl relative to potential damage taken and the capabilities of the healer. So when that little crap stain says "pull more" even though they're healing me once every decade for a shred of hp I say "nah, you chose dps, I need a healer for that"
As a Scholar that started a week ago I can already agree. So far it's only been in full parties. As a new healer having the tank go from 4/5 to 0 hp in 3 seconds is pure panic. And then then the second tank dies before you have the time to res the first one and then it's over. The second healer on the other hand has always been great and reassuring.
I never had issues with this especially as a white mage.
It annoys me more when they single pull.

With low level content you can easily get away with greeding, aside from specific bosses you can literally just be self sufficient. Slide cast what you absolutely don’t want to be hit by, tank the hits that will be cured by natural regen (most of them tbh) and if you can’t get out you’ve got mana ward as an oh shit button. It helps to communicate to your healer about the natural regen thing, most just get pissed at you

I'm pretty sure SAM has recently outpaced DRG in dying for no reason, but really all dps jobs that end up in an AOE are prone to giving healers heart attacks. So avoid those yellow circles on the ground, along with any other shape that isn't blue. Except when they're arrows, then run to them, sometimes.

This is still so accurate, even at endgame content. I, as a dps main, and a black mage main see a aoe that I know I cannot escape out of in time, will stand still and be like "I shall accept this fate" as I try to use all my heavy damage spells before being KO by the boss.
Yeah, this is why I have trouble as a Scholar - people just tank the boss and die left and right. We healers need to band together and go on strike. Maybe once they realize they'll be stuck with potions that heal crap damage, the other guys will stop being idiots. XD

How many points do you need to do prep work for to ensure that that your party can survive what's meant to be a party wipe moment should you not? What areas are bad places to stand for this specific boss, and do you have fallback points planned for if you need to move? If your just sitting there and spamming your skills as needed, you sound like a mediocre healer. You only become above average when you can do so with a consistent level of certainty that the cast will take, without burning MP or missing your queues to change priority, be that your target, your sub-roll, or even your gearset.
Thus it's the hardest roll to be anything above "average" with a pick-up group found in the duty finder. You sort of need to know your party on a more personal level if you want to be able to be the best a healer can be, as you know how to react to your teammates on a much deeper level, and thus nobody should ever be feeling any sort of stress.
@@fang4223 And why would you think, that everything you said doesn't apply to 2 other roles? If you're just sitting there, mindlesly spamming your skills, then you're just average tank or bad dps. Let me tell you - bad tank will more often wipe the party than bad healer. Even good healers have the least to do during most fights, because all the stage mechanics, adds kiting and whatnot is always done by either dps or tank. There are very few instances in which a healer must do more than avoid shit on the ground and keep people alive. Tank needs to know how to position a boss/adds, when to use mitigation, and be mindful of all the shit on the ground in the air. Pre 5.0 it was also hard to hold aggro, luckily that's changed.
Being dps is also easier said than done. You seem to think, that being dps is about hitting 2 buttons, maybe because that's how healers tend to dps (or 1, in case of WHM). But other than avoiding everything that is avoidable and paying attention to stage mechanics, you need to know your rotation well (which for most dps classes is far more complicated than anything either tank or healer have to press on their keyboard) AND know boss phases as well as immunity/transition thresholds, something that basically never bothers healers. If you don't, then more often than not you'll waste ogcd buffs 2 seconds before boss goes immune for half a minute. And being a bad dps is akin to being a liability, rather than an asset.
Argue all you want, but the FFXIV community is of the mind that healer is by far the most boring role, and that's because you have least to do.

As a Black Mage i think the best compliment a healer give me was: "good, you didn´t give me any problem"...I think it´s because I like to camp near the reach of the healers and I make a healthy use of my teleport skills...healers love when you rescue by yourself...
Funnily with the release of Endwalker, most BLMs I've seen actually knows their positioning really well compared to the average player on other jobs.

Dude, no joke. As a healer, other people playing other classes are sometimes soo annoying. Tanks sometimes don't understand to gauge your team comp and skill and not overpull to death, or they run out of range or around a bunch of corners and wonder why you didn't heal them. Some DPS's like to stand right next to the tank like they want to take it to the face with them.
Or they spread out soo far that you miss them with certain aoe abilities. I swear, once you play healer, most other people playing other classes seem like they're braindead and/or they just don't think about the team and big picture.
As a DRG main that also plays WHM on the side, i can relate to all of this

Yep this is my exact philosophy. I mained SCH till about halfway through ShB before swapping to DNC. Got tired of the toxicity when I asked tanks to please pull smaller until I got more used to ShB healing. So I now help support the healers as best I can while working up my courage to heal more

Honestly I just try work with whatever I got. It's a game I want to have fun. I want you to have fun too so let's just adapt to each other and keep the peace. At most one small advice once during the entire run and that's it. I won't push anymore and will just go with the flow instead.

As a wow refugee I’m enjoying healing for time I just healed first dungeon and the tank said “I love you old wow healers. I don’t have to worry about dying while u DPS. It hard concept for me too. My job is to keep everyone alive.

I had a party that left the tank on their own and the dps's tanked... It was annoying and hilarious at the same time. It was a low level dungeon, we didn't wipe, but man was it weird to heal for.
