The ole katy trail !!! Be glad to have ya in our neck of the woods !!! I did a couple rides this winter when it was about that cold !!.. I'll just stay a fair weather biker LOL GREAT video keep'em coming .
I don’t like doing any thing in the cold, but then I realized I was missing half the year waiting. I started hiking in the cold a few years ago but that’s a lot easier
I enjoyed this video as I ride some substantial distances around Ohio as a Columbus cyclist. You are right, there are very limited bike trails in the due south and southeast part of Ohio, existing ones are segments that you have to ride your bike on roads to reach {if you are not one to carry a bike on a vehicle bike carrier}. I enjoyed seeing you ride on US 52 and on the other highways including the one that was once OH 7. The two lane roads with slim shoulders are challenging, some of my friends think those roads should be avoided. Others say "take the lane" on such roads. Really? Yes you do at times but it is clearly foolhardy to hold it if a pickup truck is barreling down on you, 3 ft pass law not withstanding. Honestly, most drivers pass the proper way, there are just a few that make it challenging for us all. You had beautiful weather in this video and you are right about the cold. I rode from Columbus to Waynesville, we have trail for that route on February 1. Temperature was fluctuating between 28° and 34° all early morning and those cool temperatures work their way through your gloves. Hot Hands chemical warmers are almost essential. You will really want them if you ride in some real 20°'s such as 21° which seems to still get by "hot hands" and cool off your fingers uncomfortably. Low outdoor temperatures also reduce your speed a little, great job maintaining 10+ miles per hour. I want to make Portsmouth at some point. I should have done so. I've followed TOSRV for the first, 20, 50 and even 60 miles some years meaning Circleville, Chillicothe , and Waverly but never completed Portsmouth.
Yea, the route I took isn’t bad, it follows the river the entire way. Theres some other narrow roads out in the country that’s better to avoid over the locals not giving up space
Nice ride! Good winter gear makes a huge difference! How many and how long are your rest breaks during a 5 hour ride? I'm sure it varies, but wondering what's typical.
I stopped to eat, lunch maybe ten minutes (I ate an avocado & some protein powder) and I stopped a couple times to make the protein drink I was having. And to pee. I think the entire five hour trip I probably stop a total of 20 minutes. I may stop more if it was warm lol
Not sure that weekend you are anticipating coming to do the GRT is going to be a great one. The temps projections are headed down during that week - snow in the mix I think also
Do you uses RWGPS so I can use some of your routes? Am working on riding thru all 88 counties. For cold weather, I like 30F better than 50 and rain. Below 30F goggles are essential.
I chose RWGPS because the large organized rides were using it. I do like it, but any of the major apps would do. The main reason for the app is for the Wife to track me, keeps her happy, happy wife means happy husband.
Yea it is. I’m working on it. I’ve tried a couple mics, still looking for one that will work without having issues connecting or keeping a decent charge

I’m watching, I’m afraid you might be right
But there will be other opportunities coming soon. @@TheBane1979

I’m not sure what RWGPS is, so I probably don’t. I mapped it on the “MapMyRide” app and it shows my route.
Ride With GPS app, a different app.
@@garyleiendecker631 I’ll check it out

Thirty degrees biking! I bet your cheek got raw from the cold! (I mean face cheeks, not but cheeks!)
It wasn’t too bad. By noon it was in the 40s. I have a dang face mask and forgot it at home…lol
What bike are you riding sir
This is a trek 520, it’s the last year they made them 2023.
Sorry, wind noise way too annoying.
