- DEMU 1102 featured in the famous manic train chase towards the end of the film which was filmed on the Longmoor Military Railway.
This is an edited version of the train chase which we copied from the film to show the thumper
Great Fun ! . . . . As it happens the little girl, apparently, driving the train ( " Lola " ) is my cousin ! . . . . Still alive and well, currently living in France !
wonderful
Maddest thing I seen in years. If only someone would put up the whole film!!!
dr evil I'd love to see it again too
I've got a copy on DVD
By far the best of the St Trinians films. George Cole, Frankie Howerd, Dora Bryan, Reg Varney, that very fit French mistress, lots of 20 something 'schoolgirls', and all those fab trains. Wonderful!!
@@atilllathehun1212 French mistress was gorgeous so was portland mason!!!
George Cole - "Turf accountant to St Trinians".
The best chase sequence in any film ever.
The funniest scene in a film for a LONG time. I watched this at Christmas with my mum a couple of years ago, and my sides were hurting from laughing so much. 🤣
You used to watch this in 1967?
@@johnsplayworld2402 ...? Since when did "a couple of years ago" translate to "1967"?
@@LilyGrace95 oh i thought you watched this as a kid
@@johnsplayworld2402 Again, not sure how you got that impression. But no, I'm only 25 😅
This film was the best St Trinian's, followed by the 2007 remake. Me and my nan couldn't stop howling when watching this.
i grew up near the railway line. the bridge the trains went under was just 100 yards from my home. i spent my childhood playing on the old line. the bridge was filled in long ago and the old rail line is now a bypass.
There was an attempt to preserve the line, but the local residents campaigned against it and permission was refused.
In one sense the preservationists had the last laugh though - when the crane came along to lift the track, it accidentally demolished the overhead power lines to the objectors'' houses!
Absolute Magic even after all those years... Happy days...
I really think that it is time for someone to reopen the Longmoor Military Railway as the first community run heritage steam railway reuniting all the locomotives that were based at Longmoor which will mean repatriation of J94 Errol Lonsdale from Belgium and WD 2-10-0 Longmoor from Holland.
Loved the film so many comic characters in it Frankie Howerd was an absolute scream
I always enjoy this movie when it is on the train chase's was great fun to watch in particular the part when the police got involved and while riding the diesal train to catch up with the two steam trains untill one of the police officers turn round and noticed the two steam trains they were after were behind them.
"My name is Amber Spottiswood. I'm headmistress of St Trinians and I'm claiming the reward for the train robbery. Oh my goodness they're going the other way."
A great show!
This was all filmed at the longmoor military railway which sadly that line is now closed as of today
if you were a trainspotter during the time of filming and you did not know that there was filming going on, you would be super confused/ticked that these engines were going like the clappers with whistles and children screaming.
Just like guy in the station with trains going in all directions!
If I was on the Great Model Railway Challenge, I would recreate the Great St Trinians Train Robbery with Southern Railway locomotives like the Drummond 700s and BIL Southern Railway Diesel Rail Car.
Long moor military railway was closed in1968 after a open day for soldier's who trained there for world war two to return with their families as I did with my late father who served in the Royal engineers from 1939 to 47 long moor was used for signal instruction and track laying maintenence and loco mangment
1:52 Same brakes sound effect as used for Puffa in TUGS.
Funniest movie I seen and love st Trinian's the steam train chases were awesome funny seeing the girls and flash Harry foil the robbers this should have been remade and became at Trinian's 3 that would have been amazing people pay alot of money to travel on heritage lines and they are still loved by many including me growing up with a love for steam trains hot school girls and steam engines great train robbery perfect mix for st Trinian's
The funniest thing about this film was that these children stole the train and the wagon
George Cole. Legend
Who is the stunning looking blonde to the right of George Cole at around the 2:55 mark?
simp
Both are?
What locomotive is that at 3:09? It looks like a Hunslet Austerity dressing up as an LNER J50.
Anyways, interesting equipment, there was the aforementioned DEMU and an inspection car.
Your actually right for the film they made the austerity somewhat look like a j50 tank engine.
A.R. Productions actually it's a J94
not a J50.
@@dtaylor4552 the J94 dressed up as a j50.
@@justadudeontheinternet8354 If The Great St Trinians Train Robbery gets a modern rendition it should be filmed on the GWR main line at Didcot.
Both engines were austeritys so I guess they thought they needed to make one of them look different so the audience wouldn't be confused of which one was driven by the girls and which one was driven by the crooks.
Good old 1102, remember her well, but I think she was the only "surviving" DEMU scrapped when Connex ( Gone -ex ? ) or whatever they called the ex - Central Division by then ( ! ) finished them in 2005. By then only a 2 - car I think, last worked her on a Marshlink service. Happy days.
Why they couldnt have kept Longmoor as a preserved steam railway is beyond me! Tourists are paying MILLIONS now to travel on preserved heritage lines! 😢🤷🏼♂️
It’s good for bike rides now believe me…it’s half a mile from my front door!
There was an attempt to preserve it but the local residents objected and permission was refused.
@@RJSRdg so strange. Walking up the common is a wonderful thing but the thought of the line still being active on top of the scenery is so tantalising.
The Class 205 has a black triangle on the non brake van end... You couldn't really walk from one end of a 205 to the other as they were non gangwayed...
The Great St Trinians Train Robbery should be remade on the Bluebell Railway as part of the BRPS plans to extend the line south of Sheffield Park through Newick and Chailey and Barcombe to Lewes.
Was this filmed on a Military Railway?
Isochest the Longmoor Military Railway in Hampshire 3 years before the line was closed. If the Longmoor Military Railway does reopen as a community run heritage steam railway it should host an annual St Trinians weekend in the summer months.
@@dtaylor4552 did you go to eggar school Alton 87~92 by any chance,
If The Great St Trinians Train Robbery was remade it should be filmed on either Bluebell, Great Central and Severn Valley Railways.
They do not make comedy like this now Absolutely Hilarious
Should have had Stephen Lewis in the tower.
Two British railway tank engines ARe chasing each other and guess what a thumper just apeared
7:19 what was the point of this scene?
Bit pointless...but added to the drama, I suppose!
@@gregjones-x8c fair enough I guess
Look Phillip went into a tunnel when he saw diesel pulling trucks Phillip race back quickly so as diesel
you cant hang out the windows these days
that poor station master- porter
I think I can name all the trains throughout this part
J50
J94 Austerity
Class 205 Thumper
Class 08 Shunter
The J50 is actually another J94 austerity with modified side tanks
Are you sure because I recently found out it could be a J50/3
Parody of trains currently in Britain.
That poor train Marshall😂 he's going to end up in a mental asylum by the end of this😂😂😂
Mainly filmed on the Longmoor Military Railway before it was closed down and ripped up in the late 60s. Loved watching the St Trinians films before the PC crowd and the snowflake generation took over and softened everything up and made films etc boring to watch.
British trains be like
:-)
