  • Leupold's new rangefinder, the RX-5000 TBR-W is proving that it is no longer enough to provide a simple angle-compensated range. A new all-in-one app provides features like remote fire, easy adjustment of settings, and most interestingly, integration with onX Maps, Apple Maps and Google Maps that allows you to drop waypoints via laser rangefinder.
We took to the desert to test out the capabilities of this new system, and boy, were we impressed.

Will the RX-5000 drop a pin on Onx map when out of cell service and using down loaded maps ?

Great question. I believe it will but I will have to verify that myself. I'll let you know.

I reached out to our friends at Leupold and confirmed that no internet connection is needed for the pinning feature to work. You can apply your pins using downloaded maps.
It's also worth noting that in their testing of the pinning accuracy, their dats consistently got them within 25 yards of a pin placed at 1,000 yards. There could have been several factors effecting my pin accuracy - metal interfering with the laser, the cactus not being the most reflective, etc.
