The fact that they never even bothered to look for insurances after the Rodgers injury week1 is easily the most damning and baffling thing about this whole scenario. They saw what the previous year of Wilson was like, to not go out and at least tryout other guys is just sheer managerial incompetence of epic proportions.
Rodgers returning early is also ridiculously risky from multiple fronts and it doesn't take a Doctor to make that deduction. He could easily reinjure it and potentially ruin his chances at next season. Idk how much Rodgers is "GM"ing or w/e behind the scenes, dude just seems like he is trying to do what he can to help this dumpster fire. Can't help but feel bad for Jets fans tho.

The team clearly believes (or at least believed at the time) there was hope for Wilson. I don't know if it's just that he performs much better in practice or if they still bought into his "potential" but yeah - the fact they didn't even seem to bother to look is perhaps the worst part of this situation.

@@fleetadmiralj I mean having a backup QB like Tim Boyle is also bonkers, like they could've had a better backup QB even before the season started. Granted yeah like not going for Doubs who only cost a 6th. Even with this recent loss he seems to have more potential than Wilson and especially Boyle.
I'm not sure how much management listens to the coaches or how much input Saleh has for offense, but it's definitely a mess and they're worse than last year.

  • @BAMFshee

I have to agree with Tom; the Jets' refusal to do *anything* despite Rodgers getting knocked out for the season Week 1 (with an injury that could potentially hurt him for any future seasons if he doesn't outright retire, no less) is infuriating and makes no sense.
Wilson is very clearly not a viable starter at QB; that was obvious last year (it's why they jumped at the chance to get Rodgers in the first place). Yet they stubbornly refused to explore other options (remember "he's who gives us the best chance to win"?); they didn't even try to see what they had with Boyle (which, it turned out, was "nothing") until after the trade deadline when it was too late to scramble and try to find anyone else. What was their plan? Wager the entire season on Wilson magically turning his career around? Guess what, it didn't happen, so they have nothing. Another lost season to throw onto the pile, thanks to offensive ineptitude that they didn't even *try* to fix once Rodgers went down.
If I were a Jets fan, I'd want the entire front office fired. This is gross incompetence and negligence. Sure, losing Rodgers was always going to be a hell of a blow, but AT LEAST TRY TO WORK AROUND IT GODDAMNIT.

    • @woodcutta6461

Wilson isn't a viable starter for the Jets. They have no way to develop QBs I mean just look at Russell Wilson this year compared to last year and now Zach Wilson, who has the tools to be a good QB, is looking worse as they limit the playbook as much as possible.

They are the LOL JETS for a reason; they had no plan B after going all in with Rodgers.
Besides the fact that did not trade/draft/sign a reputable backup, the bigger personnel malpractice was the idea in the first place that the Jets would put their 40-year old, $100 million quarterback behind such a patchwork offensive line. The idea that they have so little depth in pass protecting what they were hedging their entire Super Bowl chances on is so right up the alley of the Woody Johnson-Era Jets.

Such a horrifically dumb opinion. He had like 4 seconds to throw and was brought down in the most mild way possible. He is 40 years old and has had injuries almost every year since 2013. His calf strain in the offseason may have even been a sign that his legs were showing wear and tear. If Sam Howell got hurt, you can blame the OL a bit because he has been sacked 55 times. Rodgers didn't even make it through 1 sack. Go rewatch the play without any slo-mo and tell me he didn't have time to find a WR or throw it away.
      2013: Broken collarbone
2014 and 2016: Calf tear and calf strain
      2017: Broken collarbone again
      2018: Knee and concussion
      2021: Broken toe
      2022: Broken thumb

The Jets offense is so bad because #1 Rodgers achilles, #2 All their back up QBs are really bad, #3 the slightly above average O-line has been decimated by injuries (I blame this partly on Zach holding on to the ball too long), #3 Hackett's scheme only works with Rodgers at QB. I heard that the Hackett's system relies heavily for the QB to make adjustments right before the snap. Rodgers could do that. The problem is Hackett can't adjust his system and systems that can't adjust die quickly.

  • @nojkoor1584
    @nojkoor1584 11 місяців тому +5

Winning with qb play stopped being the answer when Rodgers got hurt. Jets have Dalvin and Breece. They should each be getting about 15 carries a game. Utilize them and some tight ends in blocking situations for run game and pass game if the o-line plays poorly. Even if they do not gain a lot running the ball, it will keep opposing defenses on the field and let Jets defense rest and play even better. Jets still have serviceable kicker in Greg the leg, and a great punter in Morstead. Try to win with field position, defense, and run game. Not Wilson or Boyle

The Jets season was done after the Raiders game for me. They can tank all they like for the rest of this season if it means they can put together even an average to slightly-better-than-average offense next year.
The Jets defense is so strong that if they had an offense that could put up just 16 points, the team would win most games. But right now the Jets struggle to do more than 9 points like some force field pops us the moment they get to the red zone. Assuming their drive doesn't end in a 3-and-out to begin with.
It's so frustrating being a Jets fan and seeing so much regression. Even with Rodgers out, I was hoping for at least a Wildcard spot. Sure, that's not much, but it would have shown the Jets could be a real contender in the years to come.
Instead, it's another of wait-and-see what the Jets can do next year season.

Joe Douglas did a great job scouting skill position players and then forgot about the rest of the team. I also don't think Saleh is QUITE in firing territory for me, nor is Douglas, but Hackett 100% is. The former two have made plenty of crucial mistakes but Hackett has shown me NOTHING thus far that shows he can help. Once Rodgers' time is done here and he has no other ties to us get his ass out, if he doesn't improve.

As a Broncos fan we dealt with the “what if” with Rodgers when the draft night trade fell apart. Then the GM hired Hackett thinking it would be enough to get Rodgers…then he stayed with the Packers. He is a great quarterback but his ego is out of control. When the Jets hired Hackett, I couldn’t believe it since he refused to hold his players accountable. Gordon kept fumbling and kept him as a starter. And the field goal situation in Seattle…that was when I knew made a mistake hiring Hackett.

Breece Hall gives you your best shot of making a big play happen at any given time. Let the boy cook or trade him.

My biggest complaint is that the team seems convinced that Wilson is or could be a good QB if we just give him a chance and like...I was like that at one point, until maybe this point last season, until I finally admitted he was trash. I think they may have finally come to the same conclusion. The problem is that it's too late to do anything about it. And yeah, why bring in Trevor Siemian? He may not be great by, my god, he has at least historically performed better than *this*.
And yes, frankly, the O-line is the biggest problem (outside of QB) on this team. I think the run game is probably okay - the thing is that people aren't afraid of the pass so they can just pile in to defend the run. I honestly think we need to draft an offensive lineman in the 1st round and probably also trade for one (or more) as well. Do something to shore that up. Problem is Jets may sneak into the top 5 picks (something entirely plausible at this point) to nab either Alt or Fashanu at OT. If someone like Nix or Penix can drop to them in the 2nd round, I'd seriously consider picking them up as a good quality 2nd round QB to practice behind Rodgers next year.
I'm just afraid this team will do what it will always do: draft for the defense and neglect the offense, and we've seen where that has gotten us.

If Rodgers is allowed to keep running the show the Jets are not going to be better next year. I thought for the longest time that the situation where Favre & Rodgers at the end of their careers were able to hold GB hostage was because there was no one owner who could put his foot down & the GM didn't feel they could. Clearly at least with Rodgers everyone is afraid of hurting his feelings and telling him he is a player and if he wants to continue to be let the front office do their job.
With Rodgers in charge it is unlikely Saleh gets fired because it is doubtful any new head coach who wants to succeed or fail on their own merit would want anything to do with Hackett. Now while the Bears likely have the 1st pick locked up via Carolina if they end up finding their footing with Fields their next head coach may want to use the number 1 on Harrison Jr and the other top pick on OL help. The commanders seem set with Howell. AZ could keep Murray. Only the Patriots & Giants of the worst teams could be all in on a new QB. Point being that the Jets right now are likely getting a top 3-5 pick based on the schedule they have left they could be draft as high as 2 or 3. Meaning they could be looking at drafting Williams, Daniels or Maye but if Rodgers is calling the shots none of them are getting drafted. Now imagine the devil bargains the Jets fans will feel was made if one of those QB's turn out elite and they ended up with a guy Aaron wants who is serviceable but not special.

I am sorry, I don't care how good at the occassional draft pick home run he is, Douglas has been in charge of putting the team together for SIX years and they haven't even cracked 500 in that time. The best season is 7 wins. As for Saleh, he is clearly maxed out as a D-Coordinator. Plenty of teams have bad offenses and they manage to hold together. He has faced open mutiny, his team falling apart and giving up in both of the last two years because of the offense. I can't see that happening to a good coach. Hell, even Hackett did not face that last year in Denver for all the bad mouthing he gets. Frank Reich got fired and his team wasn't giving up on him in back to back years like the Jets have on Saleh.

I want to know what Tom is referring to when he says “ The Packers had to deal with this” Injury? Indecision? Wanting players he likes on the team? Cause the way Tom said it made it seem like Aaron was part of the problem. And calling him GM Rodger’s is wild given that at the end of the day that is coaches and actual GMs choice to sign on those players. Idk left a bad taste for me. Made me think he’s partially blaming Rodger’s for the some of the Jets problems. But maybe that’s just how I’m interpreting it.

    • @BAMFshee
      @BAMFshee 11 місяців тому +5

Pretty sure he's referring to the whole media circus with "is Rodgers retiring/staying with the Packers/wanting out" the past couple of years, and how he's glad he got to skip the whole "will he or won't he rush back from his injury" speculation around him this year.
I would assume "GM Rodgers" was a reference to how Rodgers had a wishlist of players he wanted the Jets to sign before he'd sign with them.

Rodgers was making demands on who they should sign. As you can see, the players he wants aren't very good, they're just familiar with Rodgers. And his constant bitching about the coaches, the young teamamtes, etc etc. He believes he is smarter than everyone else. That's what the Packers had to deal with

The jets simply need to ask Rodgers if he's cool with drafting his replacement early. Hell, let him have input on the replacement. Dont do what the packers did and just go get a guy. Pick the guy Aaron would most want to mentor and if he doesn't want to do that, then dont, get guys who compliment him with early picks. Picking a qb in rounds 5-7 have proven to pay off before.

If Rodgers input was so good, maybe the Jets would've added better than Cobb, Lazard, Boyle, and Hackett. Funny how Rodgers "never had good enough WR's" and took 2 terrible ones to his new team with him. At least Brady took AB, Gronk, and Fournette with him, who all had TDs in the super bowl W

I’m half kidding, Dobbs has been pretty decent last game aside. But I’m not sure I’d trust him to be able good on the Jets. They’re an offensive wasteland. I was skeptical of Rodgers being any good anyway coming off his worst year and I can’t say anything the Jets have shown me makes me think he’ll be better a year* and an injury later.

They've got Breece and Garrett under an OC who plays an entire game against the most creative offensive mind in the NFL and doesn't use pre-snap motion even one time. • @173jaSon371

Imagine being stupid enough to think that winning 2 super bowls is BAD. Only 12 QBs have won multiple and most of them were on stacked, dynasty level teams like the Cowboys, Steelers, 49ers, Pats, and a lot of them happened in the pre-salary cap era. I'm not even a Packers fan I'm a Patriots fan, but winning a ring is not that easy and I think Brady has clouded peoples minds and judgement on career accomplishments. Brees and Marino were not bums. Neither were guys like Warren Moon, Phil Rivers, Dan Fouts, etc who don't have rings.
It's a team game, and that's why guys like Foles and Dilfer and Flacco have rings. Not saying some of them didn't play out of their minds in postseason runs like Eli and Flacco, but it still requires a full team effort and a bit of luck. Brady could just as easily have 9 super bowl wins or 4 super bowl wins instead of 7. 1 was Butler, 2 were Vinatieri, other games had huge efforts from guys like Hightower, Vereen, James White, etc.
Rodgers also didn't have some legendary coach like Brady, Montana, Bradshaw, or Staubach had. Most all time greats need an all-time HC paired with them to achieve their full potential, and some still don't.

i said this from day one (as a jets fan), getting Aaron Rodgers was a huge mistake
great QB and everything, but he's past his prime, and comes with so much bullshit that even if he was healthy and played this year 1) i don't think it would've been enough to win a super bowl and 2) he was going to set this team up for failure
hate that I'm correct but tbh I feel like most jet fans saw this coming
best case scenario with Rodgers was maybe playoffs and hopefully luck our way to a super bowl while maybe helping out Wilson
but the most likely scenario was, playoffs, lose, Rodgers walks away, we are stuck with his friends and Wilson still isn't any good, wasting another season as a result
i don't blame the GM at all because he literally made all the right moves
went to get Rodgers, got some O-Line depth, resigned our top players, got some WR depth etc
but most of it just didn't work out which sucks but hard to blame JD for that
the ONLY thing i still cant get behind is NOT getting someone like Wentz to backup Wilson
and my only thought is that maybe they didn't want to piss off Rodgers by getting rid of Boyle or some bullshit
Rodgers has such a massive ego and a "me first" attitude, and it destroyed this team
like i said most jet fans saw this coming, even if he was healthy it was gonna end bad for this team in the long run
the injury just made it abundantly clear that this team was created for Rodgers, and setup to fail
