The Truth About the Apollo City Pro: What I Dislike After 250 Miles

  • Hey there, it's Tim and in this video, I'm going to be sharing my thoughts on the Apollo City Pro electric scooter after riding it for almost 400 kilometers/250 Miles. I'll talk about what I like and what I don't like, so you can decide if it's the perfect commuter for you.
    One of my favorite things about the Apollo City Pro is that it has almost silent motors, making it really quiet while riding. It also has a great suspension and choice of tires, making the ride smooth, especially on tarmac. The brakes are also fantastic with two mechanical drum brakes that require almost no maintenance, making it easy to ride even in the rain or slush.
    The IP rating on this scooter is also great, meaning you don't have to worry about puddles or any weather conditions affecting the scooter's performance. The battery life is also impressive, making it perfect for commuting.
    However, there are a few things I don't like, such as the light on top of the scooter being a little weak for nighttime riding, and the turn signals could be positioned higher up for better visibility. The app that comes with the scooter is also a bit of a mixed bag, with some great features but also some things that need improvement.
    Overall, the Apollo City Pro is an amazing scooter that's perfect for commuting. Check out the video to see it in action and hear more about my thoughts on it.

    I got my city pro back up and running from where I had been hit by a car on it 2 months ago. Not sure if you remember my comments about that lol.
    500 miles on it so far and I love it. Smooth ride and like you said literally silent motors. Suspension is great handles the road well. They have the new upgrade kit coming out with the turning signals on the ends of the bars plus a few other bonuses. I went ahead and purchased that I'm excited for when it ships out in July.

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  Рік тому +3

      Hi Drew, I've never seen it...but I think you're pushing the limits of the scooter...for that kind of riding I'd be looking at the Phantom or even a Wolf King GT or something that has the ability to dissipate the heat more efficiently from both the motors (less of an issue) and the battery/controller area. :)

  • @BruceWayne15325

    Apollo is brilliant for adding the separate regen brake paddle on their scooters. Not having to replace brake pads is super nice, and getting a bit of extra range from it is a nice plus. I know that some don't like the drum brakes, but I think that's a smart move as well for the IP rating. Between combining regen brake and drum brake you could probably stop just as fast if not faster than disc brakes anyway.

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  11 місяців тому +1

      totally agree @bryant7191, and the IP rating as you mentioned makes it so much better for people living on the wet coast :)

      I don’t understand what regen breaks are how does it break without you pressing anything?

    • @BruceWayne15325
      @BruceWayne15325 9 місяців тому +1

      @@christianb8228 You have to press a separate regen thumb paddle to apply the regen brakes. They work by basically reversing the current of the motors, so that instead of consuming power they generate power. The harder you press on the regen brake throttle the more electricity is generated and the faster you stop.

      lastly, it rains a lot here in the winter and with a high IP rating and no mechanical or hydraulic brakes to get wet and rusty, the drum brakes suit this climate and me perfectly.

    I get the impression this guy doesn’t understand IP ratings. There is a big difference between ip64 and ip66.
    It’s not about the total number being only 2 apart.

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  Рік тому +1

      thank you...it is by measure two apart. I would love it if manufacturers had IP 66 for their scooters and Ebikes but at present very few do. And 64 is splashed, while 66 is strong jets of water ..which is important when you live as I do very close to a rain forest :)

  • @erikkuchen
    @erikkuchen Рік тому +2

    It's underpowered and overpriced. Design and low maintenance are really the only things it has. One of the weakest and lowest-ranged scooters at the price point. It's basically an overbuilt casual scooter. Any other mid-weight scooter will gap the city pro and outperform it at every performance metric. The City Pro is heavy for a casual commuter at ~65lbs

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  Рік тому +3

      and yet I love it...I have literally a dozen scooters to choose from for commuting through the city...and I reach for it several times a week. Just last night for going to referee a soccer game...it's not too heavy...but so smooth and quiet...love it ...not fast (you're right) and the battery could be bigger but the smoothness of the acceleration and regen braking is awesome...plus I think it looks modern and clean :)

    • @TimsElectric

      @tvandele Рік тому +3

      Yes as an owner, I'd have to agree with you. It's much longer, taller, wider and heavier than my Ninebot Max G30LP, almost twice as heavy in fact. If a commuter scooters needs to be somewhat portable then this isn't a commuter. I can only just get it up a flight of stairs. I'm happy with the choice though. I was looking for the low maintenance and for something that could easily survive being riden in the rain and it's now survived 5 months of wet weather and a couple of serious crashes which might have messed up disc brakes.
