This is also the only 2-Level Kmart left in the state as the one in Elmwood Park which used to be a grand way department store before it was acquired by Kmart back in 1979
Just travelled 100 miles and back just for Chick Fil A and the only remaining Kmart I know of in upstate NY... (as much as I love Kmart, this store’s AC was not working on the one 100* temperature day... and the store is extremely outdated... but it felt good to be back at Kmart after my local one closed in January...)
The Kmart store I used to work in Southbury, CT was two levels. Unfortunately it closed in December 2017. I believe it was originally a Read's, then Jordan Marsh before it became a Kmart. Right now they're looking to divide up the building into three different stores and the gym next door is expanding into the lower level.
This looks like our old 2 story Woolco's in Ontario in Missisauga and Scarbrough(Toronto)and Toronto Dufferin Mall that were converted at buyout by Walmart in the 90s some 12 years or more after the American Woolco's were gone right down to it being 2 levels with cart escalators
Someone must have cleaned up this Kmart..last time I was there it was a friggin dump...my husband is from West Orange NJ and we visit this one when we are in town...i am impressed about the cleanliness The bowling alley sound..there actually is a bowling alley not too far down the street called Eagle Rock Lanes on Eagle Rock Ave
The closed Cafe makes me sad. Still a nice looking store, & I hope it stays open, or, if it does close, I hope someone else can buy/lease the building & put it to good use fairly quickly.
I agree that this blows doors of the typical sad ass Kmart that is still frozen in time from the 70s. However, I think it is still too little too late. You were there on a Sunday and I hardly saw anybody in that store.
11:20 see the grey counter? That's clearly from the 90's, as this Kmart wasn't a Kmart before that (duh!), but the point is those grey counters get mistaken as being from the 80's, and they're not, they're from the Big Kmart renovation from the 90's, and this proves it, those are 90's counters, not 80's counters, Kmart's last big chain-wide renovation was the 90's into Big Kmart.
Was Bradlees in your area? I remember commercials from Maine where our local NBC station came from when I was a kid. There’s another fun tidbit I found on UA-cam a bit ago, before target bought out the Zellers leases from HBC, they had plans to do a major overhaul and there’s a video of one of the newly refurbished locations out I believe in Winnipeg. Oh what could have been if some tool bag hadn’t decided he didn’t want the Bay attached to a discount chain 😢🤬
WHAT A PLACE! 🙌 That's also amazing how you captured a photo of the place with the big kmart logo. That's very rare with a bunch of stores. Luckily I found one of mine. This place was great! My mother also told me that Caldor was also like kmart as well. I think one was in my home town too but closed in the early 2000's? Something like that. Also I love the remodeled kmarts. Unfortunately dumpert has closed some that had the mid 2000's update including mine. I later come to realize that target was the reason for kmart's struggles and exit. I may not live in the area anymore but it still pains me that it's gone. I'm glad West Orange still has theres. When you were going to New York, did you run through any of the other Oranges by any chance? There's quite a few 😂. West Orange is the nicest though 👍😂
I loved and still miss caldor. That was the store of my childhood (born in the mid 80's). Both the old caldor and the remodeled store. They had items that were local or unique to the area (at least the ones by me did on long island). Items you just can't find in other stores. Seems like the unique stuff they sold just disappeared as soon as they shut there doors. Also why did old style Caldors seem to have a vision world next to them? Oddly enough korvettes was know for poor buildings. At least that's what I read. Built quick and low quality. My dad remembers them. He used to shop there. Don't forget TSS also know as Time Square Stores. By the way I'm surprised you didn't have a caldor by you. Before they closed in 1999 they pushed their way from the north east to I believe Virginia. I think I still have shopping bags from them. The newer style. The red, white and gray color scheme.
That is a pretty cool and unique Kmart, it doesn’t even feel like one. One problem though, how do you go back in time to Korvetts so I can Browse the wall of TVs?
Having the bowling sounds in the background when you had to cover the audio from the recording was a nice change. Kinda made it a little different from it just being your voiceover. I'm not sure I'd like it all the time, but it would be nice every once in awhile, just for something different. Also, it was cool to see what else this Kmart was before it was a Kmart.
I now happen to own a few "Vintage K-Mart T-Shirts" (same as one in front at 7:22 in charcoal grey) since my hometown one (non-closing at Rexville in Bayamon, PR) began to clearance those at U$2.99 each (orig. U$11.99). Cheap enough to stock on them....
as someone who lives here this is no gem- this place is so trashy and if you ever have a chance to wait in line - tell me what a gem it is - if i shop here its because i have no choice. This should be torn down and turned into a TARGET
Hey WallieB another channel I follow (Steven lavimoniere) an HVAC guy got dinged for his iPhone ringing on camera no lie! A standard ringtone UA-cam is really going nazi
One of your best KMart videos. My home state has a lot of interesting things to film. I have not been to this KMart, but do say they made a great use of the space. I'm wondering if Korvettes and Caldor had the entire strip of store and then they both went under the site was divided into two level Kmart with some other stores and Whole Paycheck (sorry Whole Foods) taking part of the site. I always found the Whole Foods staff very pretencious to me. Guess they are the pricey version of Giant Eagle. Again I think this KMart survives because there is litlte competition nearby. Don't know if West Orange (or the Oranges several cities with the name Orange in it) have WalMarts or Tarshay. This is a beautiful KMart, and I would shop here. I remember going to the Korvettes at Herald Square, NYC, between Gimbels (now JC Penney) and the Macy's flagship. Saved my allowance to get a calculator and think I paid $36 dollars for it. That store was a mess and it took forever to check out. It was right before Korvettes complently went under. Now that Korvettes is an H&M with clothes that don't fit guys like me with Dad Bods. Someone needs to a poll. If I am watching your video I may notice the store music for three seconds, especially that KMarts seems to play 80s pop hit soundtracks. We are watching what you film and listening for whatever funny stuff youw will say. The music is irrelevent and you should not be dinged for it. But what do I know? Hope you come back to my state. Looks like both you and Kayla enjoyed it. WHEN you come back I must take you to a diner to try Jersey's foody contribution to fine cuisine: Pork Roll (or Taylor Ham as we northerners call it.)
The Korevettes was before my time, but the Caldor was the exact same footprint as the KMart, right down to the human and cart escalators. The Whole Foods location used to be a Pathmark
AWESOME Wallie!

Wallie the Vision World is a former Blockbuster
Man, the curvature of the wooden floors! I've never seen the wood-to-tile transition curved like that.
Very nice looking Kmart. Sad to hear that it will be closing
NJ Kmarts are the best 😍
Thanks bud! ❤
Just travelled 100 miles and back just for Chick Fil A and the only remaining Kmart I know of in upstate NY... Wow what a nice looking Kmart! Looks a little like a Target.
Kevin Plays Guitar it’s better on the outside than on the inside
I thought it looked like a Target too.
Thanks for sharing this awesome location of Kmart.
Nice video brings back memories of retail in the 80s and 90s when people could actually go out some where
Store is Closing Now what shame!
The Kmart store I used to work in Southbury, CT was two levels. Unfortunately it closed in December 2017. I believe it was originally a Read's, then Jordan Marsh before it became a Kmart. As of now, the only Kmart open in CT is the one in Watertown. If you're ever up this way, you should film there.
Someone must have cleaned up this Kmart..last time I was there it was a friggin dump...my husband is from West Orange NJ and we visit this one when we are in town...i am impressed about the cleanliness
The bowling alley sound..there actually is a bowling alley not too far down the street called Eagle Rock Lanes on Eagle Rock Ave
Wow that is one nice Kmart.
Video are amazing
Cool Kmart :)
Hi My Friend Awesome find and i miss kmart and all we have here is sears take care
This Kmart has that Target vibe to it
Its have more of Sears vibe to it
Very Target-esque!
The closed Cafe makes me sad. Still a nice looking store, & I hope it stays open, or, if it does close, I hope someone else can buy/lease the building & put it to good use fairly quickly.
I only went to West Orange, NJ when Pals’ Cabin was in business.
Wallieb26, I'm ready for not 1 not 2 but 3 new episodes of your show. Happy 4th of July.
Awesome video
That is is how Kmart should look it looks nice and marden it does not look old rundown like most of them do.
THANK YOU AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
This Kmart is apparently Closing
A genuinely nice Kmart! Wow!
It’s now closed at Kmart in West Orange
I agree that this blows doors of the typical sad ass Kmart that is still frozen in time from the 70s. However, I think it is still too little too late. You were there on a Sunday and I hardly saw anybody in that store.
Haha, kept wondering if this Kmart also had a bowling alley.😂
Well it's closing now
The Halloween and Christmas T-shirt is probably left over from last year.
And this store is now closing 😭
My Kmart closed when they filed for bankruptcy, only one left in Texas, its kinda rare to see Kmart open though
My Kmart in Phoenix AZ had alot of business, but Walmart and Targets began to take over and killed it.
@@lclnbm Kmart was a nice place, however in the 90s Kmart focused more on the stores they bought than their own stores, making them outdated.
I been to Woodbridge, Kearney, and Bellevue...never knew they had one in West Orange
What a cool Kmart store I love it so much because it’s unique thx u so much what a great video in I enjoy your videos
seems well enough maintained for being almost 60!
I never see Kmart's open anymore, pretty cool. And yes, they are getting tough on music playing in the background when we are filming lately
Awesome video 👍 thx wallie! what a nice and cool looking kmart
Shout out W🍊
that kmart should be a super kmart
Funny how I was sort of thinking the same thing 😂
235 Prospect Ave

Man I really want one of those old Kmart logo shirts. I can’t seem to find any.
Why is this unlisted?

Wait I know the people walking in the background 💀💀💀
awesome vdeo
In your next Kmart video sing Kidz bop uptown funk
I've been to this Kmart.
That is a pretty cool and unique Kmart, it doesn’t even feel like one. One problem though, how do you go back in time to Korvetts so I can Browse the wall of TVs?
Love the Kmart you should sing for the music in the background

Still has that shabby Kmart feel to it with all the ceiling tiles lifted and not in place. It probably was nice before getting run down.
Nice Kmart
another K Lounge™ classic. go Dolphins :)
If all Kmarts looked like this, they would be drowning in cash.
Wow.
Kmart are becoming U-Haul in Illinois.
Seen a lot them in Illinois doing that.
that kmart has nice lighting in it prob left over from the last store
I got the same kmart t-shirt just darker gray
A tv shop & a ladies cloths shop, before coming to this retail!
as someone who lives here this is no gem- this place is so trashy and if you ever have a chance to wait in line - tell me what a gem it is - if i shop here its because i have no choice. This should be torn down and turned into a TARGET
Maybe you should sing Wallie. To cover the music.
I would like to hear him sing as well. 😁They were playing some great tunes in that Kmart.
Different for that store having no round vents and having bilingual signs on walls.
Damm can we get Kmarts like this here?
You mean to tell me yall Don't have a kmart in your town,,
NJ is a very expensive state to live in. You have to be good to make it here. No punk retailers allowed.
Kmart survivor store#51 west orange, NJ
