Thank you for joining me on this journey through Kanaka Maoli & hope it helped to see the REAL HAWAII. I’d love to hear your thoughts & testimonies in the comments below! 🌺 Please stay tuned for more stories celebrating the rich heritage of Hawai’i & the Pacific!
I am Hawaiian and was adopted by a military husband and wife. Fortunately my adopted mother wanted me to know my culture. Today I’m 76 years old. My Parents were transferred to the mainland when I was 4 years old. I am Hawaiian. I was able to send my grandchildren to University of Hawaii, Manoa. Last year my first great grand child was brought to Hawaii to be baptized, as. I was, in a local church. I hope my family will never forget their heritage, learn all they can and remember that we all are family and to hold dear the islands, the rivers and oceans. Please May we become sovereign one day.
Brah... This one hurts. I've been on the continent for 10 years now. I have truly seen my island home change and I don't see it for the better. Then aunty said, "How you help us fight if you leave?" That well and truly broke me. I left because I just couldn't afford to be kanaka in Hawaii. What I went to school for isn't paid enough for me to survive comfortably there. So what am I supposed to do now? The plan was always to make my money and then go home and help my family. Everyday though, things get harder. People are getting harder. If I could, I would go work a lo'i if it meant that could still afford to. The Western world has affected so many of us. Wants and needs are hard to fight against when all we need is a proper ecosystem to live in. Recently someone mentioned to me that, "Hawaiians on the mainland are sometimes more Hawaiian than the ones still at home." The belief that, we took with us the Hawaii we remember and spread that culture to those we know and love. On the other side of it, we have our kanaka trying to maintain what once was and becoming much more angry about it in the process. What are we supposed to do though? We all can't just go home. We all can't just kick the Haole people out. If we remove ourselves from America, who's going to fight against the next set of invaders to our strategic land? Besides financially, the only other benefit American sees in Hawaii is it's strategic position in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I hate the truth but the truth is there. So I'm here torn and conflicted with this whole thing. So congrats, you did something beautiful and broke my heart but I'm not mad at you about it. I'm mad at myself for not knowing what the next day brings for my soul. 🤙
"Everyday though, things get harder. People are getting harder. " I'm inspired by Anthony leaning into the creation of this work despite his own personal difficulties. I discovered him recently and was amazed by how small his channel was given the qualities of his work. I signed up to his Patreon without realizing that I was essentially his first contributor. Since then, I've been leaning into his content, learning from him. I guess I want to respond to the idea of things getting harder and people getting harder. Not all of us are getting harder, some of us are getting softer and gentler. But then, I'm 66 and had a good career and a stable life that involved years of retirement savings. I live with people who are struggling and lean into figuring out ways that we can be together in a good way.
"Wants and needs are hard to fight against when all we need is a proper ecosystem to live in. " - for me, I helped to found an intentional community near Seattle. I choose to help create a proper ecosystem to live in - one where people choose to share their lives and help each other in countless ways. This created a better life for my family in the midst of a world that constantly pushes wants and needs that are just not what I wanted or needed.
"I hate the truth but the truth is there. So I'm here torn and conflicted with this whole thing. " Yes, but do remember that there are lots of truths and the truths that we focus our attention on determine how we live our lives.
"I'm mad at myself for not knowing what the next day brings for my soul. " I share this madness. I'm frustrated that I've not done more than what I've done with my life. But in this frustration comes some clarity. Right now, I'm just grateful about what Anthony's work has reminded me about my capacity to change.
Aloha no kaua! Firstly i mahalo you for sharing your mo’olelo and mana’o on , well everything. It’s so much easier said than done to just up and go back. Hence why I put diaspora because their journey is harder as they aren’t “Hawaiian enough” and still gotta find the way to survive and connect to the islands. So many have left because the socioeconomic conditions are god awful. I mean just to be in Hawai’i, live, to meet all of these Hawaiians was like death. I worked three jobs not including content creation for this and felt like I was dying. I can’t imagine being KANAKA and having two choices. Stay and fight, or go. So I truly under why kanaka leave because it becomes too unbearable. While my project wasn’t a means to FIX anything as I alone can’t do that. I hope it’s raised awareness for all non kanaka, to realize see the consequences of simply going! Sending tons of alofas from American Samoa as I traverse oceania for more stories!
The way you captured & narrated Hawaii is mind blowing. Don’t give this up cause One day, the UA-cam algorithm will catch on & your channel will be lit! Mahalo! 🌺🌋
It’s a slow and steady process but I’m embracing the journey! Not for fame, but for the betterment of all! #aloha 💚🥰 mahalo for the support and looking forward to expanding across oceania
@@ozragland3455 Thank you for sharing & I agree - his passion for the land & its people just resonates. I feel that the more people it reaches, the more awareness is spread. I wasn’t talking about UA-cam money or fame… but a global awareness. A connection. A resurrection of culture.
This is the most beautifully edited, miraculously paced, authentically passionately motivated, raw educational video on Hawaii, I’ve ever watched on this platform!!! This video deserves an award!! I am fortunate and blessed to be voyager along for the journey! Thank you so much, Anthony!! 🙏🏽
What I'm finding most impactful is that I need to learn more about the contents of the video to actually appreciate how good this really is. You need to know more about what is said here. While it's great by itself, it's deeper value is revealed if you dig into the topics raised.
I as a non Hawaiian made this to not HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS or SOLVE any problems, but to raise awareness through these stories to dig deeper for more understanding. If I did that, i succeeded! Mahalo nui Oz
As always I appreciate your deep wholehearted support for my work. You’ve seen just how complex it is and you’ve always pulled through to life me up on those downs! I appreciate you brother
this is an amazing documentary. you have opened up a huge array of knowledge to the world as someone not originally from hawai'i. mahalo for that. also, I am 15 and have studied my history since last march. took lots of notes from this and this was set to be released on my birthday which makes it so much better. mahalo again and shootz@@aperezvoyages
Everyone; especially the persons involved with Lahaina NEED to watch this. The abandoned plantation fields were growing unattended with invasive species. The abandoned irrigation ditches overflow with Maui red dirt into the ocean killing the reef and All in it. Cars cars cars . This Video is very well done. Mahalo .
Aloha and mahalo Anthony for this beautiful video on the kanaka. As a proud Melanesian, I pray that my beautiful brothers and sisters will one day get their land back. I particularly love the segment on language. Please do this for all the islands you tour. God be with you.
It’s inevitable but still a disasterous reality for so many Hawaiians . I’m just glad I could play a roll in sharing their stories 🥹 looking forward to meeting you on this trip 🫂 #oneoceanonepeople
I know it was a mixed barrel of emotions! Mahalo nui for all your aloha support and blessed you were able to be a part of this journey palala! Hope to catch up with you an Shanz when I get back in island
This was an awesome documentary. Love it braddah. Keep up the work to spread the word of how Hawaii’s history needs to be brought to the forefront for the next generation of keiki here in the islands.
Mahalo nui braddah! Ike as portrayed is everything , especially for the keiki to “keep this line going” appreciate the aloha and support for brining this together 🫂✊🏽
Mahalo from Holland, very moving piece, I think every body, mostly tourist who are visiting the islands needs to watch this video, the last several times I visited there, it really pissed me off watching visitors disrespecting the the islands and it's culture, my parents who were born on the islands always told us when visiting the islands always be respectful to the islands, it's people and it's culture, if not then Tutu will twist our ears off. Once again Mahalo from Holland.
Mahalo nui for sharing your mana’o and understandings of the hewa that continues to go on in the islands ! Appreciate your aloha and support! Alofa atu from American samoa
Als het je lukt, probeer eens de Ned. Antillen te bezoeken; praktisch dezelfde historie en ' gevoelens ' qua taal en cultuur en ook jegens de ' nieuwelingen '. Evenzo mooie eilanden !
I'm just a mainland American who has never visited Hawaii because I know I will be ripped to shreds by seeing the vapid western lifestyle be lived in such a heaven on earth. May the indigenous people gain all their islands back and kick the navy out along with all those who came seeking surfing and coconuts, ignorant that everything was stolen at gun point.
Mahalo for sharing this documentary n taking the time to learn about our people n culture n how we are facing the different times that we have been living in, past, present, n our feature. Mahalo Braddah 🤙 🤙 🤙
Most of this info I already knew upon my visit to Maui and throughout my own research over the years but even still I couldn’t help by cry at the end. This is overdue and yet so powerful and inspires new revolutionary motivation, it brings old history of the ancestors and connects to the present and future generations. I pray that the kanaka get their land back and that their culture thrives for generations to come. Blessing to you and all the stories you shed light on. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
"and inspires new revolutionary motivation" - yes, it helps me see that which is wrong. I feel complicit having consumed Hawaii as a tourist a few times. I'm determined that my next visit will be generative and a contribution rather than just consuming the false narrative of America's playground.
Sulang/Thank you so much for sharing our stories in the pacific and shedding light on these real issues brought after colonization. Your work is so important. Much love
Mahalo❤ Perez. My family from Kauai Kekaha if you ever like go I take you my grandpa brother is the king of na pali coast “Patty Boy Malama”. We all sat down and watched this and really respect what you have done to show what our culture is about.
I'm from the Philippines, and I'm always watching Hawaii videos like a walking tour, documentary and history. I admire Hawaiian People because of their pure heart and soul for their land. Thank you for this video. Love and respect for you and to all Hawaiian people. ❤️
Anthony, I love you man 🤍🩵Thank you for teaching us about the island people and the struggles that Hawaiians are faces which is really sad and devastating 🏝️ thanks for sharing this extraordinary experience with us 🙏🏻I’m grateful. This is documentary is really important and beautiful. Love and respect from NY USA 🗽 🇺🇸
I listen to the heartache of my kanaka Maoli family and I just can’t stop tears streaming down my face 😢😢😢😢😢😢…. Stay strong keep your proud heads high 💯🔥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
OSCAR!!! This was Amazing. The details and insights from Native Hawaiians. US is about Power and Greed, not actually for the people. And you shed a true light, on true purity!!!
Beautifully done! Thank you! I have much respect for the life lessons you presented so eloquently. I get it and was lucky to have learned these lessons over 20 years ago from a close friend who lived in Hawaii. He was the first to "spark" my interest in learning that everything is interconnected and constantly evolving. The center of all is love and respect for universal laws. 😀
I was so deeply touched and moved by this film. I was going to write something in the comments sooner (I watched it yesterday) but could not. That's because it deserves a well thought out response. I found you in a very serendipitous, albeit round about, way. I am subscribed to Peter Santinello's podcast. He's in the midst of a 7-part series on Hawaii. In this most recent on that came out yesterday (5/25/24), he spent a lot of time with Elijah. UA-cam's algorithm's sent me Hawaii podcasts after that. That is how I found yours. I really appreciate all that I learned about the history of Hawaii. And, the languages. Sound has energy and vibration. It just sounds soothing to hear it, even though I don't know it. It was wonderful to hear everyones' stories. I love how you didn't just gloss over them with quick sound bytes. You explored each person more deeply. Your own responses to everything were also deeply moving to me. I was awestruck afterwards and felt the impact of your film for a quite a while. I am so glad you created this gem. Thank you for offering it to us all. I am not Hawaiian and have only visited once. However, I felt this story to my core. If I ever go back to Hawaii, I will carry all of this in my heart. Thank you again so much.
Mahalo nui loa from a kanaka. This is the most exemplary video Ive ever seen about my people, my culture & my home. My heart. Im speechlees. And, I cant find words. This made me cry.
They should see the taro on Pohnpei!!! Plants 7 to 10 feet tall, were it would take 5 or more people to harvest one plant with a root that weights 20lbs plus!!! Purple goodness!!!
Have to limit myself when it comes to Hawaii content as it's so heartbreaking to face what white men have done to every native culture they encountered and conquered and the lands they stole & polluted. Part of my past and my soul belongs to Hawaii and will forever. Have considered going back, but like those in this video, I can't afford to live there. I last returned 35 years ago and it was very difficult & emotional for me. Not sure if I could handle it again. Thank you for giving the local Hawaiians respect. It's amazing after so many years of disrespect they can even tolerate looking at haoles. I wish them a kinder future.
Kanaka deserve some form of a breather and a platform to share their voice that’s been suppressed for too damn long ! Mahalo for the support! Please share away, to spread the word and truth
Absolutely the BEST exploration of Hawaii and the aina I’ve ever seen. Having lived there 2001-2003 And visiting and having studied to become aware of the history my heart has been touched by this heartfelt and heartbreaking presentation
I’m glad you taken the time to educate and soak in all the knowledge that you had in your own time. To where watching this was better understood! Mahalo nui Gayle
Coming from Hawaii for my birthday this month, the tears that I have shed was of what I didn’t do but felt it.uffff!! Thank you so much for sharing, I just bumped into this channel a few hours ago, job well done🙏
So glad you still had a chance to view and see the perspective of the indigenous of the islands you just came from! Perspective is everything yea? 💓 happy belated birthday ❣️
@@ozragland3455 there is a book I read it’s called Sea People: The Puzzle of Polynesia by Christina Thompson. It’s mostly covering Polynesia but still sheds light on the similarities across Oceania
As I told my host here in American Samoa. Something I’ve noticed is that, rooting into one’s culture is a major key in staying out of trouble or into bs (drugs, violence, etc)
Aloha e Anthony! This was the best and most moving documentary on the Hawaiian Nation I’ve ever seen. I had tears in the middle of it. More people need to see this! I’ve been on the continent for several years but I promise I will come back soon. Mahalo nui loa ! ❤🌺
Aloha nui kjx! Im so glad you were moved and had the chance to really take in such a heavy video! Im hoping some some day soon i and find a sponsor willing to remaster it or even market it out. More eyes really do need to see it. Other than that i hope you get to return home assuming you are Kanaka maoli as well. Alofa atu from Tutuila

I need to thank you in the bottom of my heart for this video. And for the time in the effort that you put into this video at the understanding. Thank you for using your platform To share this important information. Thank you for opening your heart.
Thank you so much for making that film.My heart goes up every 5 mn ❤ From a french girl that had the chance to live 3 yrs and a half on Mauï ( hana, haiku, kuau, Ulapalakua, .... ) I want to finish my life over there! I will be back 💞
Mahalo nui loa for sharing this powerful documentary. Your words have resonated deeply with me, as I've personally grappled with many of the issues you've brought to light. I visited Oahu for 2 weeks and fell in love with it. 10 years later I returned as a military member and was stationed there for 4 years. I immersed myself in the culture, studying 'olelo (vocab only), delving into the history and legends of the islands, the wars, and the chiefs. I've had the privilege of taking my keiki to see heiau, to volunteer in kalo fields, to visit the other islands, and to teach them the Hawaiian culture and traditions. I love the Polynesian Cultural Center. I love the Bishop Museum. I love the ancient technologies (when to plant crops, when/how to fish, how to navigate, star charts, when and where to build, etc.) As a mainlander, I know I am not, and cannot be kanaka, but I feel connected to the people and the land - I feel like keiki o ka 'aina. My heart tells me that. I know that your video is not designed to produce an answer to any of the issues. I am torn. I know the injustices that occurred in the past; the freedoms that were stolen, but also recognizing that because of those injustices and the military presence, I have been exposed to a people, a place, and a culture that feels like home. How can I reconcile these opposing points? I don’t know. But I hope to be able to do something to help preserve the future of such a determined, amazing, and beautiful people and culture despite the dark past.
This was a very nice production very well done and it shows the beauty of Hawaii. I should feel bad because I didn't do this myself. I worked in radio the late 60s early 70s. I advocated for Hawaiian sovereignty and the return of Kaho'olawe( after a military clean up for safety. Then the U.S.A. Build a University for Hawaiian blood students to attend for free. I beaten up behind the radio station and told to shut up or go fishing with them. That was Aloha Friday pick of sunset. Monday my boss told me advertisers were complaining that I was "insulting the military"& for me to stop or else. A friend in Texas had called me about a project in Dallas. I resigned , I cried, I left. Hawaii should be returned to Hawaiians. I moved back in 1990- priced out by 2002. Im on mainland my heart is in Halawa Valley , Molokai...💔🥹🤙🏼🧙🏻♂️🙏🏻
So beautiful. How you are able to show what the “real Hawaii’ is, and the people. They are all so strong and kind willing to teach so that there will be change. I hope I see in this lifetime the sovereignty returned to Hawaiians and away from.the Americans.
Just stumbled across this scrolling through UA-cam & I gotta say this is one of the best films on here that embraces our culture as Kanaka, teaching all those who come across this beautiful piece.. all while you have journeyed to learn for yourself. You’ve become apart of something bigger than just self. Holomua, through life & your future endeavors palala. You da man!
This comment is everything palala and truly felt this one as i continue to traverse moananuiakea! I mahalo you for this! Sending alofas from American Samoa 🌺🇦🇸🫂
Mahalo nui to whom made this video you are so so right I travel an worked travel the islands much love an respect to those put hands a knowledge in this video
That would be me brother! ☺️ this was a lot of hard work , mostly hard on the heart of realities portrayed! But the greatest blessing to be amongst kanaka maoli
Wow, just wow. I am Kanaka living in Louisiana due to a multitude of reasons and this hit hard. It was the best thing I’ve watched in a long time. A hui mau.
Thank you so much for capturing and truly showing the beauty of my culture, there’s so many misconceptions of us who we are as people WE ARE ALIVE AND WE ARE HAWAIIAN⛰️❤️❤️
I am Hawaiian, I moved to the main land when i was 16, i had children here however my oldest is trying to get into University of Hawaii Manoa, we are hoping to get her approved to go in the fall, I have been trying to get her there even if I have to work another job to send her, Her and my youngest, I have tired my hardest to teach them the Hawaiian ways of life but I forget a lot of it being in the main land so long but my family helps us, I know I raised my children in the aloha way, I hope one day we can all afford to come home I miss home so much and watching this made me miss home so much more, thank you for making this, it helped me to understand more of what lives inside of me, sometimes being up here for so long you forget, But I never forget where I am from and where ill die, I will die in Hawaii because that is were my soul is.
I lived on the Big Island for 25 years .. I fell in love with the Aina and it's people. Hawaii's Joy is my Joy .. Hawaii's Sorrow is my Sorrow! I am not Hawaiian by blood ,but of Heart. No one can ever tell me I'm not Hawaiian.❤
Also brah. Your Spiritual journey is Touching and it is inspiring. I first started following you during your travels I am originally from guam. Micronesian polynesian mix. Filipino chamorro Samoan and tongan. But O'Ahu ,Waianae Makaha is Home. I have never felt a spiritual connection to any other place in the world.Like this place standing between those great majestic mountains. The culture the land the people the food the Hospitality.thee real Aloha way. And I see it has touched you as well. There is no going back. We are Creatures of light and love we are stewards of All of life and the culture.we are The Pasifika peoples. And as you learned blood quantum does not matter .you too now are one of us. I cried and sang this entire video. Mahalo Nui Loa
Mahalo Nui e Oscar! He kama'aina no Inidonesia mai wau. He haumana 'olelo Hawai'i au . Noho au i kēia manawa i Moku o Keawe. This documentary is so gold!!
Thank you for this video. I am over here on the mainland Los Angeles, California. I just left the big island of Hawaii to check check on my property or should I say home in the part called HPP. One day I will move to the big island of Hawaii because everyone is so nice over there and I would say nice to me. I’ve never had any trouble over there with any of the locals everybody is so nice compared to the people in the mainland everybody over here and I’m not saying everybody but a lot of people are a bunch of assholes and all the reckless toxic behaviors over on the mainland so the sad part is I’m back at home here in Los Angeles and I cannot wait to get the hell out of here again which will be soon. I love Hawaii and I will say thank you for this video. Thank you. I hope this makes sense because I’m talking into my phone and have a lot to say but only can put so much in the comment section. Thank you, Mahalo.
This is the second time I watched your work. There’s so much meat in this. Followed you on TikTok thanks to one of my Kanaka mutuals - whakawhetai/deepest of gratitude for creating this project! What a legacy to leave behind. And that I, a Māori who, as much I would love to travel all over Moananuiakiwa and meet all my cousins, this is the place to go to. If anyone want to know who we are as one ocean, one people - I will send them here! As you know, many who visit the pacific don’t have any intention to connect with us and appropriate, exploit us, our people, in all aspects and in particular in media! Your documentary series is mana - enhancing 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Mauri Ora.
My heart was deeply touched as I had the opportunity to watch this documentary. I am kanaka maoli and am so wanting to go back home to my aina. One day I will do that. Mahalo nui loa
I’m still crying watching this😢😢😢😢… but I’m proud for you… NEVER GIVE UP ON WHO YOU ARE .. TABUSORO 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️ Take courage from Israel, 2000 years in diaspora then retuned to their ancestral homeland given by Jiova 🙏, and see them strong in their homeland… you my kanaka Maoli family are able to do the same !!!💯🥰🥰🥰🌺🌺🌺🌺
16:29 pidgin sounds like a language stew (every when every all). i watched other videos and learned there's the language council (colonizer) and then there's ōlelo hawaiian (roots heritage). -- 3 streams and then there's the more intact Ni'ihau where a less people retained more roots.
Great documentary piece! Mahalo Nui Loa Anthony for understanding and living the Hawaiian culture to include ōlelo Hawai’i I really felt your tears you have a big heart and soul! Again Mahalo from all the Hawaiians and Hawaiians at heart “ʻIKE AKU, ʻIKE MAI, KŌKUA AKU, KŌKUA MAI, PELA IHO LA KA NOHANA ʻOHANA “
Mahalo nui Uncle for taking the time to support via supers and to take the time to share your aloha after viewing my documentary! Kanaka have an integral special place in this voyagers heart, but I know you saw and felt that 🥹🌺
Mahalo for the video bro. It was truly inspiring. You put it all into an amazing video and I am sure this will reach everyone that needs to hear this message. I'm a Mexican born human and I've been living in Hilo for over 3 years now. This place has changed me for ever and taught me more than I could ever imagine. Thank you for capturing this and spreading the knowledge. Aloha 🤙🏼
Aloha ❤ from Germany. Mahalo nui loa for your amazing documentation of the "real" Hawai´i. I´m born in the northern part of Germany in this life. But I´m sure, I have been serveral lifetimes there. In the "old" Hawai´i. So I feel more and more the spirit and the wisdom. I feel my mission to teach the wisdom here in Germany - and give the lomi lomi massage - with the style from Aunty Margaret Machado. Aloha nui loa 🌺to you - from our HALE ALOHA 🌈
I just cried and cried. I love Hawaii and visit it as often as I can. This was truly an eye opener and the message was strong and dear to my heart. Fight the good fight.
Eh brah, mahalo for taking time to show people around the globe this amazing documentary, you hit every part, truly amazing, I’m form Maui now I stay Hilo, I have forwarded this all of my Ohana and friends and they are passing on to others, Mahalo Nui for you time.
Mahalo nui for taking time to show aloha and support for the hard work this took to put together mostly on my own, but partly a kakou effort from many! 🌺🌺🌺
This is an exceptional video. I have learned more in the first 20 minutes than all of the years I have spent there. Looking forward to watching the rest of it. Mahalo nui loa A. Perez.
I would like to know more about you personally, A. Perez. You look local, a mixed breed of sorts😂 hapa this hapa that but your English isn't broken at all, and I cannot detect the slightest rise and fall of an island dialect. (I can usually tell having spent almost 40 yrs. in HI.) I don't expect a response but I'm very interested in your personal background (family/origins etc) why Oceana, why the Pacific region?. R u genetically connected or just spiritually drawn? Very much curious. Because YOU Sir, HAVE NAILED IT. YOU HAVE COME THE CLOSEST TO BEING HAWAIIAN with out being Hawaiian AND CAPTURING HAWAIIANNESS THAT I'VE EVER SEEN. I WISH I COULD DISTRIBUTE THIS FILM EVERYWHERE. Folks need to know!!!!. I am in awe of your work. Great Job!!
Aloha nui Ronda! Love this comment and mahalo you for taking the time to ask questions and express all the beautiful words you have for the work I’ve done in this project. To be brief I’m originally from New York area with Puerto Rican and Dominican heritage. My love for oceania began when I first visited Hawai’i in 2017. But especially so when i travel Aotearoa to Tonga, Fiji Tuvalu, Kiribati in 2018. And 2022 to Palau where I noted the beautiful similarities across the vast pacific. I guess it’s a spiritual connect and a cultural connection, especially so as a Hispanic. But my time with kanaka was very personal because I got grounded with them through covid which got me into hula , opening the door to everything else. And by the time the pacific reopened, I was Hawaiian by heart full of kanaka values that are now carrying me around oceania with those values. That’s the best way I can summarize me and my time with kanaka beyond this film and hope it all makes sense. Please, any word out and sharing of this film will mot only support the awareness and truth for kanaka. But helps support my Oceania initiatives with One Ocean, One People🫶🏽
I agree 💯!! I lived Notth Shore Oahu & programmed an AM radio station. I got very into Hawaii & the sovereignty movement. After a lot of military back lash for my advocacy for the return of Kokoholawe to the Hawaiian people! But clean it up and put in infrastructure. Then get the hell out of the way. Very long story short, I was beaten by two Military type white guys, one evening as I came out the back door of the radio station. Followed by the owner calling me in for backlash from advertisers. I went to Corpus Christi. Moved back to Oahu 1990 to 2001. I love Hawaiian people and their islands. I pray to return to say " Aloha" when I left I thot I'd be back in one year.... life and money. I feel those tears... I know that heart pain.... you are now and always will be kamahina. You'll go back. I have to in order to get my heart & body in the same place. Excellent work from an old radio man.🤙🏼✌️🙏🏻
I think to learn of one’s Hawaiian Heritage is important. Imagine how hard it is for kids to learn and speak all their nationality. It’s all up to the parents what Culture they want their kids to learn just as what culture the child themselves wants to learn when they are older. Kids will be able travel.
I loved watching this!🙏🏽 As much as I do know about my culture, I literally know NOTHING😥... and this breaks my heart 💔 I'm still trying to reconnect with my culture but am struggling with who, when, where do I go to do this. Guidance is what I seek 🙏🏽💯🙌🌺🤙
I learned so much from this video. Thank you for making it. Six times in my life I traveled to Hawaii, my biggest connection was agriculture once the tourist buzz wore off. Seeing what is going one there is very nice to see. If I was younger I would move there and work the land and learn the language, but now my old brain cannot learn the words, its embarrasing actually. So I stay home here in Arizona/New Mexico. Its so important to learn a decent amount of a language in any part of the world to be part of the oldest community.
This is true! I was raised by my full blooded great grandparents parents. We spoke our Hawaiian languages daily. However when I went to public school, it was forbidden. Each school. day my greatgrand patents picked me up after school from my kindergarten class, we spoke Hawaiian. When they passed away, there was no one to continue to speak my Hawaiian language. I miss both my greatgrand parents so much. I'm a senior citizen now & so happy 2 of my moopuna speak our language ❤
As a proud kanaka I want to thank you from the bottom of my pu’uwai for what I consider the best documentary on and about my ancestors, the present people, language and most importantly our way of life…. I wish nothing but the best for you in life and may ke akua bless you abundantly 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Kanaka Maoli & hope it helped to see the REAL HAWAII.
I’d love to hear your thoughts & testimonies in the comments below! 🌺
Please stay tuned for more stories celebrating the rich heritage of Hawai’i & the Pacific!

I hope my family will never forget their heritage, learn all they can and remember that we all are family and to hold dear the islands, the rivers and oceans. Please May we become sovereign one day.
Love to see your efforts to at least provide that opportunity for your young generation 🫶🏽

Its noteworthy that Anthony is not "working the algorithm," he's creating great content for us to discover.
@@ozragland3455
Thank you for sharing & I agree - his passion for the land & its people just resonates. I feel that the more people it reaches, the more awareness is spread. I wasn’t talking about UA-cam money or fame… but a global awareness. A connection. A resurrection of culture.
@@BrendaLynn. I love your words... may everyone help it spread.
I appreciate you both for the aloha and support ☺️
This is the most beautifully edited, miraculously paced, authentically passionately motivated, raw educational video on Hawaii, I’ve ever watched on this platform!!! This video deserves an award!! I am fortunate and blessed to be voyager along for the journey! Thank you so much, Anthony!! 🙏🏽
@jasonmamoa Watch this video!!! 🙏🏽
@@aperezvoyages "raise awareness through these stories to dig deeper for more understanding." You certainly kicked me in the butt. Mahalo
I join with those who support Anthony as he spreads respect and care for the people of Oceania.
So much aloha and appreciation as always for your deep rooted support for this! You know especially how complex this has been! 🙇🏻
this is an amazing documentary. you have opened up a huge array of knowledge to the world as someone not originally from hawai'i. mahalo for that. also, I am 15 and have studied my history since last march. took lots of notes from this and this was set to be released on my birthday which makes it so much better. mahalo again and shootz@@aperezvoyages

Mahalo .
Something happened with the Akaka Bill ;
Mahalo nui for sharing! This is slowly reaching ALL eyes!💙
If you live/lived there...u know. My heart breaks for friends and ohana there.
Incredible work! Hard not to tear up as a kanaka watching this. Mahalo Palala

I teared up. That recurring image of his hand on the earth. OMG
Mahalo Nui Loa Kanaka!🤙🏾🌺 Such a great & passionate presentation of a Beautiful Spiritual Culture.❤️💫
Most powerful documentary I've seen that captures the true essence and challenges of a Hawaiian. The betrayal and hurt is real. Mahalo Braddah.
Mahalo nui for the aloha palala 🙏🏼
Just saw this. One of the best films, documentary, show, I've seen in Hawaii.. respect....
Mahalo nui for taking the time to watch the real Hawai’i 🫵🏽🌺
I'm just a mainland American who has never visited Hawaii because I know I will be ripped to shreds by seeing the vapid western lifestyle be lived in such a heaven on earth.

Anything for kanaka/the lahui! Whove taken so much time and trust in me to share their stories and struggles 🫂
This is exactly the intention of this project and I hope to deliver as the algorithm carries this out to sea for the world to see the real Hawai’i
Thank you Anthony for this gorgeous program. You have captured the beauty of the people, land and spirit of Hawaii. Safe travels my friend.

I have no words to express how immensely precious this is…..thank you for the time and effort put.
Mahalo for the aloha and support 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I'm curious about what existing resources unite the people of Oceania across the many miles and diverse interests...

I would love to see that day myself 💙💙💙

I’ve never had any trouble over there with any of the locals everybody is so nice compared to the people in the mainland everybody over here and I’m not saying everybody but a lot of people are a bunch of assholes and all the reckless toxic behaviors over on the mainland so the sad part is I’m back at home here in Los Angeles and I cannot wait to get the hell out of here again which will be soon. Same man 🙏🏼
This is an exceptional video. I have learned more in the first 20 minutes than all of the years I have spent there. Looking forward to watching the rest of it. Mahalo nui loa A. Perez.
Thumbs up 👍 Anthony
👍🏽💚💛
Then get the hell
out of the way. Very
long story short, I was beaten by two Military type white guys, one evening as I came out the back door of the radio station. Followed by the owner calling me in for backlash from advertisers.
I went to Corpus Christi. Moved back to Oahu 1990 to 2001.
I love Hawaiian people and their islands. I pray to return to say
" Aloha" when I left I thot I'd be back in one year.... life and money. I feel those tears... I know that heart pain.... you are now and always will be kamahina. You'll go back. I have to in order to get my heart & body in the same place.
Excellent work from an old radio man.🤙🏼✌️🙏🏻
Looking forward with anticipation 😮
Cant wait to share with story brother!
Mahalo nui loa!! As a kanaka this really touched my soul!!! God bless!!! Much love and Aloha!!
Mahalo nui for sharing dear friend! Malama pono 🌺

Thank you for making this documentary.
Thank you for watching and supporting my work😃
Beautiful content 🙌🏾
💙🙏🏼
I learned so much from this video. Thank you for making it. Six times in my life I traveled to Hawaii, my biggest connection was agriculture once the tourist buzz wore off. Seeing what is going one there is very nice to see. If I was younger I would move there and work the land and learn the language, but now my old brain cannot learn the words, its embarrasing actually. So I stay home here in Arizona/New Mexico. Its so important to learn a decent amount of a language in any part of the world to be part of the oldest community.
What a blessing it is and has been to contribute to the greater community of kanaka and community of those from the islands
Amazing, thank you for capturing this
Thank you this touched my heart and I stand with you
Amazing. I’m Samoan and I can understand Niihau a little. Has similarities to Te Reo Maori.
Mahalo uso for this 🤙🏽
Hey uce! ni’ihauan def sounds very much like other poly languages. I think it’s next connection is Marquesan ! I appreciate the alofas and support 🫂🌱
Blessed are we. Thank you for sharing your story and journey of Hawaii.
Mahalo Nui Loa ❤
This is true! I was raised by my full blooded great grandparents parents. We spoke our Hawaiian languages daily. However when I went to public school, it was forbidden. Each school. day my greatgrand patents picked me up after school from my kindergarten class, we spoke Hawaiian. When they passed away, there was no one to continue to speak my Hawaiian language.
I miss both my greatgrand parents so much. I'm a senior citizen now & so happy 2 of my moopuna speak our language ❤
So happy to bring you back to your kupunas stories and to the āina! Love to see and hear this
AWESOME! THANK U FOR SHARING....
