Congrats Anna! 🎉❤
I enjoyed my medical SW internship. I was working with adults, mostly with behavioral health struggles, so very different. I wanted to stay in the hospital setting post grad, but i have a 4-year-old son and i don't want to work every other weekend and holiday while he's little. I decided to stay with the hospital network, but move to their outpatient behavioral health program. I start tomorrow! I'm so nervous. My first job post grad with my MSW! It's orientation but I'm so nervous. It's all you did your first week, which I'm very familiar with seeing as i interned with the hospital system - just now in a different program. I think switching from student to clinician is what's making me most nervous. Any words of encouragement or wisdom would be appreciated!
Again, congrats! The families and babies (and the hospital) are lucky to have you! 🎉
You got this!!
Your joy is contagious! I’m so excited for your future videos as you start really getting into this new job.
ahh thank you 💗💗💪🏻
Yay for opaque bags and glass containers!!! You are going to love your new job.
never thought I’d see the day!
Hiii! I actually accidentally came across your channel. I’m a hospital social worker in NYC and although I started about 6 months ago, I share the same excitement you have and I hope we always do 🥹 from one STEM girly to another, best of luck in your career 🫶🏽
It is so exciting seeing you start your new job. As I told you before, I worked for that hospital for about 12 years. I was in a different role, but now that I want to go to school for Social Work, it's exciting to see things from a different view. My first location I worked at was the one with the shuttles.. it was annoying at first because for my first couple of years we could park at the hospital. I'm so excited to see your journey. I actually thought about returning to the hospital once I finished school. Can't wait to see more!!! Also, you have a gym at your location if you didn't know that already. 🤗
I'm so happy for you! I've been watching all of your videos for a while and I just wanted to say thank you so much for vlogging your journey to accomplish your professional dreams
I love watching your videos!! I start my MSW program in 2 weeks, and am going to be working solely as a therapist in a university counseling center. This has always seemed to me to be my dream job, but I’ve been recently interested in branching out and seeing what other social workers do, so I shadowed a former professor of mine who’s a social worker in the hospital and I liked the work as an alternative to long term therapy, so it’s so funny that your video popped up that you were going into the medical field. A sign from the universe? Maybe 😊 Best wishes on your new job, you’re gonna do great!
This video is so helpful! I wanna be a medical social worker it’s nice to see a realistic “day(s) in the life”
so glad you enjoy them!! i try for all of my vlogs to be an authentic look at what life is really like as a social worker 💗
Congrats on the new job! I’m so excited to follow along this new chapter! I’m also starting a new job in a few weeks so it’s feels nice to know that someone else is going through all the changes and adjustments 😊
thank you!! yes, change is so weird 💗
You are amazingly motivational. Thank you for all the morning sunshine. :)
This sounds like such a fulfilling and interesting role to hold 😊Congrats!!!!

Are they any other different licensing to be a medical social worker compared to ur previous job? Is this job focused on geriatrics care? Congrats on ur new job!🎉
My previous job didn’t require me to have a license but I got my LMSW anyways! This job does require an LMSW, but nothing additional. It’s pediatrics!
@@AnnaBea thanks ur videos have been very helpful in navigating my way through. I’m so excited to follow through your new path. Congrats once again! ❤
ahh Anna! yay for good, wanted, and awaited change! i have a question - are you liking Stories From the Tenants Downstairs?? i saw it on your insta story and looked it up… looks cool! i need a new book to read at nap time for the kids at work (daycare!)
oh also, people keep asking me if studying social work means i’ll have the title of case worker! i’m not sure how to answer that, esp bc idk if i’ll do school, medical, or another kind of social work! we had a discussion in my intro to SW class last semester about case worker vs social worker which made it clearer but i’m still unsure of how to answer! any tips or info?
I’m in my MSW right now and I don’t have any hospital experience but I do have a clinical experience. Hopefully I can work in hospitals even without hospital experience.
I didn’t have any hospital experience either heading in! You’ve got this 🫶🏻
@@AnnaBea Thank you for assuring me! Since this is the case, would you be able to share how the interview process went for you when you were interviewing for the hospital? And what are some tips and tricks for you when interviewing for the hospital?
Hi Anna, congrats! I'm new to your channel and I'm wondering if this is your first medical sw role ever?
this role was my second social work job ever! first was in criminal justice field, so this one was a big change
Do you have your lcsw ?????
LMSW! Associate-level license in my state
Hello Anna! This is Kaylin, from CA! Could you make a video on how to become a social worker? I started to attend a JC right before the pandemic and it was such and awkward season for me academically. I dropped out after a year since I really wasn't sure what profession to pursue. Since then, I've become a stay-at-home mom. I've had time to think about a career path to take and I believe social work is it for me. Despite me being a new mom, I really want to invest in myself and my future. What tips and pieces of advice could you give to me on where to start?
Hi Kaylin! I will add this to the list to make a video about :) but so you don't have to wait:
- look into bachelors of social work programs around you, either in-person or online. online social work programs are growing but usually, you can still count on doing an internship in person even if your classes are online
- to get a master of social work, you can have a bachelors in any subject, but having a bachelor of social work shortens a masters program to just one year (you'd enter as an "advanced-standing" student)
- while masters are not required, it does open many doors of opportunity for you!
- I always suggest volunteering when you can and where you can so you start getting a feel of the area / population you may want to work with in the future. obviously, the population you work with can change over time (mine did) but I feel volunteering can be a fun way to find what you feel passionate about!
