Peter Tuddenham had quite a versatile voice which he also contributed to some vocal guest roles for Doctor Who, as well as visually portraying the Time Lord Voix in Devious. R.I.P., Peter. 🌌
Imagine my joy in stumbling across this video. I was an avid Blakes 7 watcher back in the day. We all used to talk about it at school the next day. I am now 57 and this just brings me nostalgic joy. Thanks to the late peter for bringing these sci-fi machines to life. I am seriously thinking of using ZEN on my answer phone
As a 60 year old fan, I loved stumbling across this video and listening to this talented man 🙂👍🏽. I wish I could change the shutdown chord on my computer to Orac saying… “I am closing down. I have much to do. You have engaged my circuits on your petty affairs for far too long!”
I once asked Peter to do an Orac impression at a B7 con in Egham way back in 1988 and in perfect Orac voice he said. 'I would if I could but I can't!'. Terrific chap and its his skill as an actor that he managed to turn Zen and Orac in to really popular and memorable characters.
Still makes me grin like a schoolboy! The treat to be allowed to watch Blakes 7. And then years later to have this gem of a clip. Thank you. (ORAC - booooo. Slave - booooo. Zen - 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗. Liberator would've crashed and burned way sooner with me asking Zen endless needless questions just to listen to the answers.)
This is fantastic. Zen will always be the best. It’s amazing to be able to watch the late Peter in action he seems so happy performing his art. I really love this.
Personally I prefer Orac because he's such a punchable little s*d. Anyone who's used a PC for any length of time has felt it go 'Orac' on them at least once. "No, I do not wish to change the sound output device, thank you! The current option is perfectly sufficient, and I am quite occupied with far more important tasks!"
@@blethigg9320 I would take the peace of mind of Zen any day...although Orac does seem to more accurately reflect the feel of now...but I would hope for Zen....
What I wouldn't give for such an answering message! Zen and Orac were great voice concepts/characterisations and while Tuddenham did an equally good technical job with Slave, I never liked the concept.
I'd love to do something like this! I've recorded my own message/answering tapes in the past as various SF characters, but never got around to trying it professionally. Life and stuff kept getting in the way of a pro career at doing anything of this nature. What you might call a 'duty of care'!
I remember Eddie Izard doing a sketch where Star Trek et-al would be boring with a British accent - I counter that Zen and Orac blows Hollywood out of the park EVERY TIME (even Slave but sorry - to a lesser degree)
@@rickyj5547 Star Trek was over-powered, with the backing of a galactic nation and had a hundred something + crew. Blake 7 was less than ten on board a ship that was up against a federation of tyranny. There's hardly any comparison.
Brilliant. I would have been there all day thinking up filthy messages for Orac to say... maybe you were, maybe you did? 😂 Seriously, every time I cut a sheet of perspex I hear Orac screaming insults at me!
Not so hard, copy and paste the link in a UA-cam to MP3 converter ( for example this one: www.onlinevideoconverter.com/mp3-converter ) and then cut down the audio file with an audio editor such as Adobe Audition or Audacity ( the latter is open source and thus free ).
This is such a special video, thank you for sharing this with Earth. I think his Zen voice is my favorite. 🤖
Peter Tuddenham's contribution to Blake's 7 very much helped make the series special.
Stansman63 Very much so. Thank you
Peter and Dudley Simpson were the unsung heroes.

i always wondered who it was that did the voice of orac, zen and slave .

@londonlore5881 yes, wouldn't that be great!
Can't help feeling that if voice-interactive services today sounded like Zen, things would make a lot more sense
Awesome. What a pro. He made three distinctly different machines into real characters. To achieve that with just one would have been an achievement.
Extremely talented - I know someone who had seen Blake's 7, but genuinely thought Orac, Zen, & Slave were all voiced by different actors.
He is the master petter master of voice and talent
A 1 point along time when the series had started.they did use the existing 1.?
I love the way he flips straight from Zen to Slave without skipping a beat; what a pro' he was.
Always loved Zen's voice. Wish I had a computer that would talk like that.
Amen!
Yes and all we've got is Alexa
I loved Zen too also I think that Zen was one of the most underrated characters on the show.
Excellent! I wish I had that series of messages!!

Brilliant! Great respect to Peter Tuddenham!🌅🥇
Fantastic gentleman with the voice difftent I never no he did so many voices Amazing
Orac you are awesome and always will be loved how you made Paul Darrow(RIP) step up ; )
Just rediscovered this today and still fantastically funny. Who needs Siri/Alexa/Google Whatsisname anyway when you could have any Orac, Slave or Zen?
quite possibly one of the best things I have ever seen ☺
Glad you found this and uploaded it - gosh we all look young in the background!
A very welcome flashback. Going to see if I can cut it up and use as introducing to my message bank
Awesome... each one so different.
Amazing...Met peter a couple of times...what a true Gent....RIP
Brilliant absolutely brilliant
Zen voice was amazing
three holes in one in a row... a TRUE legend...
What a gem this is! Thank you for making this available.
This made me realise that I miss Zen.
Confirmed.
I had no idea they were all the same person. Great ones, especially Zen.
awesome & touching at the same time...love seeing his range here, I often forget he did Slave too. Thx for posting :)
Loved Zen's voice and Orac, at work in 1986 we made a copy of Orac for an exhibition display, not as good as original!!, well done Peter!
hes a legend ! made all three such characters and made a huge contribution to blakes seven ! r.i.p . the batman.
id buy these soundbites and use them on my mobile !
FASCINATING ,fascinating ,A thousand years here would be too short ...
Very obvious why this video has no dislikes
FYI ~ This video now stands at 1000+ Likes and 1 Dislike...
@@DaviesMartinezBeats That dislike is off Servalan. Ignore her, she's just envious.
@@chrisparkes2179 - I concur with your comment concerning The Space Bitch...

What a little gem this is! I laughed so hard!
How fantastic!
How cool would it be to have Zen answer your phone!
Even as an answerphone message, Zen is still the most impressive computer in sci fi.
Pure brilliance!
Excellent, he was very much part of the team
What an awesome guy, i wish i had met him.
i got goosebumps...brilliant upload. legend
Absolutely superb!
Particularly love Orac's voice

Numinous20111 I reckoned that’s the whole point of slave, to be horrified.
Wish my Google assistant sounded like Zen.
this is amazing!
Just Brilliant
That was awesome !!! 😃
Very well done.
LOL,that's brill, would love an orac on my answerphone,
Truly awsome
So, so, so much love for this!
great-super vocal talent-thanks !!!
I love to take the audio from this and when people call and they get put through to the answering machine service they get the voice of Zen.
quite easy to do with audacity :)

True awesomeness, brings back memories of tacky sets which were usually set in Quarries....
+Jerry Hendy Quarries guaranteed no public spectators to interrupt the filming I suppose.
Obviously those Blake's 7 episodes were filmed there in between Doctor Who episodes ;-).
If you watch ua-cam.com/video/LQn-iXhepyI/v-deo.html you'll see that they were making them simultaneously.
Goosebumps.
Awesome.
They should have had Peter do K9’s voice during the 17th season or Dr Who
I remember Eddie Izard doing a sketch where Star Trek et-al would be boring with a British accent - I counter that Zen and Orac blows Hollywood out of the park EVERY TIME (even Slave but sorry - to a lesser degree)
Blakes 7 is better than star trek. With people that you care about. And watch out find out how they get on in the episode

Astonishing. :-)
Thanks for this - great memories / top characters

I wish SOMEONE would start broadcasting Blakes 7 again.
If you can get it “Brit Box” streaming service are showing it. I just wish someone would add UFO and Space 1999 to the streaming world!
Brilliant!!

this may be my new favourite video on UA-cam. anyone know if these are still available?
Excellent.
Thank you.
Zen is great. Classic, classic sci-fi. I wonder if they intentionally made Orac's background noise sound like a drunk mosquito?
Magical man
Loved Orac and Zen, Slave sounded too apologetic for my liking, but if you are a slave, fair enough.
Agreed...for the latter why would one install such a voice for an onboard computer...
Haaa how good he's a bloody legend 👍🏻
Wow how did they do the Zen effect over his voice I wonder
Yes orac be great as Siri etc
Ive always wanted that ambient sound effect 😍

Excellent
