I would give anything for my daughter to experience Universal and Disney back in the 90s it was such a magical time, we just came back a few days ago and while my daughter had a blast, a piece of that magic was missing for me.
It’s because they got rid of practical effects! They used to use real fire and prop pieces…. Now it’s all just screens. I hate it. Also the movie IPs kinda stink now but that’s just the times. I miss the Beetlejuice show 😭
I miss this park. My first time here was at 3. Then I went back in 95 at age 5 and every other year after until I was 14. I just came back from Orlando and I’m shocked by how much it changed. I do feel that they should not have gotten rid of the original rides that made the park. This was a great video as a reminder of my childhood.
Thank you so much for recording this! I’ve lived in Orlando since 92 and all of this is matching with the memories of my Universal Studio experience when I was a kid. Loving seeing this, good stuff.
This was the first year I went. My parents divorced in '89 and it didn't go well for me and my sister. My parents somehow pulled it together enough to spend a week and half together for a family trip to Orlando. Everyone was jazzed for Disney, but all I wanted was Universal. It was amazing. Rode everything except Jaws, which was shut down at the time. Didn't make it back until my honeymoon in 2012. I was devastated to see what had happened. There was like a physical ache seeing what happened to BTTF, and I missed Jaws closure by a week. I never got to ride it. I'm down here with my kids this week, today's our last day, and I took them to Universal and showed them around. Pointed out stuff that used to be. It still hurts to see it. I stumbled upon the Universal Legacy Store at the exit/entrance to Islands Of Adventure. If anyone sees this and long for the old park, seek this store out!! A TON of old props from the original rides are in there along with a bunch of retro merch. Not ashamed to say I picked it all up. They even have 2 of the original proton packs from the Ghostbusters performance show. Doc's jacket. Full T2 ride suit. Jaws ride props. Everything. One of the store employees said there's a lot of talk going around about Universal doing a bunch of legacy stuff at their upcoming new expansion. I hope he's right. A lot of cast members I talked to a couple days ago miss it as much as we do.
I’m a bit younger so I don’t have the same attachments to the older rides (I was scared of a lot of them haha) but I’d give anything to ride them again. Especially Earthquake the Big One, I remember it so vividly.
Great video, videos sure can bring back the feelings more than any photo ever can, we 1st went in 92. 93, 94, 97 and few more times after, really dont remember JP being inside that building, thought was always Horror make up show, and had the Mummy Bus outside I remember one year, the whole park has such a feel in the early and mid 90's. very charming indeed, no mobile phones, just Dads and kid with cameras, I collect a lot of merch from this period of time too.
Wow! Great footage. This park was so charming. As everyone else is saying in here - it is really shocking just how much things have changed. Idk how I feel about it. It’s like everything original was gutted without any care.
Save this footage forever!! I went in 98 to the Nickelodeon studios and it was everything I ever dreamed it would be! This had to of been right before that. Loved the Earthquake ride, Kongfrontation and the Beetlejuice show!
Last time I was at Universal, I found the store where the old entrance to Terminator 3D was and almost cried. It may not have existed yet at this particular time, but I truly miss old Universal. My family enjoyed ET the most in 2019, making me feel bad my stepdaughter missed the OG rides.
I'm with you there missing the old OG rides, they were the best! and thank goodness we still have E.T, Great to hear your family enjoyed the last opening day attraction
I never been to Universal Studios. I hope one day I can take myself and family for vacation. I have been looking at these videos, how Universal Studios use to be and comparing them to what they are now..the older rides looked better. You 90s kids had it good. I wish I could have got on the King Kong ride from back in the day, it was more realistic as of today it is just digital. Universal studios need to bring the old rides back!
As someone who first visited (from Ireland) in 1996 (and who now lives in Tampa and still visits Universal regularly), the removal of "Jaws: The Ride" is one of the worst decisions made across the board by any of the theme park operators in Orlando. The main Universal Studios park right now is pretty wretched, and is going through an identity crisis similar to that of MGM about 10 years ago. No signs of it being sorted out either, not with the proper third gate on the horizon. The listless replacement of "Back to the Future" with "The Simpsons" was another warning sign of backsliding. I'm not beholden to classic attractions, but replacing them with worse is a cardinal sin. I feel as if the park peaked in the mid-to-late 90s, despite how impressive Diagon Alley is. Worrying times ahead for this original gate.
Jaws to me was the ULTIMATE Universal Studios Ride, I loved that attraction so much & was very disappointed when they announced they were closing the ride, But the Harry Potter replacement is also a fantastic addition to the park, just a shame there wasn't more land available to have added Harry Potter & Jaws could have been kept, & also the replacement of Back to the Future with the Simpsons again was a huge disappointment for me, I'm a HUGE fan of the movie :-(
Mels Drive in was my first job i ever worked back in 96. I miss these times so much. It hurts sometimes to go back and watch these vids lol... I am still waiting one day to see myself as a worker on someones home video. Worked here in 96. Sea World in 97 and Disney is 98. Made my rounds.
Universal Studios was so vibrant and full of life 😮 then. It gets more and more dull as they remove roaming characters and replace rides with screen based simulators

Tiffany, I totally understand what you are saying, The parks now are very different to how they were in the 90s
I totally get this! The times have changed so much
It’s because they got rid of practical effects! They used to use real fire and prop pieces…. Now it’s all just screens. I hate it. Also the movie IPs kinda stink now but that’s just the times. I miss the Beetlejuice show 😭
Yeah, it was special. It was old school.
Maybe it’s us that’s changed. Grown up? 🤷🏻♂️ …………..nah the parks aren’t as good as the Ghostbusting Jaws days!
I miss this park. My first time here was at 3. Then I went back in 95 at age 5 and every other year after until I was 14. I just came back from Orlando and I’m shocked by how much it changed. I stayed in Florida 1997. i was 23 on my first trip to the USA, it were trully magical times. That feelings never came back, sadly.
Thank you so much for recording this! I’ve lived in Orlando since 92 and all of this is matching with the memories of my Universal Studio experience when I was a kid. Loving seeing this, good stuff.
Great to hear that Clayton, Thanks for watching
The first time I ever went to universal Orlando was in July 1995. It was so cool back then.

You can still ride jaws at Universal Japan

My family and I walked past all those replicas in the 90s. I'm so glad there's video.

It was a great time to visit especially seeing the original & best version (in my mind) of the Park
I kind of wish they still did that tram tour. The show in the middle lagoon would be cool to bring back too.
I was only like 5 or 6 years old when I went to universal studios with my parents after their honeymoon there man good time's.
Save this footage forever!! I went in 98 to the Nickelodeon studios and it was everything I ever dreamed it would be! This had to of been right before that. Loved the Earthquake ride, Kongfrontation and the Beetlejuice show!

Very true Natasha
Wow, the homage to Edward Scissorhands is really cool.

That was cool to see that older film.
AnimationPrincess Great to hear that, Thanks for watching
I have a ton of videos from the 90s. Bit embarrassing looking back at myself as a young teenager tho 😅
