    In the late afternoon, a fire just west of Sanford, TX began to intensify with the large amounts of dead, fine fuels all over. An evacuation order was given for the town of Sanford, TX. Local, state, and federal firefighting resources converged on the area with multiple apparatus, including aerial support. Firefighters conducted a back burn op at the dam to clear fuel between there and the west front of the fire.

    Thank you for following this, Brett. I'm following it on line, I have family and friends in Amarillo, Borger, and Fritch, along with Perryton. This has been nerve wracking. Praying it's over soon and with minimum loss of lives and homes/barns/equipment. Glad to see the air tankers dropping retardant on it.

    Lived here for healthcare work for 5+ years. I now live elsewhere for family health concerns. Place is a wind tunnel. Man was never meant to tame that land. Just be awe struck by its beauty and work with it. Praying and sending help to 6 friends I know lost something over there.

      I'll add to those prayers. Born and raised in Amarillo for 34 years, now in Houston. I have family and friends still up there all over the panhandle. So far everyone's safe, but I know the losses and how hard it is going to be to rebuild.

    I sure hope they know what they are doing in all that wind.
    I understand that a back burn will take away potential fuel for the wildfire. I just really hope the "controlled burn" doesn't get out of control in all that wind. Seems super risky.

      Hey there! Very well staffed back burn op! At least 10 brush trucks were solely dedicated to the operation. We were also concerned, but they managed it great, with no spot fires.

      You can blame the evil Democrats and corrupt government for that. If governments would simply respect the people and tell us the truth, there would be far less fuel to encourage the conspiracy theories. Of course the corrupt government is guilty, of something. Let's try to be a bit more clear just what the corrupt government is guilty of. Perhaps not everything bad that happens. Maybe a bit less than that.

    • @charlayned
      @charlayned 6 місяців тому +11

      Care? Because your beef, bread, sugar, and soy prices are going to go up for the foreseeable future. People and cattle have died, people lost homes, barns, farm equipment, horses, tack, and their grasslands/fields. This is an economic nightmare, along with the loss of life. As for windmills, power lines or train wheel sparks could be it, or a careless burn barrel (for trash) or cigarette flipped out a window. And, the winds are always high up there, I grew up there and a normal nice day is 10-15 mph, gusts to 20-25. After that it's a windy day. 10% humidity right now, less than 15 inches of rain this last year. Drought conditions. It all adds up.

      Backburns do not intend to "put out" the fire, but rather to help contain it. Keep the fire more confined to nature where it more belongs.
      But I do wonder just how much backburning contributes to the statistics of how many acres burned. Since they have to burn back from firelines that they hopefully think will hold, to rob the growing fire of its fuel. In remote enough wilderness, backburning and firelines should not be necessary, since "control" of the fire is not needed. Maybe merely monitoring it for safety and educational reasons.

      He can start by taking down those wind turbines. Great idea at first till you realize that they have to be on brakes and feathered in winds greater than 35mph+. The area is traditionally a part of the Dust Bowl. Plus anyone whos driven by these on I-40, 207, etc. will note in wind gusts you still get pushed. That is because moment of inertia takes over and those thing can actually produce a sustained wind vs just cycling down with a gust. Smokehouse is suspected to be caused by a powerline.

      The best thing you can do is deal with climate change. This area has been in draught for ten years. Drought, dry brush and wind is the recipe for fire. I personally had to evacuate my home 3 times because of fires in Colorado. Wind is the most frightening thing when things are as dry as they are. Most fires are caused by a spark from a power line. It's only going to get worse. Weather patterns have changed and we need to change our behavior in return. Texas can't escape the fate of climate change. Your state is a tinder box waiting to ignite. You can thank your hundred plus temperatures. At least in Colorado we have red flag days where nothing is permitted to be burned. People know they can't throw a cigarette butt out of their window because it can ignite a fire when conditions are ripe. Your fire has burnt over a million acres. Even in Colorado, none of our fires burnt that much area at one time. Your state needs to take better care of its land

    • @LoriL010
      @LoriL010 6 місяців тому

      @@annebartells777 We have red flag days in Texas too. How absurb to think we don't. And isn't there a wildfire burning in Colorado right now too? Are you not keeping up with your own state news??? 1K acres burned with zero containment. Colorado reports an average of 5,618 wildfires each year, and approximately 237,500 acres burn annually. Maybe lecture your own state instead of focusing on Texas.
