I love your tips. These are some of my own tips (4 years on and living in US). 1. Use olive oil as your main oil. Not that I won't use butter (but I sub out most of it with extra virgin olive oil--in the US California Olive Ranch is reliable and available). 2. Eat one less "red meat meal" than you eat now and cut down the portions--3-4 ounces. Also salmon is a great "red meat sub" and really healthy. 3. Don't beat yourself up. Have a treat once in awhile and relax. This should be fun and the food is really delicious. 4. Add another serving or two of veggies--not starchy ones. Also roasted is wonderful and easy and tastes good. 5. Eat more whole grains. 6. if you do meal prep--make building blocks (a pot of grains or beans, a tray of roasted veggies, some healthy dressings or toppings). You are going to get bored with that meal that you decide you are going to eat for 5 days in a row.

Oh my‼️ With tears in my eyes I just looked up Mediterranean Recipes on You-tube and found you.😢 After being led astray by my PCP and her many PA’s, I found an Integrative Wellness MD who changed course and extended a much better practice in functional medicine. Now for first time in very long time I am having hope for living healthy at age 78. While living with bronchiectasis and shingles that wont stop - thinking surely I can be healthier and feel better. My new doctor wants me on Med diet along with Intermittent Fasting. I also need to lose 40-50 pounds. You will be my new guide (after 3 weeks of guessing and pasta 🤷🏻♀️!!). Another 👍for a meal prep video. I always learn something and get new ideas from them. Now a general question: do folks in the Mediterranean area tend to have their main meal at midday or evening? I’m reaching the point where I tend to feel better with a smaller meal in the early evening (my son calls it my senior special😂) and larger meals morning and midday. Just curious how the rest of the world does it. 😊 Thanks for all you do for us.
Hi Linda - and yep, I’m working on a meal prep video but it is infinitely more time consuming and thought requiring to make it happen. I promise at the beginning of the new year you can count on it! As far as meal times go, here in Spain, lunch (around 2pm) is by far the main meal and dinner (if at all after 8 and usually around 10pm) is a little plate/s…maybe scrambled eggs, a little piece of fish, some vegetables. George and I usualy have a little something before 8pm because we feel like you do. When she reached a certain age (ahem), my oldest sister started to call it “linner”. We just call it the normal eating pattern here. But… I will also say that Spaniards, in paritcular, not necessarily the rest of the Med, eat small meals many times during the day. Desayuno (breakfast around 7-8am), almuerza (mid-morning break at 10:10:30), lunch at 2, merienda (or tea and cookies time around 5pm), tapas after work 6-8 and dinner 9-10. Restaurants open for lunch at 2 (but sometimes at 1pm for tourists) and open for dinner at 8pm for tourists also. This is probably far more information than you wanted, but all this is to say, late lunch is the main meal by far…and then of course it’s time for a short siesta…the Spanish word that George mastered first! 😁

Accidentally viewed your video from a year ago to this one & it caught my attention. Then I found this current one & find it hard to believe you have aged considerably!🤯🤯🤯 What a stark difference!🤯 You had more of a healthy weight a year ago prior to this current one. You are such a beautiful lady! What happened in just a year's time???🤯🤯🤯 The Mediterranean diet did this or, are there other health related issues at play??? 🤔🤔 Seriously, the contrast (just in a year) is undeniably noticeable.🤯
HI Y - It is very thoughful of you to be concerned for my health. First things first, I can report (actually, just had my annual physical a few weeks ago) that I am in very good health. Like lots of others, I put on weight during Covid, no exercise and eating more than normal but I’m back on my track with lots of walking and it has helped me get back to my “set point” weight.. I’ve been eating this healthy way for more than 10 years so no change there, but maybe I should give some thought to getting a facial which I haven’t had since early 2019 or going back to using that “beauty light” ring that was the lighting difference between the old one and the new one! Since I began the Med. Diet a few days ago (after having done so a year ago but went back to the American way) I found that I have an awful lot of products in my pantry that are going to be pulled out and sent to a food pantry. Sad that I spent hard-earned money on those processed products, but I refuse to eat them ever again. I'm so thankful I found you several days ago. The Med. Diet food is so delicious! Thank you for all you do.

Today is the day that my family and I will no longer will eat unhealthy food. We don’t eat out, but the chips and packaged foods need to go out the door. Our 12 year old daughter has always since she was little loved foods that are in the Mediterranean dishes. Our child has been telling us without saying anything, but enjoying food that is in the Mediterranean dishes. It’s time for my husband & I to cook Mediterranean. Not only that, but to show our daughter how to cook the food that she enjoys as well. Thank you for having your videos you make it simple and not overwhelming 🙏🏽💜🥰

Hi Sally Jean - Nice to hear from you again! Yes, I mix up my own although sometimes I’ve found good mixes at the market. I like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds, I even throw in quinoa sometimes too. I try for an even blend of them all, but sometimes, if I find good prices for one type of seed or another, the mix will get a bit heavy in that. Probably best to try a pre-made mix to start and see what you like so you don’t spend money on one that you find you don’t like. Hope this helps! Cheers, Caroline
I just received my 30 Day Kick Start Plan book. I noticed that in the nuts and seeds category, flax seeds are missing. Is there a reason for that? I have been adding it to my meals, they are very filling. Are these not allowed? Thank you. Love your videos!

Hi again Kayla! We eat white meat maybe 2x month but everybody's habits are a bit different. We just found that the more healthy ingredients we used, the less we thought about meat. And actually, I rarely ever buy it, never red meat, occasionally pork and chicken but not much. It wasn't a conscious decision, it just gradually stopped being something we enjoyed and we don't miss it...too many other great options. It probably helps that we love fish and shellfish! Absolutely, just not much of it and not often. Try thinking of meat as a side dish and vegetables as the main. So you can enjoy meat a couple times a month instead of a couple times a week. Start to think about your best sources of protein from beans, legumes and fish first and eggs, poultry, dairy next, then finally red meat. You’ll save a lot of money that was too! Beans and legumes are much less expensive and much higher in nutrients. Hope this helps. I’ll be coming out with another video at the start of the year about getting started with this diet and also have a few other videos on the channel that go into a little more detail too if you are interested. Hi Patricia - I agree most meal prep videos don't make sense to me either. That's why I take a different approach, with fewer dishes for fewer days, just enough to make it easier to eat well every day. You might like checking out the handful of videos I have for meal prep and see if it works for you... or stick to fresh, you're right, always best when you have the time and energy to do it! Another 👍for a meal prep video. I always learn something and get new ideas from them. Now a general question: do folks in the Mediterranean area tend to have their main meal at midday or evening? I’m reaching the point where I tend to feel better with a smaller meal in the early evening (my son calls it my senior special😂) and larger meals morning and midday. Just curious how the rest of the world does it. 😊 Thanks for all you do for us.
Hi Linda - and yep, I’m working on a meal prep video but it is infinitely more time consuming and thought requiring to make it happen. I promise at the beginning of the new year you can count on it! As far as meal times go, here in Spain, lunch (around 2pm) is by far the main meal and dinner (if at all after 8 and usually around 10pm) is a little plate/s…maybe scrambled eggs, a little piece of fish, some vegetables. George and I usualy have a little something before 8pm because we feel like you do. When she reached a certain age (ahem), my oldest sister started to call it “linner”. We just call it the normal eating pattern here. But… I will also say that Spaniards, in paritcular, not necessarily the rest of the Med, eat small meals many times during the day. Desayuno (breakfast around 7-8am), almuerza (mid-morning break at 10:10:30), lunch at 2, merienda (or tea and cookies time around 5pm), tapas after work 6-8 and dinner 9-10. Restaurants open for lunch at 2 (but sometimes at 1pm for tourists) and open for dinner at 8pm for tourists also. This is probably far more information than you wanted, but all this is to say, late lunch is the main meal by far…and then of course it’s time for a short siesta…the Spanish word that George mastered first! 😁

Accidentally viewed your video from a year ago to this one & it caught my attention. Then I found this current one & find it hard to believe you have aged considerably!🤯🤯🤯 What a stark difference!🤯 You had more of a healthy weight a year ago prior to this current one. You are such a beautiful lady! What happened in just a year's time???🤯🤯🤯 The Mediterranean diet did this or, are there other health related issues at play??? 🤔🤔 Seriously, the contrast (just in a year) is undeniably noticeable.🤯
HI Y - It is very thoughful of you to be concerned for my health. First things first, I can report (actually, just had my annual physical a few weeks ago) that I am in very good health. Like lots of others, I put on weight during Covid, no exercise and eating more than normal but I’m back on my track with lots of walking and it has helped me get back to my “set point” weight.. I’ve been eating this healthy way for more than 10 years so no change there, but maybe I should give some thought to getting a facial which I haven’t had since early 2019 or going back to using that “beauty light” ring that was the lighting difference between the old one and the new one! Since I began the Med. Diet a few days ago (after having done so a year ago but went back to the American way) I found that I have an awful lot of products in my pantry that are going to be pulled out and sent to a food pantry. Sad that I spent hard-earned money on those processed products, but I refuse to eat them ever again. I'm so thankful I found you several days ago. The Med. Diet food is so delicious! Today is the day that my family and I will no longer will eat unhealthy food. We don’t eat out, but the chips and packaged foods need to go out the door. Our 12 year old daughter has always since she was little loved foods that are in the Mediterranean dishes. Our child has been telling us without saying anything, but enjoying food that is in the Mediterranean dishes. It’s time for my husband & I to cook Mediterranean. Not only that, but to show our daughter how to cook the food that she enjoys as well. Thank you for having your videos you make it simple and not overwhelming 🙏🏽💜🥰

Hi Sally Jean - Nice to hear from you again! Yes, I mix up my own although sometimes I’ve found good mixes at the market. I like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds, I even throw in quinoa sometimes too. I try for an even blend of them all, but sometimes, if I find good prices for one type of seed or another, the mix will get a bit heavy in that. Probably best to try a pre-made mix to start and see what you like so you don’t spend money on one that you find you don’t like. Hope this helps! Cheers, Caroline

How often can you eat meat??
Hi again Kayla! We eat white meat maybe 2x month but everybody's habits are a bit different. We just found that the more healthy ingredients we used, the less we thought about meat. And actually, I rarely ever buy it, never red meat, occasionally pork and chicken but not much. It wasn't a conscious decision, it just gradually stopped being something we enjoyed and we don't miss it...too many other great options. It probably helps that we love fish and shellfish! Is meat allowed on this diet?
Absolutely, just not much of it and not often. Try thinking of meat as a side dish and vegetables as the main. So you can enjoy meat a couple times a month instead of a couple times a week. Start to think about your best sources of protein from beans, legumes and fish first and eggs, poultry, dairy next, then finally red meat. You’ll save a lot of money that was too! Beans and legumes are much less expensive and much higher in nutrients. Hope this helps. I’ll be coming out with another video at the start of the year about getting started with this diet and also have a few other videos on the channel that go into a little more detail too if you are interested. Hi Patricia - I agree most meal prep videos don't make sense to me either. That's why I take a different approach, with fewer dishes for fewer days, just enough to make it easier to eat well every day. You might like checking out the handful of videos I have for meal prep and see if it works for you... or stick to fresh, you're right, always best when you have the time and energy to do it!
