Word of warning here! The manufactured front edge is slightly tapered / chamfered to get thinner as it reaches the forehead. I you cut into it, to remake a new hairline, you lose that tapering and it can leave a thicker, blunt edge that doesn't disappear as well into the scalp. If possible, try holding the blade at an angle when you cut, to replicate the original angle of the hairline.
Many African American women have great vidéos on how to work with wigs especially lace. I came across one that recommended boiling the piece to refresh it. You still had plenty of hair on that hairline..I have managed to get a year or longer out of each piece by being gentle during the clean up process. If getting residual tape out of the base means possibly tearing it, I just leave it on the base and often it will come off the next time it gets cleaned. Obviously I try to get it as clean as possible but leaving a dot of residual goo on it here and there is better than ruining it. Also alcohol to get the piece off the head and thén solvent to get the glue off the scalp is idéal. Solvent fries thé hair more than isopropyl alcohol and should only be used when too much adhésive is stuck in the hair
An idea of a topic you could cover is a work from home perspective, you do exercise and go out in the sun and all kinds of stuff. Not everyone does. So i just wanted to give a little insight into what i do. Basically what i do is a wavy fringe type cut (no exposed hairline), and this gives you tons of freedom. So I can just buzz the sides down to a 3 guard, and it looks legit. So i do this once a month. I don't sleep in my system, or shower with it, i hand wash it with baby shampoo every other week (unless i sweat in it), and i store it in a dark area in my closet in a ziplock bag with a template to keep it's shape. When i want to wear it and do errands, i put one piece of tape on it in the middle, as long as it's not windy, it doesn't move at all. If i'm going to be out 12+ hours in a day, then i'll lock it in 100% but i haven't been doing that much in the pandemic. If i want to go in the sun a lot i'll wear a hat and leave the system at home because that's what i'd do regardless, if i want to be in the sun where i don't want a hat i wear hair sun protection. This way just really works for me, stretching out the life of the unit, and it's super fast and easy.
Hi! My hair system started to have some hair going across the base. Some of them went actually into the other side of it. Wondering if there is a way to avoid or fix it. Somebody having the same problem? Thanks!
It may be worth trying to pluck the hairline a little, to take some of the heaviness out of it :) A good idea on the whole, and it's good that you're trying these things
Good video Jake. Only thing is that once you do this won't it not look completely natural at the front anymore as at the factory I believe they craft the hairline area in a special/graduated way?
I've used this technique before on French Lace. Lifting the hairline is not that critical because it can be moved forward where it sat before. Since the back lays down flat, it'll still offer good coverage in the back. Great advice!
Great video. When you buy a new poly unit doesn't it have like a thin1/8" or 1/16" perimeter in front with no hair attached? I guess what I am asking is after the new cut does the hair now go right to the edge of the hairline and is it ok? Also is having tape on your bio hair a royal mess when you take off and cleanup? lol....don't use permanent marker!
Hi jake... I'm from The United States and I used to wear a hair system... I went thru three different companies and unfortunately they all promised the same awesome results yet everytime I got a new system they were always some different problems with them.. Also had to sign a contract this was very depressing as they kept me in the dark about how everything worked... That is until I found a company in Lancaster pa called Hair Direct .. NO CONTRACTS ..They actually have a website that teaches ppl how to do everything yourself and they also send your hair to you by mail pre cut or not it's the customers choice... Jake check out this company online and share with your subscribers as this will help everyone ... God Bless you for helping ppl..
Hey jake, it' s nice what you do.. Keep on doing here.. Well, about how long a system lasts. I solved everything by using hair clipping.. A system will last forever.. Cause when u come back home u take it apart.. You know.. No more glue, no more pain.. Just a minute and ready to go.. 2 metal clips in the sides, one in the back.. I only tape the front hairline.. Believe me, it's such a good thing this way.. Of course when you cut the system, it, must be a little larger in size.. The clips needs hair underneath..therefore,,I don't cut it at all.. 😉
Been doing this for some time, but lace middle with poly around is better to do it on, because you can actually strech the lace in the middle, where full poly you can't really. Nice vid
Shoutout to Lavivid Hair for sponsoring this video!!

Great Tip Jake! Thank you!

Not all units have this graduation, but if it does, than yes. But if the front of your system is too thin, it doesn’t look right either.

Absolutely love my LaVivid system! Nothing like the old monofilament and clips. Pre 2000
We are so happy to hear that!❤
I can see the marker 😳
Haha yeah.. I forgot to wash it off. OOOPS!
I wonder if this can be done with a french lace unit. I love it when you use the non-existing word "lossage" 😂
Great tutorial. And I wanted to add, I thought your hair looked best just after you took off your baseball cap where it was loose over your forehead.

It does, but you don’t leave that attached. You take it off at the start

Hair direct been around for years.
Hiya Jake, great content as always and interesting idea. Quick Q, are the Lavivid hair systems made in China?
Hi Jake what kind of color depositing shampoo do you use?
Jake are you taping or gluing the front now
@Drew Cheney he's said in several videos that he uses only tape.

Cool 😎

I've seen StickonHair strech poly all the time
Yes, lace gets nice and taught. Poly does, but it’s always got more stretchiness.
Yeah the thinner polys just are more at risk of tearing when stretching and the thicker poly is less stretchy than the thin.
Wait cookies? What?
